Castelli race bibs at a much lower cost!
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: Runs small
- Size Bought: Medium but could have gone small
First, let's talk about the 800 pound gorilla in the room - Castelli sizing. Yes, if you wear a large in ANY other brand, you'll need an XL in Castelli. They are made for small Italian guys in a Euro sizing, not American sizing.
Now, let's talk about the quality of the shorts themselves. Disclaimer - I'm sponsored by Castelli, though I did NOT get these on discount because of that. I bought them from CC because they offer a great discounted price. That being said, when I went looking for a team, finding one that was sponsored by Castelli was a high priority as they make, IMO, the best clothing by far.
These are identical in cut, material, and padding to my race bibs but at a cheaper price. That price reduction is because you get the Giro colors and logos. Good for me as the Giro is my favorite race and because I like the pink accents!
The chamois is super comfortable - not bulky, but definitely offering good protection. The material is super smooth and feels like second skin. The leg grippers feel loose at first, but when you start riding, they somehow grip perfectly.
I typically used to wear a medium in Castelli bibs and bought the mediums here (and smalls for my son). Well, apparently I've lost weight and will be ordering another pair but in small. (For reference, 5'9" tall, 145 pounds, 31" inseam, 31" waist, 37" chest)
If you're looking for thick shorts with a thick chamois, these aren't them. If you're looking for race cut bibs that have an awesome but invisible feel, these are worth their price (even if you don't like the logos and pink accents).
