Ready for the deluge.

When it's really coming down — and especially when it's really cold out — the taller cuff of a shoe cover can be the difference between a happy ride and a crappy ride. The Castelli Diluvio 16 Shoe Covers have 16cm cuffs, and their three millimeter-thick neoprene has thermosealed seams to block water, with cleat and heel cut-outs below to make walking a little easier. Reflective details make you more visible after the sun goes down on those short winter days, too.

Second pair

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

These are going to be my second pair, only reason im replacing the origional is because i wrecked and ripped through the covers. all in all they keep my little piggies warm during those dreadfull winter rides.

Love these shoe covers. Easy on and off, keep me warm but not too hot. Keep my feet dry in all but the nastiest of weather, when water running down my leg gets my feet wet. I've used these for 3 winter seasons now and they still work great.

Plenty warm, but

I know they're not meant for walking, but of course you'll have to, whether it's walking your bike after reaching your destination or maybe making a pit stop during a ride, so the bottoms of the booties have started to wear. The front has some holes, just in front of the cleats and the bottom middle part has some holes from debris on the ground poking through. I coated the bottoms with neoprene glue and that's helped a little.

Very good all around shoe cover

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I have used them heavily over the past 2 winters, and this is my 2nd pair in order to have a backup. They fit true to size, and are very warm. However, they don't breathe well so its easy for moisture to build up and make your feet clammy by the end of the ride. But they keep the rain out of your shoes until you've been soaked, and once everything is wet the neoprene still managed to keep me warm even on the coldest and wettest of rides. The only knock is that the brushed interior gets stuck on the velcro of my shoes and it has created a pilling/fuzzing effect. It hasn't affected function yet, but I can see it eventually wearing through the cover. That said, my first pair has been going strong for 2+ years now.

Good for winter riding and training

I've used these shoe covers all last winter, and for the first half of this winter. I commute daily, and also am a road bike racer - they have served well for all my needs, and I would recommend them. You can see my full review with photos here:

Would these work with mountain bike shoes?

I use them happily with shimano xc90 shoes.

Classic winter booties

Castelli is based in the foothills of the Italian Alps (Dolomites); they understand Winter cycling.

These booties are great for cold weather cycling and will keep your feet warm down to about 35° F (with quality wool socks and bibtights of course).

    Main points:
1.) The 16 cm height is for warmth (and looks). Neoprene is water-resistant and the central seam is thermosealed. Nice.
2.) These also feature a waterproof zipper and zipper garage. The zipper garage keeps the zipper from flopping up & down on each pedal stroke (and from snagging on your tights). Hi-viz strip down back.
3.) On really long, wet rides, these will eventually "wet through" but your feet will stay warm (like when using a wetsuit in the ocean).

Tip #1 for riding in the rain: If you need *total* rain-proofness (not sure it exists) wear a +1 size Velotoze over these.

Tip #2 for riding in the rain: Water spray from the front wheel can work its way up through the vent holes in the bottom of road shoes (if your shoes have them). Tape those vents up with duct tape on wet days or your socks will get soaked from the bottom.

Tip #3 for riding in the rain: During dry cold rides, everyone tucks their bibtights into their booties of course. On long rainy rides, however, I recommend wearing your bibtights -over- your booties. Otherwise rain will eventually seep down your bibtight fabric to your socks and soak your feet. Cold, wet, feet are awful.

    Diluvio sizing:
    36-40: SM/MD
    41-44: L/XL
    45-48: XXL

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The Diluvio 16's are nice and tall shoe covers that provide plenty of warmth in freezing weather. They also keep the rain out in soggy conditions. The only downside, they do not breath extremely well. So your feet may be a bit sweaty at the end of your ride.

    Castelli Diluvio 16 shoe covers

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Had high hopes for these shoe covers. After about 5-7 rides wear holes appeared in the base of the shoe covers which have continued to get bigger with each subsequent use. Very disappointed in the build quality of this product and had hoped for better from Castelli. At least they look good

    Tore hole in nose

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Size chart lists L and XL bit pruduct comes L/XL. I wear sixe 11 so it should have fit even though on the outer limit. Exchangingfor XXL. Last pair was great but stolen via car break in.

what temp range is this rated for?

Castelli rates the Diluvio 16 winter booties for use in 32 to 55* F weather. Wear good wool socks in colder weather.
