Description

Why We Like The Competizione Limited Edition Bib Short

With the Competizione Bib Shorts, pro-level Castelli quality need not come at a pro-level price tag. The Competizione features much of the same technology as their higher-end offerings, like a KISS Air2 insert and Giro4 leg grippers, making it comfortable for long and short rides alike. The main panels use Castelli’s Vortex fabric for optimal breathability and comfort, while the bibs are a more open mesh to ventilate well beneath a jersey. Castelli uses a tighter Lycra for better compression, stretch, and rebound, where there’s more movement when pedaling. The KISS Air2 insert’s perforated padding and seamless upper keeps cool air moving through the short to ensure your comfort on the bike.

  • A bib with pro-level comfort at self-sponsored pricepoint
  • KISS Air2 chamois provides comfort for long and short rides
  • Affinity Pro Lycra offers stretch and rebound needed for optimal comfort
  • Mesh bib upper breathes well and supports

I'm a big Castelli fan. I have many jerseys and bibs from them. These bibs are 4" shorter than my other Castelli bibs. I'm 5'10" 160# and the large size were super tight in the shoulders. So sad. It makes me question buying more Castelli products. These were a swing and a miss... plus I have to pony up the $7 to return them :(.

These bibs are a great value, especially when CC has them on sale. They have a typical Castelli fit, which is very form-fitting, which I prefer. They’re light and breathable, especially the bib straps, but those straps may be too snug for taller riders. The leg grippers work well, without any binding, and the highly perforated chamois is fantastic, which is the key to comfort on long rides. Unlike many other reviewers, I did not “size up” two sizes. The size chart had me as a Large, I ordered the large, and the fit is perfect. I would recommend going up a size if you’re between sizes, but an XL or XXL would have been way too big on me. As others have noted, the thin, breathable straps are delicate, I always launder my bibs in a zippered mesh bag, so the straps don’t catch on anything and tear.

Really comfortable bibs for 2-4 hour rides. The thigh grips stay in place and are comfy. Shoulder straps are supportive, if delicate. Wash gently in cold water with limited detergent and hang dry to get the longest life. Size up 2x over what you normally wear. I had to get an XL, which gave me a bit of a complex. :-)

the bibs run 2 sizes small... i normally get a medium, but i could barely get into the large and the straps were digging into my shoulders. the XL fit much better and i didn't look or feel like a sausage. i'll update this after i put a few hundred miles on them

I have been using Castelli bibs for a few years. Like the others the kiss pad is great. I have yet to have a painful ride do to this pad. I’m 5’11 around 200 lbs. My other pairs are XL’s. I paid attention to the other reviews and ordered this model in XXL. They fit like the other XL’s. They look, feel and work great. I would order another pair without hesitation.

I've got one ride in these bibs and am very happy with the comfort. Thanks to all those to recommended sizing up. I recommend 1-2 sizes above what you normally would use. I'm 6', ~200lbs and I needed the 2xl. Despite the blow to my ego of being a 2xl, I found the bibs very comfortable in length. The chamois was just the right blend of padding and being firm. The leg bands keep the bibs in place without moving around or being noticeable. I'm very pleased and will be looking to another set in the near future.

I agreed with this review.

I really like these bibs. I've owned Castelli in the past and am still wearing them years later. Durable! I read a lot of reviews on these, which was helpful, but not! Most everyone said if your around 165-175 in weight, or would wear a medium in the USA get an XL, as they run two sizes small. I disagree. I'm 168 and overall the fit was good but not tight enough in the ends of the leg. Loose. I don't have big legs, but I want compression throughout and a good fit at the end of the short, as the grippers were useless because of the looseness. Returned for a size Large, which is what I own from Castelli already. Don't be fooled. It is a European fit, but the size difference in a US fit is a single size, not 2 sizes.

The other reviews ARE right! Runs small. I have been wearing various Castelli bib shorts in XL size for over 20 years, but this model was pretty darn tight overall, and the shoulder straps seemed to be about 2 inches shorter than usual. After wearing other bibs that have flat elastic straps these bother me as they don’t seem to lay flat, but instead have a tendency to roll up a bit, maybe that is because the straps seemed too short on me? Other than running smaller than Castelli I’ve had in the past it seemed like great quality. Looks great. I returned them without using them. The Customer service to return was great.

Don't doubt any of the previous reviews about size, runs small. I"m 6'1 190lbs 32" inseam, bought a 2XL still a little squeeze getting the straps over the shoulder but very comfortable once it was adjusted. The Chamois felt real good. I doubt I could have gotten an XL on. Happy with the purchase!

This is my first piece of Castelli kit and my first bib short. All my other shorts are the traditional waist shorts. I am 5’-11” and weigh 170 lbs. I wear 32” waist jeans and most people consider me pretty thin, particularly at my age (63). I would normally wear a medium short in PI or other brands. Luckily I read the reviews and upsized to an XL. The XL barely fits. It is extremely tight in the legs and the straps are a bit short and tight over the shoulder. I probably should have upsized to XXL, crazy right? I have used on two rides, 30 and 45 miles, and was not uncomfortable once I got moving. I’m making the assumption that they will stretch out as I use them. I hand wash and rack dry all my kit and it lasts a long time. I still have one pair of PI shorts made in the USA 30 years ago still going strong. Hopefully these Castelli will hold up well. Complaints about size aside, I love the multi-color stripes on these shorts. I’m all about being visible to motorists so always wear bright jerseys and other kit, but all my other shorts are black. Taking one star off for mis-sizing, but overall I like the shorts so far.

they're very nice. wish i would have read the reviews. my own fault. i'm normally a medium so that's what i ordered and they're so tight i feel like they're going to rip every time i put them on.

Do you think that large would be just right for your size?

I’m the same height/weight as you. Did you go to a size large? And did they fit correctly?

Although I have a bunch of Castelli tops this was the first time I have used their bibs. Ordered a large, which fits snug. Seems to fit me really well. Love the pad. Also love the color as it kind of matches my bike and the top that I also purchased.

Sure I had to order a size up from my Castelli shorts but that doesn't bruise my ego. Especially not with the comfortable padding and the mesh shoulder straps. I like the grip on the legs that keeps the material in place without being too tight or noticeable after hours of riding. I wear these on my longest rides now.

I read reviews that said to order up a size, so I did. I would say that ideally I should have ordered a XXL which is ridiculous. I’ll keep the XLs, but I can already tell that these won’t be my go to bibs for a long ride. Tight in the groin area and the shoulder straps dig in. My Pearl Izumis and Garneau are definitely more comfortable. The only thing I can say is they do look nice and I like the feel of the padding.

The Castelli brand is made and sized for a fit/athletic build. Pearl Izumis & Garneau are "american sizing".

Bought these as a gift for someone who would wear a M in most bike shorts, pants. Of course being a Euro fit , these run small. Went to a L, too tight in the bib/suspenders , XL ended up being the size, with still tight around the legs, good fit, bib/suspender slightly longer/more forgiving.

Amazing quality and color. The material is high end and the chamois sits where it needs to be. The grip around the leg is fantastic. Unfortunately the fit is very small. I’m 5’8 170lb got size L. The compression in the groin is too much. Also could barely put the straps over my shoulders. Go one or two sized bigger.

I have always wore cycling shorts, this is my first pair of bibs and I am beyond impressed. Fit is very comfortable for hours of riding with no hot spots. Thinking of buying a couple more.

I'm 6ft. @ 177 lbs and needed an XL.
