Perfetto Ros Long Sleeve Jersey

Castelli's Perfetto RoS Long-Sleeve is a staple here at the Competitive office. So much so that we often get a little tired of showing up to group rides wearing the same kit as the person who sits in the cubicle next to us, thankfully, with Castelli's Limited Edition Perfetto RoS Long Sleeve Jersey we can opt to stand out, packing in all of the tech we the Perfetto, but with a different aesthetic. We saw the Perfetto spell out the end of the Castelli Gabba era, and while it was a little bit bittersweet at first, once we got to know that our favorite features from the Gabba would carry forward, the deal got sweetened with elevated fabrics and technology, and the newest iteration continues that trend with the Perfetto RoS Long-Sleeve Jersey, packing in new GORE-TEX Infinium fabrics to offer you heat at the core, and ventilation at the back, enabling you to ride hard no matter the weather.

Changes were abound on this generation of Perfetto, with all new fabrics going into the construction in its entirety. Instead of the GORE Windstopper X-Lite of previous years, Castelli employs a balance of GORE-TEX Infinium 205 Warm and 203 Stretch fabrics. At the front-facing panels, the warmer 205 is placed to provide you with an insulated brushed lining to trap in heat, while a fully waterproof membrane takes on showers, gusts, and hail, contrasting to the ultra-breathable 203 Stretch at the back panels that offer exceptional mobility, while ushering perspiration outwards to maximize ventilation and keep your core primed through the miles.

While the materials are undoubtedly an impressive feature of the Perfetto, what makes the piece truly stand out is its attention to fit. Cut with the race in mind, the Perfetto features forward-oriented sleeves, and an abbreviated chest that reduce bulk when you're in the cycling position. Of course, this means that the jersey feels a bit tight across the chest when standing upright, but when stretched out on your bike its built to contour perfectly to your muscles for an aerodynamic fit that skips bulky folds of excess fabric. In contrast to its predecessor, the Gabba, the Perfetto fits even closer to your chest and stomach, preventing any sagging and bulk through your core that we often find in winter-oriented kits.

Castelli recommends the Perfetto RoS Long Sleeve for temperatures ranging from 39-to-57-degrees Fahrenheit, which stretches comfortably into slightly cooler temperatures than the previous Perfetto. Just as with the Gabba and previous Perfetto, we find this jersey to find a bit on the toasty side in the mid 50's, especially when hammering up major elevations, though its temperature designation is something we'd say is subject to personal tolerances, and with a proper base layer we can see it working well for many riders at even cooler temps.

I was persuaded to buy this jersey by the other reviews advertising warmth down into the 30's. It is impressive at its wind-blocking ability; did not check it's resistance to moisture nor its breathability. At 40 degrees I was still cold and would need a jersey underneath or a jacket over. I tried it with a Russell athletic t-shirt underneath and was still cold. This jersey is really just a shell; I thought there would be some insulation involved. If I have to wear a jacket over it I lose the value of the (expensive) outer fabric on the jersey. I think I am better off wearing my other Castelli winter jerseys and my PI wind/water-proof jacket. The large size fit me perfectly, like a glove. At 76 years old I have a lot less muscle than I used to. It is tight but feels great when stretched out over the handlebars.

Awesome jacket! Exactly what i was looking for to block wind and rain with a race fit. Definitely sized to fit a racer's physique. I'm 5 10 162 lbs with and a past bodybuilder turned cyclist. If you have any meat on your chest or biceps you will need a 2XL. I normally wear large but the XL was too tight in the arms and chest. Looking forward to riding with the jacket in winter and early spring.

Sizing issues

This is a Jersey, not a jacket. That said, sizing is definitely on small size. I typically wear either a large (Assos/Craft) or XL for more casual jerseys. I am 6?2, 190. This was ordered as an XL and was so tight across the shoulders I thought the armpit seams would tear and I was unable to zip. The sleeve length was right on. The body length was slightly short. I am a former collegiate swimmer, and am not built like a pure cyclist. Triathletes and others with broad shoulders, beware. UPDATE: XXL Size mostly fits. Still tight in armpits, but fits great in bike position. Not so comfortable for after ride coffee at the cafe. 41 degrees and a drizzle. Comfortable, but any cooler and should wear base layer.

Quality jersey all the way around. Initially, I thought the fit wasn't going to work; the fit was great everywhere except too tight through the front of the shoulders and into the pits. Once I got in the saddle and started my ride it immediately felt like it was a tailor-made jersey. Wow, this puppy was designed and fabricated beautifully. This is my new favorite cold weather jersey. 42 degrees with only an UnderArmor compression tank top and bibs. Totally comfortable.

Performs as advertised and has not disappointed. I decided to purchase the perfetto long sleeve as an upgrade to my short sleeved gabba to further the range of temperatures I can go out in. For me, the perfetto with a baselayer has me very comfortable in temperatures down into the low 30s and surprisingly comfortable too into the low 50s.

Winter Perfection!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
XXL

My reason for choosing this jersey was to find one that could be worn alone even if the temps dipped into the 30s but also could be coupled with a midweight base layer for temperatures below 30 degrees. And here in Nebraska we don't even notice the wind until it is above 20 mph but the added wind protection of this jersey was an added bonus. After reading the reviews I ordered an XL even though I wear a large in Castelli jerseys. Whenever it arrived and I tried it on, as someone else had stated, picture a stuffed sausage. I am 5'7" 175 pounds stocky build. Zipping would have compromised the jersey and my arms almost couldn't fit in the sleeves. So I ordered a XXL. The fit was snug but still provided room for a midweight base layer. My first chance to wear the jersey had nothing to do with cycling. After a snow and with the wind howling and the windchill dipping to -10....I put on a slightly heavier baselayer and the jersey and ventured out to blow snow for two hours. Yes, at times I was a little chilly, but I was amazed at its ability to deflect the wind and trap warmth inside! Now as to my first ride, I coupled this jersey with a sleeveless undershirt and the Castelli Entrata wind bib tights. The day was partly sunny and the temp was 34° with a 12-15 mph wind. With few hills the 35 mile ride was moderate as far as effort was concerned (having to dodge patches of snow and ice) but at no time did I notice the cold or the wind. Granted, I do run on the warm side. If you're looking for kit that can stand up to rides in the mid 30's to 40's alone or even down into the 20's with an appropriate baselayer...look no further!

Perfect fit.

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Some people got this confused with a cycling jacket and gave it terrible reviews regarding how tight it fits. This is a cycling jersey, not a jacket. It fits perfect as a jersey and provides considerable warmth and protection against the wind. Nonetheless, I rode in both hot and cold conditions and this jersey functioned extraordinarily well in all scenarios. Definitely worth the investment.
