Nanoflex 2 Bib Tights

Even those of us who are staunchly in favor of wearing shorts and warmers for cool weather can appreciate that, with water-repellant kit like Castelli's Nanoflex 2 Bib Tights, the uninterrupted fit of full-length tights has the benefit of eliminating any possible gaps where rain can get in. The Nanoflex 2 Bib Tights may lack the all-weather versatility of pairing shorts with warmers, but when it comes to complete protection against the elements, the coverage of tights is tough to argue against.

The secret to the Nanoflex Bib Tights' success is hidden subtly in their name. They're made from Castelli's Nanoflex fabric, which is a water-resistant version of the insulating Thermoflex fabric. Nanoflex is coated with millions of nanofilaments to create a water-repellant surface, compelling rain and road spray to bead up and roll off the surface. Of course, the introduction of those nanofilaments doesn't interfere with Nanoflex's thermal properties, and the brushed interior not only keeps warmth in, but it also wicks moisture away from your skin. The Nanoflex Bib Tights keep you dry from inside and out, because nothing puts the stop to a cool, damp base mile session faster than the accumulation of clammy moisture on your skin.

The bibs are made from breathable mesh that won't interfere with your upper-body layering with patches of extra insulation, and gripping bands and zippers at the ankles maintain water-repelling coverage. The inclusion of Castelli's Kiss Air insert ensures a comfortable cyclist-to-saddle interface with a varying topography of breathable padding and a soft, bacteriostatic cover.

  • Cycling bib tights for foul-weather training
  • NanoFlex material insulates and sheds rain
  • Kiss Air chamois for comfort in soggy conditions
  • Lie-flat grippers and zippered ankles
  • Reflective branding helps keep you visible in low-light

Great fit, great quality, does the job.

Great product. Warm enough without extra bulk, pad is great, fit is fantastic as for all Castelli products. I'm 5'7.5", 154 and wear a large. No idea what size "normal" sized folks wear.

Warm and cozy

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XXL

I’ve been a fan of Castelli clothing for a while; they’re honestly the first true biking shorts I purchased years ago and now I’m on to bibbs, base layers, and the head thingy. The sizing is sometimes tricky, but the recommendations allow me to know which direction I need to go, and it’s been spot on. I’m 6’5”, 185 lbs, so sizing is always of concern and I haven’t had to send a single thing back.

To the review: These bibbs are warm, cozy, and get the job done. I’ve been in cold and wet, cold and dry, and I’m always able to focus on the ride instead of my comfort, because it isn’t a concern, it’s a given. The chamois is top notch, again as expected, but that doesn’t take away from the quality. I’ve just come to expect the best from them and haven’t been disappointed.

It’s not hard; just buy a pair.

Great Chamois

Comfortable and warm, definitely want to save these for colder temperatures but they do a great job of keeping you warm below 60 degrees.

Warm! Good Fit

Had these for a couple months for the 2017 winter season in norcal. The small fits well (5' 8", 150). I find them okay up to ~55F, but a little too warm under dry sunny conditions even in that upper range. Better sub 50F.

Not actually "beading" water resistance!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: XL

These are fine cold-weather tights, but — at least my pair — do not at all live up the claims of water resistance. I live in Portland Oregon, and we have as many shades of raininess here as Utahans have for snowy conditions. I was looking for a pair of bibs that would sit in between "eh, just a bit misty" and "full on raingear" on our rain continuum. I have a set of Showers Pass rain pants for the latter and a variety of Sugoi, Pearl Izumi, etc, outerlayers for the former. The prospect of a water resistant, Castelli quality bib tight for two-plus-hour training rides and long commutes was pretty appealing, and I researched these, the PI Amphib, and Gore-tex to hit the sweet spot.

Unfortunately they do not live up to the claims of "beading" and "nanofilament wicking". Within a few minutes of being out in the spring rain, I feel moisture against my skin, and after fifteen minutes my thighs are wet and cold. The beading is *slightly* better on the lower half, where the road spray doesn't immediately soak in.

They ARE good cool-to-cold weather tights. But the search continues - at $150 I hope for truth in advertising, if not a magical pair of Goldilocks tights.

(NOTE TOO that like all Castelli stuff it runs "euro" size, so order up from your usual)

Worth the buy

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

These are exactly what i needed for my commute, they fit great and keep me warm in the 20's and teens. I wear them daily when the temps are below 30. i got a xl and i'm 6'2, 175, they fit great, i think a Large would have been a bit uncomfortable with the straps. The letters on the sides didn't make it through a single wash though before they started peeling off. Doesn't bother me but if you need to look branded then these may not be for you.
