Description

Tailored to your ride.

When a column of brooding clouds threatens your Saturday morning ride, you can't just reach for any old rain jacket "just in case." Whether you've learned from experience or not, we can assure you that the qualities that make a good general use rain jacket are not the same as those that matter on the bike. Rather than spending your ride clammy and overheating under a stiff, unyielding shell, reach for the Castelli Superleggera Jacket the next time the skies make you uneasy.

Unlike that rain shell in your closet, the Superleggera easily packs away into a small saddle pack if stormy clouds blow over and the sun comes back out, but its wind- and water-resistant fabric are up to the task of staving off bad weather while maintaining breathability. Castelli wisely adds a completely waterproof panel of fabric at the back of the jacket as well, which won't soak through when you're dealing with wheel spray and wet roads for miles on end.

  • An ultralight jacket to keep you riding on wet, windy days
  • Form-fitting cut fits over a jersey or baselayer
  • Waterproof Stretch Torrent back panel seals out wheel spray
  • Pertex Quantum main fabric repels water and blocks wind
  • Multiple reflective accents help you stay visible from all angles

Great Ultralight Jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

For the people complaining about this jacket being too light, please read the name. This is an ultralight jacket and is built specifically to be light and packable so you can stuff it into your jersey pocket for emergencies like when the temps drop and you are 50 miles away from home.

And it is fantastic at doing that job. Packs up to the size of a tennis ball if you really squish it. No pockets. Just a zipper, some reflective stripes, and a grippy silicone strip on the rear hem.

Better than other ultralight jackets such as the ghost lite, especially at this price, because it does not look like a trash bag, is not see-through, and fits better.

The fit is perfect, and by perfect I mean that it fits like a thermal jersey. Not skin-tight, but snug with good freedom of movement and no bunching. This is also taking into account that you have to buy one size up for Castelli, as usual. It has stretch panels on the underarms and back too, so I can actually raise my arms above my head without the jacket riding up and with no gussets, which is impressive. You will probably be able to wear a thermal jersey under it, but not much else. I am 5'9", 170 lbs, 32" waist and have a larger upper body than the average cyclist.

Two considerations. First, buy a size up for a tight fit as mentioned. Second, Castelli does this weird thing with some of their clothes where they offset the two zippered halves at the collar by a quarter inch. I think they do this to eliminate zipper chafing without adding extra material, but it is definitely a design feature and not a defect. I don't like it, but i'll take it since the quality of everything else is outstanding.

This jacket is so nice that I might also buy the vest as well even though its already jacket weather.

Great super-light wind jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: M

Wanted an upgraded wind jacket for the rides where a thermal jacket would be overkill but I needed to throw on more than a gilet to warm my core.

Used a couple of times, especially on a ride around SF and Marin that had me in and out of fog and wind, up and down elevation. Temps from the 40s to 60s, over a Gabba and arm warmers, the Superleggera kept me comfy throughout. During warmer patches I stuffed the jacket into my jersey pocket. The sleeve cuffs are genius, go under gloves perfectly. The one complaint would be that the jacket is so light that the zipper is hard to fit together while rolling if you undo it entirely.

Once again, extremely small

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: XL

Okay, I get it. I'm a large guy. 6' & 200 lbs. I can buy almost any brand of cycling clothes in XL and I'm good to go. Castelli, no way. I have had problems with Castelli sizes in the past and this was no different. I couldn't even zip the jacket. Do I need XXL, XXXL? I don't know, but I'm not buying Castelli via mail order again. Disappointing looks like a great jacket but I will never know.

Light and perfect for cool (not cold day

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: 2XL

This jacket feel hi-tech. The fabric is very light but blocks wind. I wear it on morning commutes where it is 50-65 degrees. I don't think it would be appropriate for actually cold weather but for my conditions it works great. It is super small though. I usually wear a Large and I got the 2XL to have some breathing room. I could have done the XL for a more aero fit but to get actual breathing room needed a 2XL.

Overpriced for flimsy piece of fabric.

I love Competitive Cyclist and have made multiple Castelli purchases. This is the first time I have had any issues with anything I have bought from this site. This jacket is WAY too thin and flimsy to cost $100, which is what I paid with a 50% discount. This rain jacket shouldn't cost more than $30 when compared to other Castelli products. Also, I have to buy XL for all Castelli tops, this particular jacket was not even close to fitting me. Much smaller than expected.

Perfect Windbreaker

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I bought this jacket for my boyfriend who logs a lot of miles on his bike. His review: "This jacket fits like most bike gear and is small but that's what makes it great. I can easily shove it in my jersey until I need it and it is super light weight so I don't feel like it weights me down. Plus this thing is great at blocking the wind."

Great jacket for layering

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

I was looking for something that was light weight and keeps the cold from coming in. this jacket keeps the wind out when you need it and helps n keeping you warm.

Easy to fold up and put in your jersey pocket after the you warm up and longer need the extra layer. Great jacket for the price.

great jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I was looking for something light and durable, this was the answer. I love that its small enough to fit in your jersey for those cloudy rainy days. The fit is snug buit not tight. I wish the sleeves were just a tad bit longer( i have long arms). But other then that its a great jacket for the price.

great windbreaker

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: M

I use this for rides when I'm not sure if the wind will bother me or not. Rolls up really small to fit into a jersey pocket. As long as you use the sizing chart the sizing is spot on. I got a size M and am about 37 1/2 chest and it's snug over a jersey but not tight.

Great fit and light for carrying.

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

The Large is a perfect fit for me, snug but not stretched. I'm a 38 chest and 32 waist. It does have a stretch panel in the back so will accommodate a slightly larger sized person. Its light and is easily stuffed into a pocket to carry when it might rain. It also acts as a good wind break and for early morning starts before it warms up.

Great ultra-light jacket

  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: XL

This is a great Southern California jacket, especially for the cooler months when weather can vary from really chilly to sunny and warm in the span of 3-4 hours. This jacket folds up and packs easily in a jersey pocket so you don't have an excuse to leave it behind. Once you put it on, the fit feels pretty well-tailored. The fit is not perfect, but it's close. In the wind it strikes a balance between breath-ability and warmth. The fabric is super thin and nearly transparent, especially in white but during activity it manages to retain heat without turning into a sauna. One of the reasons it's so light is that it has no back pockets, or any pockets to speak of at all. Also, the waterproof fabric on the back doesn't cover the entire back. It's just a stripe at the upper to middle back, then it widens to about hip width at the bottom. If you're depending this this jacket to defend you from wheel spray it might do OK, but it won't keep your back completely dry in heavy wheel spray. This is important to note considering some users may use it on days that aren't rainy but still feature puddles and standing water. Overall I really like the jacket and it will be my first choice to stick in my jersey on days that might hold chilly descents or for rides that might start or end when the sun isn't out.

Smaller than you hope...

Seems like a great jacket, but the M I got didn't make it around my chest, and I measure less around the chest than the spec'ed size (I know, not real buff...). Also a bit short,

    Great summer-weight rain kit.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Size Bought: Large

I've worn this on a couple of rainy rides; low 60s; intermittent sprinkles. The jacket was great. I could see the water rolling off of it as I motored along. I didn't overheat and the inside of the jacket stayed dry. What a difference vs. those clear PVC numbers. It was somewhat chilly, though, so I'm not sure about possible 'terrarium effect' on hotter days. No venting makes me wonder a bit about that. Otherwise: impossibly light; good rearward coverage (with thicker material on lower quarter of back); usual impeccable Castelli quality/design. Size chart is dead-on; large fit perfectly.

    nice, lightweight, packable, too short

went up a size to XL and still too short.
