Conquer winter cycling.
Winter riding isn't for fair-weather cyclists, and those who do brave the challenging mix of rain, wind, and cold temperatures brought on by the winter months know that to actually get out the door, they need a jacket that functions well and fits the right way. Castelli agrees, and it's brought back the Women's Elemento 2 7x(AIR) Jacket to serve that purpose: offering the adaptable construction of the Alpha jacket combined with the lightweight, incredibly versatile 7x(AIR) fabric, the Elemento will block out winter's worst while feeling more like a lightweight knit than a full water and windproof winter jacket.
As we mentioned, Castelli starts with its 7x(AIR) fabric when constructing the Elemento, which is what sets the jacket apart from other offerings. The quilted fabric is able to block out wind and water while remaining permeable to air, unlike the Windstopper fabrics Castelli uses in other jackets—which helps it transfer moisture faster and facilitate ventilation. While the outside of the fabric resembles a cable knit sweater, the inner layer is a soft, insulating microfleece, and WindShear panels on the arms and shoulders add protection to the areas of your body that are most vulnerable to wind.
Like the Alpha jacket, Castelli's lighter winter option, the front of the Elemento features a zipper closure that allows you to separate the windproof outer layer from the thermal inner layer. Take advantage of this feature on a long, tough climb to stay cool and dry without exposing your skin to icy air, and when you reach the top, zip back up for a warm and dry on the descent.
In typical Castelli fashion, the jacket includes a few extra finishing touches to further enhance ride quality, like an articulated fleece collar that stays in place as you ride, and raw-edge wrist cuffs that easily fit under gloves and block out the cold. Three rear pockets as well as a zippered security pocket allow you to carry a range of essentials out on your rides, and reflective tabs encourage visibility during winter's extra hours of darkness.
- An extreme winter cycling jacket for the trainer-averse
- Material blend blocks the elements and promotes breathability
- Insulation and shell unzip independently for targeted protection
- Flat, raw-edge cuffs slip discreetly under gloves
- Silicone hem reduces bunching across the stomach
- Three open and one zippered security pocket
- Reflective tabs help maintain visibility in low-light conditions

Good winter jacket,
- Fit: Runs small
vents well, like the liner and three back pockets. Runs a little small, but i guess thats standard/on point for this brand. The sleeves are really long like for a long limbed Italian model (i'm 5'3" so, im used to this). my primary objection is to the left handed pocket on the torso. I guess i'm so used to being a right handed person in a right handed world that having the pocket on the reverse side threw me. i have a greater appreciation for what left handed people experience every day.
Great winter jacket!
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: XL
I have a hard time staying warm during winter cycling. My jackets in the past haven't breathed enough and I get too sweaty - then cold. This jacket is perfect, it vents so nicely that it keeps your base layer dry so you stay toasty without overheating. The two part liner in front is perfect because you can unzip if you feel warm without getting blasted by cold air. I wore it for a 48 deg ride with just a short sleeve Craft base layer and it was great. Can't wait to try it in colder weather. Fit was exactly what size chart said. Fit is snug but not tight there is still room for a base layer.
is this waterproof? doesnt seem like it
This is not fully waterproof, since waterproof apparel does not breathe enough for high output activities like cycling. It is very water and wind resistant, however.
Great cold weather cycling jacket
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: Runs small
- Size Bought: Medium
I agree with everything the first reviewer said. The two part system of the jacket makes sense and works. This jacket is a significant improvement in terms of fit over its predecessor. I had initially purchased the predecessor jacket from backcountry/competitive cyclist, but it was too short for me. I returned it. I am not tall, 5' 100 lbs, 34c. However, just about every castelli shirt and jacket is too short in the front and back for me. Who wants their skin or underlayers exposed particularly in cool and cold weather? Well Castelli finally fixed the length problem in this jacket. I purchased it in medium, and its length is perfect. Castelli also runs small, so if you are between sizes or want to further layer under the jacket, I recommend sizing up. I am normally a small to medium in cycling tops. As indicated previously, I purchased the medium. The jacket is pricey but worth it.
Best winter jacket ever
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size

I bought this jacket bc I have poor circulation and typically can't cycle below 50 degrees. This jacket is the best piece of clothing I own. It allows me to bike in sub 30 degrees without a problem (which is a big deal for me). Super breathable and comfortable, you forget you're wearing a winter jacket. I highly recommend this jacket, especially to people with circulation issues
