X marks your spot.
CatEye continues to make some of the most reliable and visible lights in the business. So, when the company comes up with a totally new product, it's notable to riders everywhere. The new CatEye Rapid X Light is the latest and greatest, and it promises to outshine everything else that came before it.
The Rapid X Light crams a ton of great features and great ideas into a mere 22.5 grams. There are six different operation modes, the most conservative of which keeps the LEDs firing for up to 30 hours. When the battery gets too low to last much longer, it automatically switches to its most frugal flashing mode, keeping the torch lit and indicating to the rider that it's time to charge up again. Yes, the lithium polymer battery is fully rechargeable via USB and only takes two hours to do so. Engineers also focused heavily on the light's side profile, and the Rapid X's perpendicular visibility is perhaps the best of any light system on the road.
The CatEye Rapid X Light tool-less rubber band mount can accommodate tube diameters from 12mm to 32mm. It measures 74.2 x 24.4 x 30.8 millimeters, and comes in a white-light Front version and a red-light Rear version.

works well but newer version out there
There is now a rapid x2 that is 30.5 grams with 50 lumens for the same price on other sites. This one is only 25 lumens. I find it not adequate for daytime riding.
Install on on Seat Stay
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
I see many riders on my daily rides without lights I think the more visibility you provide to drivers the more chance you have of preventing either a close encounter, an accident or worse a fatality. Bikes with the proper lights installed also seem to get drivers attention. My experience is that drivers have a higher respect for those that are doing everything possible to be seen, thus the reason I am a big proponent of strong emitting lights on bikes.
So I have chosen a CatEye Volt 1200 Headlight on the handlebars (this light is so awesome and so important when you are passing by side streets at 30 mph). I have a CatEye Rapid X Light on each seat stay. They really illuminate/ You have a choice of various lighting modes so depending on your lighting requirement experiment. The mounting is so easy/simple and each charge provides hours of riding time. You can also purchase one for your seatpost but I would instead recommend purchasing a stronger emitting rear center light for the seat post.
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I got the front and rear set and I love this light!! super slick, clean looking, lightweight, easy to mount, no brackets or screws needed, usb charged.
If you want to be seen by drivers but don't want a heavy bulky light. this is the light for you!!
But keep in mind, if you are looking for a headlight to help you see at night, this may not be the light for you.
Great for early morning or evening rides!!
