Finding the right cycling jacket can make all the difference on those chilly rides. Donning one that’s overkill on a milder ride can leave you a sweaty mess, especially if any intensity is involved, and conversely too light of a jacket makes for a miserably cold experience that will have you contemplating riding the trainer next time. That's why we're such fans of the Mortirolo V Jacket from Castelli. It's lightweight and warm and ideal for those shoulder season rides or if your geographic location tends to have milder winters with Castelli recommending it in temperatures ranging between 43 and 57-degrees Fahrenheit. It doesn't offer quite the cold and rain protection as its siblings the Alpha or Espresso V, but in the right conditions, we would rather be in this jacket.
The Mortirolo V features a slim cut that’s designed for training and racing efforts and is comfortable on climbs such as its namesake, or during some openers for the weekend's 'cross race. It's not quite as contoured as some of Castelli's race kit, however, the Mortirolo V easily accommodates a baselayer or long-sleeve jersey without that overstuffed sausage casing appearance.
Gore Windstopper X-Fast main body fabric and stretchy windproof panels on the sides and shoulders provide protection against the wind and resist water, while Castelli's Thermoflex fleece covers the back of the jacket. It provides a refined fit and breathability to prevent overheating and allows moisture to escape. The jacket is finished with an easy sliding YKK zipper that facilitates one-handed ventilation adjustments, 3 rear pockets for stowing riding essentials, and a large reflective panel below the pockets help increase visibility to motorists.
- Enjoy shoulder season and winter rides in this versatile jacket
- Fit accommodates a baselayer or jersey without bulk
- Fabric provides wind protection and rain-resistance with warmth
- The tall collar extends protection and comfort
- Full-length YKK zipper allows you to adjust the airflow
- The larger reflective panel helps you stand out on the roads
- Recommended for temperatures into the low-40s

Excellent jacket
- Familiarity:

I have separate winter kits for sub 35F temps, 35F-45F, but have lacked a jacket for 45F-55F. I've been using a combination of old L/S jerseys and S/S & L/S baselayers with mixed success. After two 50 base mile rides, this jacket worked perfectly (like my now threadbare Assos Element-One + Wind Vest used to): (i) windy 46F with L/S Craft Active extreme baselayer and wind vest - toasty warm; and (ii) low 50s S/S Craft Active baselayer - comfy. So impressed was I that I just ordered another one. I now get to weed out my closet of older gear. Woo hoo! Castelli runs a tad small. XL is a snug fit for my 42" chest while still having room for one baselayer - but not two. If I had to size up, I'd probably shop another brand. Sidebar: DC weather has been weird this year. Feb temps at times resembled a shoulder season, while now heading into March, the temps will dip into the 20s, hunh?

I’m 5’7” with 32 waist and usually wear M but knowing Castelli products running small so ordered a L but it’s still a little tight. Returned and ordered XL...fits perfect. Will keep you warm from 40’s and 50’s and windy days. Little thicker than other jackets.

I am 6’3, should wear a L, but never had an XL not fit me. Bought this jacket as an XL and it does not even make it to my shorts. ( no am am not a big guy). If you are above 6’ don’t even bother. Seems to me that this jacket was mislabeled and should have been a Large. So disappointed!

awesome jacket and great for late fall, early spring time rides. I would say fit true to size however it is a very slim fit. the high collar is great for keeping in the warm and the cold breeze out!

Awesome jacket but runs small
I bought this for a gift for my husband. He's owned the exact same jacket (different color) for over 10 years. He wears it all the time. Finally, it was time to retire it and get a new one. The new one is equally as good but runs smaller. He's slim and fit but this time the XL fits the same as his old L size fits. Highly recommend but be careful to buy a size or two up.

What his chest size? I’m a 42” and wondering if a size L or XL will do?
