Perfetto RoS Glove

When designers at Castelli set out to add a glove to the brand's Perfetto lineup, they knew they had to get things just right. After all — the Perfetto name draws quite a lot of attention, and comes with a high reputation. Fortunately they pulled out all of the stops with the Castelli Perfetto RoS Glove, packing in all new materials, minimal seaming, and just the right amount of cushion to keep you on the road, come rain or shine. The gloves begin construction with new GORE-TEX Infinium fabric that offers water and wind protection on the outside, while a fleece layer inside traps heat and ushers away sweat. The gloves provide ample warmth, despite being deceptively thin, so you can maintain mobility and dexterous control of your shifters and braking. The palm packs in Castelli Damping System, or CDS for short, strategically placing padding where your hand receives the most vibration from the road, aiming to reduce fatigue and elevate comfort while you ride.

Pretty Close to 'Perfetto'

I can't recommend these gloves highly enough. I'm a big fan of anything Castelli. Over the years, my love has been tested a only a few times, most recently with their 'Spettacolo' gloves which were not, well, all that spectacular. The palm grip panels on that model sheared off after 2-3 rides, although they remain usable and have made the grade otherwise. The hyperbolic naming has continued with the Perfetto, but this time it rings true. I have ridden with these on several chilly rides, some with light rain and/or stiff headwinds. Despite being impossibly thin and light, they are quite warm-at least as warm as the heavier Spettacolo-maybe warmer, although temps haven't yet dipped below 40, when I usually reach for heavier gloves. The fit is nice and snug, so loss of dexterity is minimal when shifting, finding zipper pull-fobs, or poking around for a gel in the back pocket. Padding is grippy and substantial without being too bulky or obtrusive. Rain beads up and rolls right off, but I'm not sure that it would keep up with a real downpour. Most importantly, there is far less build-up of humid moisture in the inside, as you'd get with neoprene gloves that, in general, offer the best water resistance. Sizing chart is dead-on, but I have long-ish, skinny fingers. Even so, pulling these on (and especially off) takes some time. But, as with race-fit jerseys, etc., this is to be expected; they're not too small, just form-fitting. For reference, my hands, at their widest diameter: 8.75 in/222mm; index finger: 3 1/8 in/80mm; hand length from wrist crease to tip of index finger: 7.5 in/190mm.

A note on sizing

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it
Size Bought:
L

I haven't had a chance to use the gloves so ignore the stars. Based on other review comments about finger length, and the fact I have a long/slender hand, I sized down to L from my usual XL. However the fingers were too short and I had to return. So stick to your normal sizing. For reference my fingers are 8.5" from wrist to tip.

Great, especially for how thin they are

I bought these gloves for a fall and early winter riding (I live in Bend, OR). My hands get cold very easily, so I tend to need warmer gloves than almost anyone I've ridden with. I also specifically bought these due to the other reviews that mentioned long fingers, as I frequently run into problems with gloves where the finger length is a hair short for me. I would agree these a long - but great for me, and I'm sure it helps with the warmth! My take is these are pretty outstanding. They are very thin for a winter glove. Yet, they seem to keep my hands warm down to at least 40F, and I've had them in conditions now where it was snowing (early and slightly wet snow, so probably 30-35 temps). The only thing to beware of is, that they do take activity and a few minutes to heat up. I believe this is due to being thin and that there isn't a "pile" or "fleece" or similar type of material on the inside that would trap ambient heat as much. But, basically as soon as you have been riding maybe 10 mins, they will be warm. They handle moisture great. I haven't had them in a full downpour, but have had mild rain, and snow as mentioned. I'm saying "true to size" because I think while the fingers are long, the overall fit is accurate for the size. I've also found that they are likely going to be a great choice for AT skiing, when skinning up. Just used them for that the other day, and they were perfect! All in all, these are a great addition to my quiver, and I really like the fit and function.
