Perfetto RoS Convertible Jacket

Building on the previous Perfetto, Castelli aims to take things to the next level with the new Perfetto RoS Convertible jacket. At first glance, changes are abound left and right, and while the aesthetic changes to play a big part in the performance of the piece, we'd argue that the lesser noticed changes are where the biggest differences come to play. That's to say that, at first glance, you might not spot that Castelli drifts away from its GORE Windstopper construction for this iteration, moving to textiles that push further forward with Rain or Shine protection, utilizing GORE's newest Infinium fabrics.

While Windstopper served a solid purpose — stopping wind, the new Infinium 205 Warm offers a little more, with a brushed interior to trap in heat, and water protection on the outside, in addition to wind coverage. This is employed at all front-facing surfaces, where we need the most protection as we pedal into foul weather. To balance the insulation and elemental coverage at the front, Castelli utilizes GORE's Infinium 203 Stretch at the rear-facing surfaces. As the name may have you guessing, Infinium 203 Stretch is incredibly flexible, and offers lighter coverage than its partner in the front. It provides improved breathability for managing your perspiration as you pedal, and while the generous stretch allows the piece to contour to your body as you pedal.

Big changes were carried through beyond fabric alone, though, with the biggest being the new sleeve construction. Rather than offering sleeves that zip off from the torso, the new Perfetto RoS Convertible Jacket uses a new design that zips off just above the elbow. Now we know what you're thinking — raw zipper on the bicep while riding? No thank you. — But as usual, Castelli has thought through all of the details, opting for a unique cuff design at the sleeve, with a 3/4-zip, and multiple fabric layers to host the zipper sandwiched in the middle. This means that when you wear the jacket in long-sleeve form, no zipper is exposed and visible, and when you remove the sleeves, the zippers edge sits neatly inside, where it doesn't come into contact with your skin, or show its less pleasing aesthetic. Instead, you're left with a short-sleeve jacket that resembles the Gabba, which we find brilliant.
