Description

Minimize restriction, maximize comfort.

The Velocissima Shorts bring the world of Castelli-grade endurance comfort to a bib-free, women's-specific design. We can't speak for every cycling group, but many of us contend that restrictive bibs are a men-specific design, ill-suited to a woman's body, so kit like the Velocissimas have become a common site on our multiple-hour weekend rides.

The Velocissima's main fabric, Endurance Evolution, is the heart of the shorts' straightforward functionality. This is the same material used in Castelli's long-distance men's shorts, the Endurances, and it provides the same compressive support and effective moisture management. Staying dry is a nice benefit on a long ride, but the shorts' real strength is the compression, which reduces the fatiguing effects of road noise and muscle oscillation so your legs stay fresh beyond the 60, 80, or 100 mile mark. The Velocissima shorts are also finished off with the same Giro 3 leg grippers as the Endurances, which omit the pinching elastic more commonly used in favor of a wide, gripping band.

The Velocissima Shorts addresses the fit issues that often plaque bib-free shorts with flat-form waist paneling, which comfortably compresses above the waistline without any abrading stitching or pinching elastic. The KISS4 Air Donna chamois brings up the rear, incorporating women's-specific padding strategically laid-out to relieve pressure. The shorts are finished with reflective elements to help keep you visible in low-light conditions.

Great shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Medium

Fit well and pretty comfortable for rides in the 50 mi range. They do run quite snug though, as does as all Castelli. Washed about 10+ times so far and are in good shape.

Women's Velocissima Shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Medium

After reading reviews how Castelli apparel runs small, I consulted the size chart and fell squarely in the small range. To be safe I ordered both a pair of smalls and medium. I am 5 ft, 3 inches tall and weigh 102 lbs. The smalls should have been perfect but I could hardly get them pulled up. I kept the mediums and sent back the smalls. The mediums are quite comfortable, my only complaint is that the leg bands flare out. The flaring makes the shorts look a little silly. Because of this I am not 100% happy with them. I don't know if other Castelli shorts do this. I would hope not.

Good looking...not so comfy.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

First off...I LOVE castelli!
Bought this product knowing they ran small. The look of the short were too good to pass up. I would normally take a small, possibly a medium to be on the safe side but I had to have a large with these and they are pretty darn snug. The padding really does it's job and if you don't have to be standing around in the shorts all day then they're a good pair of riding shorts.

Yuck!

  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Med

In general, I am a pretty big Castelli fan. But these shorts totally missed the mark. I tried them on and instantly disliked them. The fabric lacked uniform stretch. The stitching was binding in the wrong areas and the waistband was way too high. I would say they run a FULL size too small. Just can't find anything to like about them.

AWESOME SHORT

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

These shorts are incredible. I wore them on an 8 day 500+mile bike tour of England and they didn't disappoint. The stay put leg bands really work without feeling sticky and the high cut back gives perfect coverage. I even had a wreck and tore myself up a bit, see pictures, and the shorts barely scuffed. Following reviews of them running small, I bought the large where I'm usually a medium. I'm 5'5" 147 lbs, with a booty, and the size large fits perfectly. 10/10 would recommend.

100-mile challenge *success*

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

After going through a few different "others", I pulled on these shorts. Where others failed between mile 40 and 60 (3-5 hrs), these passed with flying colors! As I built miles from 60-100 (5-8 hrs in the saddle) I hardly noticed a change in the feel of these shorts. No irritation from seams or design, and no bruising from the saddle. *note* I sized up - I'm about 35-28-38 (thick thighs) and had to exchange for a large.

Wife loves her shorts

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

Gave these shorts to wife. She loves them. Color, waist (bibs are nice, but shorts are more convienent), fit. She wants more.

Run way small and are see-through!

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Medium

The sizing runs way too small and the shorts were also see-through!

Nice but may want to size up

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Small

I love these shorts! Very comfortable on long rides (100 miles). Provide just the right amount of support. I would buy them again. Originally ordered an XS, but returned for a S.

Runs small

  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Medium

These are really nice shorts, but they run small. I'm 5'6, 125 lbs. Would need a large.

Very nice- but shorts run very small

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Medium

I am a pretty solid medium (sometimes even small) in womens cycling clothing but these shorts run super small. I would size up at least 1 size. I could barely pull the medium on so they will be returned.

Love but sizing is small

  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: S & M

I'm 5'5", 115 lbs, hips measure 35" and I ordered the small, which was plenty snug putting them on the first time. After several wears, they've stretched out just a bit but fabric is compressive by design without a lot of give. Once on the bike, they are by far the most comfortable shorts / chamois I've worn for longer (50 mile) rides. The chamois works great for me with hardly a wiggle to reposition myself. I would suggest sizing up one size. I love them and am buying a second pair, but will purchase the medium.

Nice quality shorts, sizing is small

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Small

These are nice quality shorts, and the padding seems like it would be quite nice and breathable. Unfortunately they were too small for me. I normally wear a size small in cycling shorts, which is what I ordered, but I could just barely even get these on. I liked them them enough that I think I may try a size medium.

I had the same problem. But the medium is too big in the legs.. I don't like the new material they are using, there is zero stretch.

Not Bad

  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Med

I love Castelli products but these shorts were a little snug. I was able to stretch them once I put them on. I am 5/7" 125 lbs and a medium was snug. Quality is always good with Castelli and they do look good on.

can anyone help with sizing? I know Castelli runs super small, just wondering if I go by the size chart if they will be too small??

they do run one size smaller than measurements shown. order a size bigger than your norm.

Nice short

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I liked very much this short, the only comment I have is that the one I order has a pink line in the legs, and the oone I recived didn't.
Has some pink lines on the back.
So it was different to the one in the order.

Are the seams flat between the chamois and the short interface?
