More speed.

The Castelli Men's Short-Sleeve Free Sanremo Suit slips stealthily under your wetsuit or stands alone with water-shedding and wind-cheating properties to speed into T1 and beyond. On the bike, its nearly elbow-length sleeves add an extra dose of aerodynamics to slice through the air; on the run, its flatlock seams and tri-specific chamois minimize chafing and restriction for a comfortable stride.

Castelli constructs the Sanremo from SpeedFreak ventilated fabric up top and Instadry Speed fabric across the shorts. These form-fitting materials are fast through the water and, once you are on the bike, shed water quickly. Once dry, the Velocity mesh back not only has been proven as a watt-saver in the wind tunnel, it also helps to move moisture away from the skin to keep you dry and cool. Aiding in cooling and ventilation is the full-length zipper, which opens the top of the suit like a standard bike jersey. You can adjust just how much airflow you desire, and it makes pit stops during ultra-endurance races much less time-consuming affairs.

To minimize chafing, Castelli includes its tri-specific KISS Tri Seat Pad, a lightly padded insert that dries quickly after the swim. It's thick enough to support you during that 100-plus mile bike leg, but thin enough that you won't even feel it during the marathon. The Free Sanremo suit is finished with back pockets to hold all of your race day nutrition.

Great Suit

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This suit worked great. I purchased the white top version. I think for my skin complexion I am switching to the black version. I have brown skin and the upper was a little revealing before even getting wet. I used it for the first time during a 140.6 race. People advise against it but I wanted to check it out in an actual race. The suit worked great while I wore it in an ocean swim during the race. I had a speed suit on over it but it did not change in compression despite being wet. It stayed true to form. On the bike it worked awesome! The pad was great for the 112 mile bike ride and was not noticeable during the run. The rear pockets held all my nutrition I needed to carry. They are a good size. Some reviews complained of chafing from the zipper but I had zero issues. I love the full zipper which allowed me to unzip as much as I wanted to stay cool on the run and I had to go to the rest room a couple times and it was not too bad taking it on and off. The suit had a cooling affect when I sprayed myself with cool water. Zero chafing on the bike and run even when soaking myself with water during the hot race. This fit me well despite my thicker build. I am 178 pounds and 5'-9" tall. I am more of a wrestler build with bigger quads and shlulders than most. It was a little long in the torso for me but not by much. The bottom fit perfect and the leg grips felt awesome and not like it was choking my legs. The aero top was nice and fitting too for aero fit. I like this bottom part so much that I am ordering the shorts with the same setup. (See photo to see how see through it is when wet. It was from the run and you can see my heart rate strap and a wet sponge through the suit)

Top Notch Tri Suit

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Top notch tri suit, with an excellent fit. The rear pockets are just the right size in case you need to carry a couple of gels with you on the run. Tested on a half 70.3 tri and the chamois provides the right amount of comfort during the bike and becomes unnoticeable on the run. Overall, the suit fits like a glove with out any chafing issues. Will update review once I test the suit on a full 140.6 tri.

Almost perfect

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

I like this kit a lot. Very functional for 70.3 distances with ample pad that still disappears on the run. My only criticism is the top of the zipper which has no protection. For me it fall right on the breastbone and can very quickly rub you raw even with tri-slide or other protection. When unzipped the tops of the zippers can also rub on your chest. I realize they want these to be light and functional as possible for all of the complexity of this product a little backing and cover for the zipper would have made it perfect.

Nice tri suit, tricky sizing

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

I really like this tri suit but finding the right size is a compromise for me. I needed a large for the bottom but XL for the upper body. I went with the XL as the L was just too short for my torso and pulled at the crotch. As a result, the XL provide coverage for my legs but no support / compression.
I love the pockets, easily accessible and deep for stashing gels and food. The pad is good for HIM distance and disappears on the run. I decided for the sleeved version because of additional sun protection.

Great Sleeved Suit

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Large

Great product, I have work it for both a sprint and Olympic distants Tri and it was perfect.. The pad is plenty of cousin and the suit clings to the body well. I am not sure the full sleeve made me faster but, it was nice to have the protection from the sun. Have read comments that the zipper may come loose, I haven't had an issue with this..

Unanswered Question

Any idea when more of the white/red in medium will be available?

Question : Castelli Free Sanremo Tri Suit: My sizes: Chest 38"; waste 30" and hip 36.5"... What size should I order, small or medium.. Thanks Joe Carr

Hey Joseph - Based on your measurements, I would recommend a Medium in this Castelli Free Sanremo Tri Suit since your chest is not going to fit in a Small. Feel free to contact me directly with any additional questions.
