Toe Thingy 2

Give your toes a little relief from icy winds without the hassle of full blown shoe covers in the Castelli Toe Thingy 2. Much like their predecessors, these handy covers slide neatly over your toes, securing around your cleat with a rubberized fabric for surefooted grip, without the excessive warmth of booties that leaves you with a case of hot-foot. Instead of giving full foot insulation, the Toe Thingy 2 gives coverage just where its needed, providing a nice barrier between your little piggies and the cold, whipping wind outside.

Castelli's Toe Thingy is made from durable neoprene fabric. This material not only provides insulating warmth, but it also blocks water and wind on the most sensitive part of the foot—the toes. The Toe Thingy is secured to the shoe by an aperture that encompasses the cleat, and to resist rips, tears, and general wear, Castelli included a silicone print on the Toe Thingy's underside. For versatility, Castelli recommends using the cover alone on mild days, and as a layer between your shoe and full shoe cover during nasty weather.

Useless!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

One wonders whether Castelli ever tried these in the real world before selling them. They fit poorly, gaping and bunching around the toe. Mine developed a hole in the toe on Ride #1 and then eventually tore behind the cleat. Poorly designed, poorly executed.

I've had these toe warmers for about 6 weeks, worn them about 24 times. They are perfect when it comes to keeping my feet warm without overheating them like a full booty sometimes can. However, the bottom tears fairly quickly. I had to patch them up already - see photos. They will definitely last the season, hopefully two.

Improved fit over the previous version. However, the bottom wore through on the very first ride. I recognize that this is a hard product to make last, but it needs to survive a season to be worth the $$.

Improved over older version

I really liked the older version of these, and finally had to replace them after a few years. I don't need them that often - I typically use them from about 38-48 degrees, altering my socks to fine tune. Compared to the older version, these seem more reinforced on the bottom, but you are going to wear through them eventually from putting your foot down and up (especially near the top underneath). Unless you never put your foot down, and I say good on you for that! BUT - these have a little tweak from the older version in logo placement. Now there is not a right foot/left foot thingy - they are interchangeable. When you start to wear out your down foot side, just switch it to the other side and you have a nice new, unworn one on your down foot. They are super easy to take on and off. Nice improvement to a staple in my cooler cycling wardrobe.

Great for Cool Weather in Phoenix

These are great for crisp mornings in Phoenix. Pros: Kept my toes nice and warm down to 50 degrees. Neoprene is nice and stretchy; love the color for visibility. Cons: Won't keep feet warm below 50; since they pull over toes, with my Sidi shoes and release system, can be challenging to adjust fitting once covers are on.
