For winter's warmer days.
Winters have slowly but surely been on their way to becoming unseasonably warm. In a matter of years, some of our favorite burly winter layers have become obsolete when Old Man Winter just isn't dealing the same big blizzardy blows to us that he used to. Castelli brings to the table the new LW Bib tights as the right option for cool conditions when winter isn't harsh enough to justify breaking out your burly, softshell-paneled tights, but you still need supportive warmth that takes the chill off of your skin.
Sometimes you have to pick and choose between warmth and support, but Castelli starts this bib with the tried and true Progetto X2 Air chamois to support you from the bottom up. Multi-density foam is layered with 4-way stretch seamless fabric to create a supportive base, and variable thickness with perforated inserts to set you up for hours in the saddle. With ample sit bone support, the chamois offers you the relief you need for hours in the saddle, and excellent moisture transport to wick away sweat ensuring dry comfort on long rides.
With elements on the Castelli Omloop bib shorts, the upper portion sees offset seams on shoulders for reduced chaffing, a mesh back panel for breathability, and wide, flexible straps to disperse the pressure. The mesh back panel is ideal for keeping you comfortable, since it enables you to regulate your temperature by opting for appropriate base layers, rather than being forced to roll with heavy insulation when you don't need it.
Moving down from the top, we're happy to find the same Thermoflex fabric that we've seen before on Sorpasso bib tights, with its soft and fleecy backing that feels great against the skin, and gently stretching threads that hold us in. Unlike the Sorpasso, the LW bib tights don't feature Thermoflex Core2 panels, which saves both in weight and heat, but that doesn't mean there isn't anything repelling the elements on the LW.
Because staying warm is best done by staying dry, lower panels on the legs are made up of Castelli's Nano Light fabric, which offers protection from water and wheel spray. Nano Light is unbrushed, unlike the Nano Flex, and has a tighter weave to keep out more moisture. Since it's a little bit heavier than the Nano Flex, it also provides more warmth, making it ideal for cool weather while providing your calves with a smooth hug of muscle support.
