Description

Brave the elements.

Looming clouds and threatening rainstorms are no match for the Castelli Men's Riparo Rain Jacket. This little jacket packs a big punch to combat the weather, with a mix of waterproof materials and packability that will have you out braving the elements and your friends wondering when you became such a hard core, all-weather rider. Just make sure to post photos and load the ride file.

Castelli fashions the Riparo from its 2.5 layer Torrent IV fabric. It's got a waterproof polyurethane membrane and woven outer shell that effectively blocks the elements. You lose a tiny bit of breathability with that much weatherproofing, but given the unappealing consequences of getting caught in a storm with lesser materials and limping home a shivering, damp mess, it seems like a more than acceptable compromise.

As with all things Castelli, this jacket oozes attention to details. The seams are fully sealed and the zipper is also waterproof to ensure not a single errant droplet gets through while a high collar provides additional protection from the elements. The jacket's shape is cut to mirror the body in the cycling position, so you'll notice that the back and sleeves have been elongated to prevent gaps whether you're spinning on the hoods or hammering in the drops.

Castelli finishes off the Riparo jacket with a stuff pocket that doubles as a stow-away pouch when the clouds break and sunshine resumes. For low-light and unendingly rainy days, reflective detailing helps increase visibility to motorists and other road users so you can ride safely to your destination.

Lightweight and great protection

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This rain jacket is fantastic. SUPER lightweight, high visibility yellow, rolls up super tight to slip in your back pocket if need be, wind and waterproof aspect not only keeps you dry but keeps you surprisingly warm. I wear this with one thermal longsleeve and bib-tights for winter rides here in Seattle. (Performs well in 35F-50F with rain). The only thing that would make it better is if it had a larger stuff pocket on the back--on my longer rides I am forced to wear a jersey underneath it to store more items.

Can't live without it

Best compact rain jacket I have ever come across. Small enough to put in your back pocket, but warm enough to get you down a freezing cold mountain.
