Perfetto RoS Long-Sleeve Jersey

Back for another generation, Castelli launches its Perfetto jersey into the Rain-or-Shine line with a boost in water protection and breathability, while still maintaining the coveted cut and aesthetic of the fan favorite. We saw the Perfetto spell out the end of the Castelli Gabba era, and while it was a little bit bittersweet at first, once we got to know that our favorite features from the Gabba would carry forward, the deal got sweetened with elevated fabrics and technology, and the newest iteration continues that trend with the Perfetto RoS Long-Sleeve Jersey, packing in new GORE-TEX Infinium fabrics to offer you heat at the core, and ventilation at the back, enabling you to ride hard no matter the weather.

Changes were abound on this generation of Perfetto, with all new fabrics going into the construction in its entirety. Instead of the GORE Windstopper X-Lite of previous years, Castelli employs a balance of GORE-TEX Infinium 205 Warm and 203 Stretch fabrics. At the front-facing panels, the warmer 205 is placed to provide you with an insulated brushed lining to trap in heat, while a fully waterproof membrane takes on showers, gusts, and hail, contrasting to the ultra-breathable 203 Stretch at the back panels that offer exceptional mobility, while ushering perspiration outwards to maximize ventilation and keep your core primed through the miles.

While the materials are undoubtedly an impressive feature of the Perfetto, what makes the piece truly stand out is its attention to fit. Cut with the race in mind, the Perfetto features forward-oriented sleeves, and an abbreviated chest that reduce bulk when you're in the cycling position. Of course, this means that the jersey feels a bit tight across the chest when standing upright, but when stretched out on your bike its built to contour perfectly to your muscles for an aerodynamic fit that skips bulky folds of excess fabric. In contrast to its predecessor, the Gabba, the Perfetto fits even closer to your chest and stomach, preventing any sagging and bulk through your core that we often find in winter-oriented kits.

Castelli recommends the Perfetto RoS Long Sleeve for temperatures ranging from 39-to-57-degrees Fahrenheit, which stretches comfortably into slightly cooler temperatures than the previous Perfetto. Just as with the Gabba and previous Perfetto, we find this jersey to find a bit on the toasty side in the mid 50's, especially when hammering up major elevations, though its temperature designation is something we'd say is subject to personal tolerances, and with a proper base layer we can see it working well for many riders at even cooler temps.

  • Castelli's updated Perfetto excels through rain and wind
  • GORE Infinium 205 Warm fabric at front fights the elements, insulates
  • Flexible back panel of GORE's Infinium 203 lets you move freely
  • Breathable membranes enable exceptional moisture management
  • Race-worthy cut sheds excess fabric for a form-fitting silhouette
  • Contoured paneling is designed for bulk elimination in riding position
  • Deter wheel spray from close fitting storm flap and drop tail hem
  • Zippered vents at chest drop heat in a pinch
  • 2 rear pockets with pump sleeve can be accessed with gloves on
  • Bright reflective details boost low light visibility

Don't know what to think.

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: XL

Where do I start?
This is definitely a racers jersey or jacket or jersey? It fits really small. The arms are really skinny. The good thing is, it does have some stretch to it.
I've worn this coat from 40 to 50 degrees with a thin Nike base-layer. I don't usually run hot. I'm a 20-22 group rider, not a racer.

What's weird about this coat is that when you start out, you can feel the wind on the arms and chest, more so than say.. the original Gabba or the Transparente jersey. But when you start to build up heat with an effort, you get clammy and hot and it won't vent. Even with the chest vents. They are off to the side too much to take in air. They are probably letting some out, I guess, just not enough.
I did manage to get caught in the rain with it on. It rained for about 20 minutes and then showers off and on. I stayed dry. Clammy, but dry. The problem was, it was 46 degrees with wind, and I was still hot, so I had the front un-zipped halfway and I got a little wet in the front.
Another gripe is the rear pockets are "set-in", so you have to reach a little further behind you. And yes, there are only two, which isn't awful, but it makes your stuff harder to find because your other stuff is in the way. I usually put my gel and bar in one, my phone in one, and then keys and miscellaneous in the third one. I was fighting keys, and spare lenses, trying to find my gel with gloves on. Also, they are short in height. My Pixel 3 reaches the top.
Is this coat all bad?
The zippers are really easy to operate, even the chest vent ones. It did keep me dry. While snug, it does stretch and feels good on the bike fit-wise.
If they moved the side vents forward, and added sleeve vent zippers, this coat might not get stay so clammy. And also go back to the 3 pocket style.
I guess I'll just keep this for the mild, showery days. Too clammy for anything else.
