Volo Bib Short

When you're looking for support to get you to the finish line, Castelli makes a good case for the Volo Bib Shorts. Cast as a top-tier workhorse of race shorts, the Volo Bibs are designed for flying down the road, with Affinity BLC textured fabric that elevates aerodynamics as you push to the front of the peloton.

The Volo Bib Shorts earn the Castelli name by continuing tradition of elite construction, but with a bit more of an affordable price. They combine a light mesh bib that breathes with ease with aerodynamic dimpled fabric through the front and outside of the thighs that help you cut through the air ahead. The inner thigh gives you the added benefits of Affinity Lycra for elevated stretch and rebound, so you can keep a snug fit while maintaining comfort. Flat lock stitching helps prevent chaffing on all-day epics, and clean raw edge hems make for both a smooth aesthetic and a slip-free grip.

Castelli employs the well-loved Kiss Air seat pad in the Volo, for all day comfort on the bike. The Kiss Air meets your skin with seamless brushed microfiber to eliminate chaffing, with just enough flexibility to move with you. It's cut anatomically for pressure reduction in your mist sensitive zones, and support where you need it the most. The multi-density foam tapers from 14-to-4-millimeters in thickness, placing more material where its needed, and omitting it where a streamlined fit is preferred. We'll do just about anything to avoid saddle sores, and while we don't know the science behind it, Castelli claims that the bacteriostatic treatment on the chamois helps fight saddle sores and infections — a bold claim, but if it means a sore-free ride we're eager to put down some miles.

  • A workhorse race short for soaring through the peloton
  • Affinity textured fabric elevates aerodynamics
  • Just enough contouring stretch from Affinity Lycra panels
  • Mesh bib allows your skin to breathe while you ride
  • Wicking fabrics aid moisture transfer to keep cool
  • Avoid chaffing with flat-lock stitching throughout
  • Kiss Air seat pad is ideal for all-day comfort

How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Chest:
Measure under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
Waist:
Measure around your natural waistline, keeping the tape a bit loose.
Hip:
Measure around the fullest part of your body at the top of your legs.
Inseam:
Using pants that fit well, measure the crotch seam to the bottom of the leg.

Not Castelli's best chamois

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I have a couple of Castellis, and love them, but this one is not quite their best bib short. The chamois has 2 parts, but the thin part gets too think too quick, so when you wear them you can feel the border between the 2 layers. It's not too bad, there is no problem when riding, but it's just not their best chamois. The rest is fine, fits great, the legs stay in their place and overall a good pair of bibs. I'm 173cm and 80Kg, I got a size L, which you could maybe think of as it running small, but that's only when compared to other brands (I usually get size M) but in reality it's true to their size chart, so trust their size chart.

I own both the short and the bib version of the Volo series. They definitely run small as compared to, say, Pearl Izumi (I take size M in everything from Pearl Izumi, but so far I need a size L in everything from Castelli). That said, I like them very much. They're light, they fit like a second skin, they breathe well, and the seat pad does its job on a long ride. I'd go five stars, but the jury is out on durability. We'll have to wait and see on that one. Oh - and as for the straps, they seemed a bit tight standing up, but in a crouch, they're just fine.

Best Bibs I've Worn Yet

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Fantastic bit of kit. I've gone through several different sets of bibs and these fit the most comfortably, feel the best, and perform the best out of any yet. The fabric has yet to loosen or stretch out, it wicks away the sweat and stays dry, the pad is extremely comfortable, there are no spots which pinch or rub. Very good for hot days but still wearable on cold ones too, as long as you have a good jacket. I wore these riding a century which started at 40dF in the morning and peaked at 90dF and these were fantastic. I'm approaching 1000 miles in these so far and have 0 complaints. (6'4", 235lbs, wearing XXL)

Excellent bib for warm days

I have been using Pearl Izumi (Select and Elite) bibs for a while as well as other local brands and the Castelli's Volo excelled all of them by far. Its breathability is superb and the chamois size is just right for my rides, which range from 80-120 km. Having said that, it became my favorite bib for warm days (temperature higher than 25C). Despite that, I would avoid using it for XC. The mesh cloth on the legs doesn’t seem to be much resistant to abrasion and scratches. I am 165 cm tall and weight 61 kg and small fitted as expected.

These are the only bibs I will buy anymore. This is my second pair and they are both great. Good compression and length but most importantly the KISS AIR Chamois is amazing. Have used these on multiple rides of over 5 hours with no complaints or comfort issues.

How is the length of these shorts? You being the tallest person to review these, i feel like you would have the best perspective. I am 6'1" with a long inseam and I dont like bibs that only go to half thigh. Thanks.

l'm 5'7" 60years old and in the last 3 years l've gone from 280 lbs to 195lbs. at 60 the skin don't bounce back, l've got skin than hangs like a gut. finding a bib short that fits is not easy. l tried Pearl Izumi P.R.O. escape and pursuit in large and medium. no luck. l tried a couple cheaper suits, no luck. the Castelli Volo is perfect. l have 4 pair, l live in Fla Panhandle and l ride everyday and have no problems at all. l wish l had a biker's bod but that's just not happening
