Quindici Sock

Made from 100% merino wool, Castelli Quindici Soft Socks are the ideal choice for long winter rides in cold and windy conditions. By now you've hopefully learned the merits of wool. A traditional material renowned for its softness, merino wool keeps your feet warm and comfortable while letting moisture evaporate. This breathability is especially important for cyclists, as winter months often mean cramming socks into shoes and shoes into booties. Without a means by which moisture can escape, your feet become colder faster; making wool socks an important cold-weather companion. Wool is also naturally odor-resistant -- a nice bonus. Thanks to a tall 15cm cuff, Castelli Quindici Soft Socks also offer outstanding ankle coverage, so you won't have to worry about a thin strip of exposed skin between your tights and socks.

  • Soft and toasty socks for chilly winter rides
  • Wool construction traps heat, wicks sweat, dries
  • Breathable fibers let sweat escape on the ride
  • Fight odors naturally with wool threads
  • Tall cuff keeps you covered from icy gaps

Beware of the sizing chart!

Living in the PNW, these have become my favorite socks. I like them because they are soft which provides some padding I don't get with thin socks and the wool blend provides a lot of seasonal versatility. I wear them without shoe covers down to 40 degrees with a fair amount of comfort and only consider a thinner sock on a day about 70. I get a fair amount of life out of them, but for a reason unbeknownst to me, I tend to wear holes in the bottom of the heal. Anyway, I think these are really good socks. Pricy but worth it to me. However, the shoe sizing chart isn't correct (not the first time CC has gotten something wrong [NW shoes are NOT smaller than Sidis as their chart says]). If you go by the chart XXL states that this corresponds to shoe size 45-47 (I wear a 45 Sidi Mega, street shoe is 10.5), I inadvertently XXL and the heal of sock was about three inches up my Achilles. I'll have to return these and get the size down which is L-XL.

Wore these socks once after an initial wash and the texture didn't change. These are not like other soft merino wool. Tried to stretch them out a bit when wet and that didn't help. I wear a size 9 US shoe and bought these in L/XL. Under insulated winter riding boots in above freezing weather and my feet were cold in an hour. Minimal loft and a tight fit contributed to the lack of warmth retention. A 3-season sock at best.

These are nice socks for about 4 months. After that, all the contact points wear through. For a $20 pair of socks it’s a waste of money. Haven’t had this problem with other brands.

These are great, comfortable, warm and soft. Very good socks, and another item I look to wear on each ride in the winter.

Hi. I just purchased Castelli Quindici socks to use in biking and non-biking situations. The purchase I made shows the socks as being a wool blend, yet the backcountry website shows it as 100% wool. Which one is it? I normally like 100% Merino Wool. These blended socks seem kind of rough. Thanks, Abe.

Very happy with this sock. My 10.5 - 11 size foot really likes the large size and the little extra thickness. My current socks are all fairly thin. Haven't washed it yet but even with a little shrinkage I think the fit will be fine. Length is about 2-3 inches above my ankle bone - perfect.

Castelli makes my favorite cooler weather socks. There are other warm socks out there but I think Castelli makes them more comfortable than any I've tried. Have owned several of their cool weather socks now and the Quindici live up to what I expect from them.

These are my favorite socks for all winter activities: nordic skiing, running, and of course riding. The Quindici sock packs some powerful warmth in a still slim sock. I have a few pairs, which have all held up quite well through several seasons of routine winter use. They are super comfortable and true to size.

The reference road sock for Winter

Castelli is located in the foothills of the Italian Dolomites. They know Winter cycling. And their Quindici socks are one of the best things they make. Made in Italy, the quality and looks of these wool socks is exceptional. Wool insulates, vents sweat, and provides low/zero odor -naturally. Wool is a superfabric! These are NOT just Winter socks. These are also perfect for use in the shoulder seasons (Spring/Fall) with your bibshorts and knee warmers. Accordingly, Castelli rates them from 60°F down to freezing (with shoe covers). Quindici means 15 -as in 15 cm high cuff. But these do eventually shrink down (vertically) about an inch. Longevity/quality: I have 3 pairs that I have worn extensively for two seasons. They eventually pilled a little around the foot (as all wool socks do), but no holes. Mine have held up great. Sizing: The sizing chart at the official Castelli website is best: Cycling shoe size: 36-39 = S/M Cycling shoe size: 40-43 = L/XL Cycling shoe size: 44-47 = 2XL I wear a size 45 in Shimano road shoes. The XXL fit perfect, especially after a few washings (wool does shrink a little).

If you can, grab some Merino wool socks from Castelli. Thick. Warm. Little puffy clouds for your feet. Mmmm.

Work really well in fall and spring. if it heats up a little you won't sweat to death. kept feeling warm down to about 45 deg. in a regular shoe. I was fine a little lower but my wife had cold toes any lower.

I wear a size 43-44 in the majority of cycling shoe brands, and the L/XL fit perfectly. I have worn these socks multiple times road riding as well as mtb in temperatures down to 35 and up to 70. Because it is wool, it works great for cool weather, but do not count it out when it is warmer out. Very breathable sock that vents heat and sweat from your foot very well. It is a great all around sock that will accommodate all kinds of conditions and types of riders. One of my pet peeves is a sock that slides down while riding. The ankle cuff wraps your ankle nicely and has a very durable feel. Simple yet versatile and effective socks. Spend the few bucks and grab yourself a pair, you won't regret it. Perfect height and beautiful design. Super high quality cooler weather sock that got me through this past winter when paired with the Castelli Toe Thingy and some overshoes when it got really cold. Fantastic moisture transfer as well. I wear a 44 shoe and the L/XL fits great.

Well, they are socks. And they are warm. And comfortable. And fit correctly (I'm a size 47 shoe, XXL fits good). Uh, let's see, they look good too? That's pretty much it in a nutshell. Wool, comfy, good quality, yep, they work great!
