Item # CST007K

Barely there.

With their lightweight, four-way stretch material and virtually seamless construction, the only sensory indications that you're wearing Castelli's Secondapelle RC Gloves are the added comfort and grip of the AX Suede palm. The subtle graphical treatment is as clean as the gloves' bodies are unobtrusively aerodynamic, so they won't stand out as a garish accessory, either.

Very Pro

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

I like this gloves because they are very simple, aerodynamic and comfortable. It is true there is no sweat accesorie, and they are difficult to try to take them off after riding them, but this are minimal things for me... Had some problems with the seam in my right hand glove.

Man, these gloves look awesome in all black.

1.) Minimal padding provides better bar feel, comfort, and control. Feel and control. 2.) No velcro for better aerodynamics and no snagging on your expensive kit. 3.) Very clean elegant styling. 4.) Synthetic AX suede palm is actually more durable (and washable) than leather. 5.) Very fine, soft lycra top provides very snug, aero fit.

"Secondapelle" means "second skin" in Italian.

Cons: 1.) Expensive. $60 for short-finger gloves made in China? 2.) No sweat wipe on the thumb top. 3.) Most importantly: Longevity. The laser cut "raw" hem along the top wrist is fraying after only 10 uses. In addition, despite VERY careful removal, I'm having trouble with a second pair tearing along the middle finger seam after only 4 uses. Anyone else?

(I'm using the new Pearl Izumi PRO Aero glove as back-up. No problems there at all.)

Sizing: For this Castelli glove, size up +1 for sure. Sizing for gloves in general: Pearl Izumi = L. Giro = L/XL. Castelli = XL.

Oh hey, what's the problem with Made in China???

Interesting question with multiple implications. There is nothing inherently wrong with outsourcing production to China with regard to quality (however, this begs the question why the seams on this item are failing so easily). And China is one of the oldest, richest cultures on the planet. But Castelli is -not- an Asian company. It is a famous Italian cycling sportswear company with deep roots in cycling that go back to clothing 5-time Giro winner Alfredo Binda in the 1920s and 30s and 5-time Giro winner Fausto Coppi in the 1940s.

The only reason for a famous Italian sportswear company to outsource production is to lower labor and production costs. Yet plenty of Italian cycling sportswear companies still manufacture ALL of their clothing in Italy (SMS Santini, De Marchi, ALÉ, Nalini), or all of their clothing in Europe like Sportful --and-- their prices are roughly equal to or lower than Castelli's (such as with these gloves). Castelli has elected to outsource all of their production (except socks) to China, Macau, Vietnam, El Salvador, etc. to lower their costs. Ok, fine. But this should be reflected, for example in the price of these simple, short finger gloves. But it is not.

    nice lightly padded race glove

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Very little padding but very very solid race glove. I don't like much padding in my glove it's just for crash protection and grip. I like this glove cause it's light and ventilates well.
