Castelli's Rosso Corsa Classic Gloves have a reputation. For years, they've soaked up the cobbles of France and Belgium for Team Garmin-Barracuda, but to us, this speaks less to their quality than their Rosso Corsa designation from Castelli.
Rosso Corsa simply translates 'Racing Red.' However, there's much more to it than than that. Rosso Corsa was the traditional Red of international motor racing -- seen until the late 1960s as the color that all Italian race cars were painted for international races. Racing Red was definitely cooler than the white with two lengthwise stripes that the American cars had. Rosso Corsa is reserved by Castelli to delineate the best of its best, and the pieces that're part of this lineage represent where Castelli has sweated every detail to achieve what it believes to be a categorical breakthrough.
As Castelli glove designs traditionally present smooth lines to the wind, this glove has no strap or adjustable closure system. Instead, the glove is simply a pull-on. The Clarino synthetic leather palm has been given a generous gel padding, with sections of density ranging up to 5mm. Additionally, the gel padding incorporates a porous composition that minimizes palm sweat within the glove. At the outside of the palm, Castelli has placed silicone print that won't slip, even when the bars are covered with a sheen of rain and a patina of Belgian mud. And to further ensure grip, the gel padding is reticulated in order to ensure a full range of malleability.
For the sensation of cooling ventilation, the back of hand has been constructed from a highly breathable mesh. This way, you maintain the vibration absorbency found in the palm without drowning your hands in sweat. But, when sweat emanates from other parts of the body, like the head, use the newly added, microsuede thumb wipe to soak it up. And speaking of new features, this year's Rosso Corsa has done away with the embroidery of the past in favor of smoother finish that's free from abrasion.
The Castelli Rosso Corsa Classic Gloves are available in six sizes from X-Small to XX-Large and in the colors Black, Red/black, and White/grey.
- Low-profile mesh body
- Clarino synthetic leather palm with gel padding and silicone grip
- Micro suede wiping patch

This is my second pair. First pair was a tight fit. Second pair was perfect. Padding is sufficient and feels light on the hands hence the second pair.

I've been wearing these gloves for years. I find them to be the most comfortable gloves I've worn in my 30+ years of cycling. Just the right amount of padding, good fit (they run small, as do most Castelli products), good terry wipe. That's the obvious good. The bad is what you'll read in other reviews...for some reason, these aren't the most durable gloves (which is why they only get 4 stars). You'll start to see wear, fraying edges, etc. probably within a month or two of wearing them. It doesn't seem to cause any problems with performance, they just look like hell. I bought two pair this time for just that reason; I know I'll have a backup pair once the first one gets too ratty. But I feel their comfort outweighs their durability issues, so I keep buying them.

These gloves are not bulletproof, but I find them very sturdy when taking them on and off. Lightweight performance sometimes comes at a cost, and these gloves only require an extra 2-3 seconds to don (compared to a Velcro closure). That's a small price to pay IMHO. I will update this post after a few months of use. For sizing, I used a soft ruler to measure my hand, and the size chart was accurate.

Great glove. A little hard to get into without an opening flap, as these are slip one. Classic look w full size logo. Definitely run small as I could barely pull them on without ripping them. Must b good material cuz my dog chewed the shit out of them.

This is the 3rd set of these I have had as the previous 2 went back for seam tears using them for 3-4 rides. I love the gloves and the depth and placement of the padding but they just won't hold up and I took a lot of time putting them on and removing them knowing that the quality reviews were not kind. It;'s disappointing because i love the glove.

Great looking gloves and I love Castelli, however. I tried these gloves out the day I got them and as I pulled on the first glove the stitching in the wrist trim popped. When I finished my ride the stitching on the other glove popped. Otherwise I was pleased with them.

Good as long as they hold together

I'm on my second pair of these gloves this year. The first ones had stitching on both gloves in the same place begin to come undone. Competitive exchanged them under warranty, but now the second set also has stitching, albeit in a different part of the glove coming undone. The fit is great as is the comfort. But having 2 sets now where the stitching is coming undone is not acceptable. Previous gloves were Specialized BG Fit and they held together for several years before the gloves developed issues necessitating replacement. Like all Castelli kit I get, the gloves, socks & jerseys are sized at XXL versus XL in most other brands.

I purchased a second pair of these gloves for my Dad. He loved his so much and wore them out. He is a big guy with longer narrow hands and the XL fit great. Adequate for the longer rides he enjoys.

I generally wear a size medium in gloves, maybe large. So I ordered a pair of larges since Castelli occasionally runs small. Way to small so tired the xl...again to small. The xxl size fit and I really like them. The only down side is that there is no velcrow opening so even getting the xxl pair on can be difficult. Again, great padding, cool, protects my hand but sizing is just odd.

I really like the look and feel of these gloves, but they began to break down rather quickly. I will say that even though they became a bit tattered, they never died. I still use them because I like the padding and the cut. I just wish they were a bit more well put together. Big hands, XXL is cool. The wrist is not very elastic, so you have to make like a crab to squeeze your "pinchers" in. Grab a pair of these on sale and take them to pound-town (I just hope it's not a block away).

I agree on the way they are put together. Ordered first set in March, replaced in May due to stitching coming undone. Replacement pair now has stitching coming undone.

Light. Breathable. Somewhat Durable.

I've used these gloves for about 2 years now and are still in decent shape. The only part that has not lasted was the grip of the palm. Other then that, I'm glad I got these light and breathable gloves.

Great feel, unsure about durability

These gloves feel really nice out on the road. I have no complaints there. My issue is that some of the stitching started to become undone after a month or so of owning the gloves. Not quite the typical castelli quality--given how much they cost I feel they could be better.

Agreed. I noticed that my pair of Rosso Corsa gloves have come unstitched on the right pinkie and right index finger. I'm somewhat handy with a sewing needle, so I'll probably just fix them, but it's disappointing.

Smaller this year?
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
This was my favorite glove last season and I ordered the same size again this year. I could barely get the glove on and it was painful trying to get it down the lower hand to the wrist. It took me about 5 minutes of working it back and forth and barely squeezed on. Not sure what they did, but I'll have to switch to something else, not recommended for anyone with a larger wrist or hand.

Very light, questionable durability
Fully vented top side keeps hands very cool. No velcro strap makes it easy to get on/off and comfortable. Pull tab between middle and ring finger helps get it off, but don't pull it off too hard - pull tab seems to be coming unstitched after a while. Wristband is coming unstitched in 1 place too. Tried using for mountain biking...no good because of all of the gel pads. Stick to the roads.
