Built out of necessity.

It's been said that necessity is the mother of invention. As such, it's only fitting that the city slickers at Chrome designed the Kharkiv for urban commuters seeking roomy storage and bombproof quality. Made to withstand crosstown commutes and the daily grind, this rugged pack features military-grade materials, such as weatherproof 1000D Cordura and truck-tarpaulin, for beefed-up quality and resistance to inclement weather.

And because comfortable carrying is key when you're riding through traffic-congested, pothole-ridden streets, the Kharkiv sports ergonomically designed shoulder straps and a plush EVA back-panel for evenly distributing heavy loads.

Its expandable outer compartment is ideal for tossing your cycling helmet, shoes, and extra layers, cinching tightly with Chrome's iconic mini buckles. The roomy main compartment features laptop and tablet sleeves, as well as a full organizer compartment to prevent contents front sloshing around. Moreover, you'll appreciate the elevated loft pocket, which safely holds your sunglasses, keys, or wallet within easy-access.

Awesome Chrome quality

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

As with pretty much every Chrome item I've owned through the years (including one of their early Kremlin XL messenger bags, now about 17 years old and still going strong), I love this bag. Perfect size as a daily commuter carry-all (laptop, tablet, lunch, folio). Also worked well paired with my Barrage Pro for traveling; compressed this one up nice and tight and used the Barrage Pro's cargo webbing to carry this bag, so I only had to "wear" one backpack, but with easy access to the laptop tablet for going through TSA security checks ... it also meant that I could use the small bag as my "personal item" and the larger bag as my carry-on for most flights, and on the rare occasion when I did need to gate check the Barrage, I didn't have to worry about my computer getting thrown around the cargo hold.

My only quibble is that the flap covering the top zipper is positioned in such a way that the bag is not completely waterproof, like the roll-top backpacks are ... at least not when walking around upright. In the riding position this is not going to be a problem. Minor quibble, if I could give it 4 1/2 stars I would, but just can't give it the full 5 stars.

The Perfect No-Thrills Bag

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Sturdy, thick, idiot-proof. What's more to love? This bag has everything I need in regards to functionality and strength. The helmet pocket is a bit tight but for good reason. Excited to take this thing with me on my morning commute until either me or the bag have to retire.

Rad Bag!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The quality of material and construction are apparent upon first inspection of the Kharkiv bag. I have been using the bag as my daily office/laptop transporter, which has been great. The laptop pocket holds my medium sized laptop firmly in place, while there are plenty of extra pockets to carry various items.

Besides my daily office bag, I have also used the Kharkiv on weekend trips to hold several changes of clothes, bike apparel and my bike shoes, which fit easily in the outside storage area.

The adjustable shoulder straps make for a nice snug fit that is comfortable on and off the bike. All in all, I love this pack and would recommend to close friends.
