Everyday aero.

When you want the benefits of an aerodynamic jersey, without the full-blown speedsuit look, the Castelli Volata Full-Zip Jersey is the perfect blend of aerodynamic fit and comfort.

Using some of the fabrics and construction techniques from the Aero Race Jersey project, Castelli has created a more tempered, yet equally stunning jersey. Castelli placed Velocity Dry fabric on the main panels of the jersey and cut the panels according to the same panel design as the Aero Race jerseys, which are cut for Pro Tour riders. Stretch mesh panels have been placed at the sides and shoulders to allow for optimal flexibility and movement in the cycling position. Both fabrics help to keep you cool and dry by wicking moisture away from your skin to the surface where it evaporates.

The jersey is cut with a form fit. Along these lines, rather than using elastic at the arm bands, stretch mesh with a raw edge is used. This eliminates pinching and the "bump" from elastics. The collar is cut low so that drag is minimized, and three back pockets and one additional zippered pocket hold all of your riding essentials.

The Castelli Volata Full-Zip Jersey - Short Sleeve - Men's is available in sizes Small to XXX-Large and in the colors White/black, Drive Blue/black/red, and Black/yellow fluo.

Bad waistband in Back

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I ordered it for the great price, updated sleeve length and good looks. However the waistband in back is similar to one found on underwear. It is really stiff and therefore causes the pockets to appear saggy as others have noted when phones or even small items are placed in the pockets. I returned it - should have listened. The CC guys are always SUPER to work with and we found a replacement product. Good jersey if you can get by with most things in your saddle bag.

Runs small - a bit saggy in the front

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

I always go 1 or 2 sizes up when choosing Castelli jerseys. My built: 5'9'' 160 lbs, ~102'' around the chest. Compared to the Castelli Entrata 2 Jersey (I have the XL one), this Volata is not living up to my expectations quite frankly: I bought the Large Red/White/Black model and it still feels small in the bottom front end when I stretch out my arms, the texture of the fabric feels different (I like Entrata's better, more breathable feeling). Around my chest and arms it feels properly snug but, around the belly area, it's a bit too saggy. When fully zippered and standing still with my arms on the sides, there are some visible lumps in the front area (and no, I don't pack a beer belly lol). All in all, I like the color pattern with the little Italy flag on the back. I also like the back zippered pocket which is placed in the middle pocket. I'm still gonna keep it.

Loose waist, sagging rear pockets

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I was a little concerned when I tried on the jersey because the waist seemed like it lacked grip. When I put a phone and a water bottle in the back pockets the jersey dropped way down in the back, just falling and stretching under the weight of the phone and water bottle. I've used Castelli, Sugoi, and Craft jerseys and I regularly carry phone, bottle, and snacks in the back pockets. While some develop saggy back pockets as material stretches none started off this bad. I would not buy this jersey again.

Saggy pockets

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I bought this jersey for my husband as a surprise. I expect high quality from Castelli, but the design/material on the back pockets make it look ridiculous when carrying even only an iPhone. He won't use it for longer rides, when more gels or other nutrition is needed. The pockets sag to his rear! I see it when I ride behind him. I wish I had read these reviews before purchasing. Other than this issue, he loves the feel of the jersey, especially on hot days. Unfortunate design on the pockets, however.

I like it.

Okay but...

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Large

After behaving for several years on odd sizing, Castelli have back-slide a bit with this one. Nice fabric and visual design yet the waist and pockets sag when loaded particularly with a vest or light rain jacket. Keeping it but will only load pockets lightly if at all.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I've had 2 rides and about 60 miles with this jersey.

Things I like: Best fit ever- no ruffling on the belly while in the drops, great room for muscular shoulders/chest/arms, but still slim in the waist. Best fabric ever- super breathable and lightweight.

Can't report on durability yet but so far so good!

(Edit: The pockets do sag if you load them up, a solution is to spread out the weight between pockets...but this jersey isn't for you if you carry more than just the basic cell phone, credit card, and energy bar in jersey pockets.)

Almost Perfect

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

When I tried this jersey on I felt as if it was custom tailored for me. I am 5' 8" 150lbs and purchased a small. Fortunately I recalled other reviewers complaining about the pockets so I loaded my usual snacks and phone. The stretchy fabric that makes the jersey feel like a custom fit unfortunately is not suitable for making pockets because my meager load dragged the pockets far below the hem of the jersey. I have jerseys from nearly every brand and I've never seen anything like this. Its a bummer because I thought I finally found the perfect jersey.

Interesting fabric

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: xl

I think the issues mentioned by other reviewers isnt caused by the cut of the jersey but rather by the type of fabric used. This jersey seems to be made of a softer and thinner fabric than most of the other Castelli jerseys I have. Its not a bad fabric but it seems to be less supportive so if you load up the pockets the fabric gives and the end result is a saggy pocket. If you can live with that limitation I think this is a nice jersey.

Phits iPhone 6+ in pockets

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Med

Haven't worn this riding yet, but fits the same as my other riding jerseys. Not too fitted, but fits. Has a zippered back pocket and the back pockets just fit my iPhone 6+. Compared to my other jerseys, I think I would wear this in temps from 60-70s.

Also returned this jersey...

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size

Should have listened to the other reviewer who also returned this jersey. I really wanted to like this jersey but the fit definitely wasn't on point. The material of the jersey was nice and the sleeves had a raglan style meaning they wouldn't ride up when you're in the riding position. But the big problem I had was that jersey was form fitting until you got down to the waistband. Not only was it looser than the other two Castelli jersey's I have at a similar price point, there was also too much material on the pockets meaning sag galore. If you don't put anything in your pockets this may not be a problem, but when you put things such as a c02 canister or a phone in the back pockets they sag way more than normal. For reference I'm about 5'8" 150 muscular build and wear medium in all castelli jersey's. Like the other reviewer said, I'd pass on this one.

Completely agree. Pockets sag like crazy. Unfortunately I've worn this several times riding, so I'm stuck with it.

Returned this jersey....

After reading other reviews and the jersey description I was expecting a lightweight, breathable jersey with a nice aero cut. I wear a size small in Castelli and am 5'8" 128lbs. The fit of the jersey was strange - the arms are tight and nice but the jersey gets wider/looser toward the waistband so the appearance is sloppy. The fabric itself is noticeably hotter than my Castelli Aero Race jersey to the point that I couldn't stand riding in it. I was sweaty without even doing much on a mild day. I would pass on this one if I were you.

    Very nice warm weather jersey!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

At 5'8" with 39.5" chest and 32" waist the Large was my size according the chart. The fit is snug but not as fitting as I had hoped, especially in the mid/lower section; both these section had some looseness. The chest and upper arms were snug. The sleeves are a bit longer than most which is a good point and provides not only a good feel but a great racing look as well. As I mentioned the jersey is snug but not as form fitting as advertized, at least for me. Because the lower part of the jersey was not as snug the three rear pockets can't carry but only the bare essentials as you will have flapping and bouncing, especially on choppy roads at speed. The material is very light and sees thru especially with the white variant. The material though does serve its purpose which is to be aero and moisture wicking in warm to hot weather. Zippper, as with all Castelli jersey so far have worked well. Easy to lower and zip up with a single hand. Solid jersey but wasn't as fitting as I expected. UPDATE: I returned see-thru white large white for black medium and happy with all over fit and comfort. See pic for fit.

    Very nice warm weather jersey!

UPDATE: Ordered the medium in black and the fit is now form fit! Since I’m just 5’8” the rear pockets now don’t hang and bounce around like with the large jersey. The fit around my waist is now form-fit as well, not tight at all, just fitting. The top looks tight, but it is not and both arms and chest fit are now more aero looking without excess material. Rating will go from 3 to 4. After a season I will revisit and take into account durability as weather/riding attributes I already reviewed and liked.

    This is it!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I own about 5 castelli jersey and this is my favorite. You get a true race fit with this jersey! Being 6' 165lbs, large always is my size in castelli. I was a bit Leary the Volata would not be as tight as I wanted but it didn't disappoint like the Castelli Climbers jersey. I would have though a jersey such as the Mountain would be race cut. While the upper chest and arms of the mountain jersey are snugg, there is way too much material in the mid section. A big disappointment for a jersey of that caliber. Bottom line this is a superb everyday race cut jersey. I also really like the fit of castellis Fuga jersey as well as the Classica. Both fit snugg, Fuga and Volata about the same, Classica a hair less tight, all great jerseys.
