Emergency Rain Jacket
Castelli knows a thing about wet weather riding. Perhaps that’s why you’ll see many riders in the professional peloton wearing non-team-issue Castelli Gabba jackets during the spring classics. It is a piece of material that does such a wonderful job of keeping riders dry, yet breathes so well, many top class athletes will eschew their standard team-issue kit and reach for the Gabba. For rides when we don’t need a full blown rain jacket or are about to head out on a ride under ominous skies comes the Castelli Emergency Rain Jacket.
Castelli’s intimate knowledge of keeping riders dry and comfortable is reflected in this design. While Castelli makes no bones about the fact that the breathability is not quite up there with their other jackets, they are also quick to point out that it’s not built to be an all-day rain jacket, rather one made for its namesake. Sometimes training plans might dictate having to go out on a day when the weather is questionable. The jacket can be folded into half a jersey pocket, which is great when you don’t need it, and features like Deluge Light 2.5-layer fabric with 10,000mm waterproof rating and innovative gutters to drain water away from hands and off the back are fantastic when you do. Go ahead and channel your inner Flahute; forgo the weather report and pack the Emergency Rain Jacket.
- Lightweight and packable jacket in case you get caught out
- Waterproof fabric keeps the rain out
- Waterproof zips and seams block moisture entering vulnerable areas
- Good on-the-bike fit keeps you covered and dry
- Masters of the wet weather riding gear, Castelli delivers another winner

Note on Sizing
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit:
- Runs small
- Size Bought
- L and XL
- Height
- 5` 11"
- Weight
- 185 lbs
Haven't tested live, but just wanted to provide feedback on sizing. I'm 5'11", 185, average build, and the Large fits me snug but comfortable, similar to a race cut, IMO. The XL fit well also, but more loose if you like casual cycling comfort. The waterproofing seems to be very capable after testing in the shower. Sleeves are long, but that's better than being too short. Great jacket for the intermittent weather.

Packs in a pocket, fits very well. No flapping material, excellent wind breaker if you just need to avoid a late afternoon chill on a descent, excellent rain jacket. Love it! Midday temps were low 60s, with low 50s along the coast. Then descending from Mt Tamalpais around 4:30pm (winter time) it had dropped to mid-40s. I wasn't dressed for that at all, and so pulled on this jacket and it was just perfect. Also a helmet rain cover to shut down all ventilation. Also wore it on a couple drizzly descents to the coast that while not super wet will result in a good soaking over time. Great jacket. Love it!

I purchased this jacket in red in 2XL after completing a good amount of research. I wanted a compact, packable jacket to block wind and light rain. This jacket is perfect for both! I have used it twice in the last month during rides with temps in the 50s - 60s. It has kept me warm because it blocks wind well. It layers well with a long sleeve jersey and scrunches up in the pocket easily. The only set back is the length of the sleeves, which cover my hands past the knuckles. I bet size L would have been fine, but Castelli runs small. I'm fine with a looser fit.

As the fall weather rolls in, I decided to upgrade my rain gear. I wanted something more than a light wind jacket, I was looking for a true rain jacket. I wanted something light weight that I could easily carry in my jersey pocket. The Castelli Emergency Rain Jacket is "just right". Light weight, easy to roll up and tuck in my jersey. Lucky for me (I suppose) I was able to test it out almost immediately after receiving it during a 100k ride, when the weather/rain rolled in with about an hour to go. The drizzle turned into a full on rain and the Castelli Emergency Rain Jacket held up just fine. When I arrived at my car and pulled off the jacket, my upper body was dry! Great light weight rain jacket that does the job! Good color selections. I purchased the Red. I am 6'0" tall 193lbs. (44 chest) and purchased the 2XL. I would recommend the product. Also, Competetive Cyclist is a great place to shop!!

Runs small - I am a big guy (men XL) and had to take 3XL. Good fit, long in the back, took the red for good visibility in bad weather - a perfect ride companion. Obviously, this will keep you dry from the outside while you sweat in this non-breathable jacket on the inside, but that is what it is for.

I've used this jacket 3-4 times and it has lived upto the name. With one of those rides in a down pour and 42 degree, it blocked the wind and rain completely and decent covered from rear wheel spray too. I like the fit to be slightly loose for layering and movement. I could use an L but prefer XL, normally I'm a medium, they do run small. The bright red is excellent for visibility.

I'll be brief. Pros: lightweight, packable to 1/2 of a jersey pocket, drains well, comfortable, dries quickly. Cons: will get hot on warmer days, lacks a single pocket, "You fat Americans sizing", made in China not Italy. Otherwise, it has worked well for both planned and unplanned wet rides. A pocket would get 5 stars.

Nice Piece. Just not the right fit.
- Fit:
- Runs small
Jacket has some nice detail to help the rain drain from the jacket without running onto the hands. Yellow version is beyond bright. Just didn't fit my build very well and the next larger size would be too big. Had to send back but certainly is worth your consideration if in the market for a rain jacket.

Compact, you can carry it in one jersey pocket. Good for light rain, not for strong rainy conditions. The yellow color is very bright, it ensures drives can spot you on the road.

Hi Kelly, what size chest do you have? I have a 42" chest, 6'2" tall 32" waist and 165 lbs. not sure if the Large will be ok. I like a good aero/race cut but don't mind if its a hair lose

I bought this in preparation for a century that was likely to see afternoon showers, in stead I use it as a windbreaker on a thirteen mile descent in temps about the 45F mark, I continued to wear until about mile 25 when the temps had soared up about thirty degrees now that we were in the arid deserts of New Mexico. It breathes remarkably well and is completely windproof but didn't completely fry me in the rising temperatures.
