Sorpasso 2 Wind Bib Tight

Dedicated cyclists know no offseason, and if you plan to maintain or improve fitness, maintenance and gains are made during those cold months when freezing temps are the norm. Castelli recognizes the importance of proper winter clothing better than most and creates garments that thrive in those conditions, and one of its warmest tight, the Sorpasso 2 Wind Bib Tight, is another finely crafted chapter in the storied Italian brand's book. It embodies its classic Castelli fit and quality that will keep you motivated to ride through the harsh winter along with technical fabrics to keep you comfortable when most cyclists have committed to the rollers.

The Sorpasso 2 Wind Bib Tight takes everything that makes its Sorpasso winter tight excellent and gives it even more firepower against the winter elements. Like the standard Sorpasso, it consists of Thermoflex Core2 at the back of the legs that allow for excellent wicking and breathability. By drawing the sweat away from your skin and transferring it to the back of the garment, out of the way of oncoming frigid wind, it greatly reduces the chilling effect. For the back panel and lower legs, it employs a water-repellent Nano Flex Xtra Dry which provides protection from wheel spray on wet roads.

What separates the tight from the standard Sorpasso and is something you're sure to appreciate in blustery conditions is its inclusion of Gore Windstopper X-Fast panels that extend from the waist to just past the knees. This windproof, four-way stretch fabric has a fleece layer that sits softly against the skin. As such, it extends the temperature range of the Sorpasso 2 Wind Bib Tight down to well below freezing, with Castelli recommending it ideal at temps between 23 and 46-degrees Fahrenheit where the standard Sorpasso occupies a milder 41 to 54-degree range. The tight also features a lumbar support pad that helps keep the tight form-fitting around the waist preventing the cold and wind from creeping in beneath your winter jacket.

A welcome return and one that we've really come to appreciate on our summer bibs is Castelli's range-topping Progetto X2 Air chamois. Its top layer is made from a seamless, four-way stretch, micro-denier fabric that moves with your body to help eliminate chafing. To keep sensitive skin happy, it receives an anti-bacterial treatment. This layer is bonded to a multi-density foam pad that provides optimal padding for different areas. Sit bones receive denser perforated pads, while softer padding is placed in soft tissue areas. You won't be dreading those winter base miles in this tight.

Castelli finishes the Sorpasso 2 Wind Bib Tight with ankle closures featuring YKK Camlock zippers so that they keep out any drafts and make getting in and out of the tight easier. Its trimmed with reflective tape for low-light visibility and the tight is further bolstered by reflective side panels so motorists are more likely to spot you while out on the roads.

The Castelli Sorpasso 2 Wind Bib Tight comes in sizes Small through XXX-Large in the color Black/Reflex.

I have the regular Sorpasso 2, and thought I’d get a beefier pair for colder weather. These are very warm - I’d be fine into the mid-20’s. They seem to breathe fairly well, and I don’t get too hot, as long as the temp doesn’t creep up too high. Haven’t tried them in wet weather yet, and frankly hope I don’t. The fit is typical Castelli - oriented towards the slimmer folk. I am 6’0”/165 and wear an XL. Quality construction.

Super soft, warm and comfortable, when I have a choice I always go for these unless I've already used them in the week and no longer have it available in my closet. Cannot save enough good things about them, have used them down into the high 30's and low 40's and they maintain your body temp in the legs well. Seem to repel water as well on the lower part of the leg that may get road spray. Fit is snug but expected I sized up one size which works perfectly fine at a XL 6'2 and 215

Got these to be my coldest-weather tights. Tested them down to 35F (according to the gauge on my Garmin), not even a hint that they were approaching their lower limit! Fabrics looked and felt great, and nicely made, as is typical for Castelli. I use M in Assos bibs, so I tried L in these and they were just too small: an effort to put on, slightly short in the legs, and crowded in the crotch. XL fit much better but now not enough support for the boys, flopping around uncomfortably. Distracting! These have Castelli's higher grade Projetto X2 chamois, which I expected to be more comfy. A contributing factor could be that my saddle has no padding (a Selle SMP Carbon Lite), which I like because I can move around on it and the shape suits me, but it means I rely on the padding in my shorts. So alas I had to return them.
