Great concept, poorly executed

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it
Size Bought:
XL
Height:
5' 8"
Weight:
145

As other reviews mentioned, these run small, so I ordered two sizes larger (XL) than the size chart indicated (M). I tried to pull them over my Lake size 42 MTB shoes and after 15 minutes I managed to get one of them on. Getting the zipper up the back took another 5 minutes. I was very concerned I was going to tear the fabric, the zipper stitching , etc., as I had to pull very hard to stretch the material over my shoe's tread, over my relatively small ankles/calves, etc. I ordered a Large pair for my wife, even though the size chart indicated a small or medium. I tried the XL size on her shoes, and it went with amount of effort you would expect, but the openings in the bottom for the shoe treads don't line up with her smaller shoes because the XL is definitely designed for a larger shoes like mine. Trying the large size on her shoes was roughly the same nonsense as I had trying the XL on mine - very difficult to get it on over the shoe treads. Too bad, because the material does appear to be excellent in terms of insulation, and I have no doubt these would keep us warm. Maybe on a road shoe they might slip on more easily, but on an MTB shoe with big treads, forget it.

Absolutely Great Shoe covers

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
XXL
Height:
6' 3"
Weight:
180

I have long battled cold toes, and though I had figured out the rest of the gear, my feet were always cold. I even went so far as to buy winter road boots, still cold. Then I bought these shoe covers, and combined with toe warmers (on the top of my toes, strangely they don't work on the bottoms at all for me) my feet and toes are finally warm. I've ridden in temps down to 23F, but the 'feels like' was in the teens. They are warmer than the boots I bought so now I wear my normal road shoes with these on. Love them, they just work. Size 13/47 shoes and XXL fits tight but not too tight. Seems accurate.

Kind of disappointed

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:
Large

These are very warm shoe covers and are of a nice material except for the underside of the toe, after just one ride that portion had a small tear where I missed clipping in which I know everybody probably does every now and then kind of made me sick after what I paid for them so I cut a small piece of intertube and used gorilla glue to patch each one of the toe areas I believe this will help to keep it from tearing further.Castelli needs to make the toe area out of a more durable material. One side note if you wear sidi shoes that have closable vents under the toe area be aware that the vent will eventually wear a hole in the underside of the toe area,I fixed this by removing the entire vent and sealing up with a piece of duct tape works much better.

Warmest shoe covers I've found

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
XXL
Height:
5' 11"
Weight:

I wear size 47 shoes (with dual boas) and size XXL Estremo fit really nicely on them: no wrinkles but not excessively tight. So far have used them down to 29F and they have worked fine, not even a hint of chilly feet despite wearing just DeFeet wool blend Cyclismo socks on my feet. It may help that I use orthotics which block the air vents in the soles. Next question is how high the temp can be without having my feet get too hot in them! The temp usually rises quite a bit while I am out on my morning rides. Alas the Estremos are available only in black, wish Castelli would make them in brighter colors for visibility on gloomy winter days. Got some USB-rechargeable blinking red LED lights with clips which I fasten to the tops of the Estremos at the back: EverLight FX by Apace, sold on Amazon for $25 a pair, LONG battery life on flash mode.

too tight on calf

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it
Size Bought:
medium
Height:

Weight:

I ordered a set of medium shoe covers as they should have fit my shoe (men's shoe size 41.5-42). They easily got over the my road shoes, but are too tight to be able to zip up on the calves if wearing anything other than a super thin sock. Not feasible for riding with winter tights. Might want to order a size bigger if you are at the upper end of the size

Too small

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I wear a size 45 shoe, I'm a slender guy, and yet I could not even get the size XXL to fit over my shoe, no matter how hard I stretched it. I even tried to pull it over the shoe without the shoe on my foot. Ridiculous. This seems to be a theme with Castelli products.

WARM

Familiarity:

These are the warmest shoe covers I have found. With the aid of wool socks, they keep my feet warm even in temperatures in the 30's. I haven't ridden in temperatures below freezing so I can't rate them for colder temperatures. I have the largest size and they fit my shoes (47.5 extra wide) fine. The zipper in the back of the cover makes them easy to put-on over my shoes. They allow more than enough room for my cleats. I haven't found them to last any longer, or less long, then other brands. I can usually get one season+ from them. I live in Southwest Washington state and generally need them late fall unit early spring. If they have a disadvantage, it's probably their high price. I believe it's worth the price for the comfort they provide.
