You were worried that you'd missed out on the argyle Castelli awesomeness with the team under a new clothing sponsor for 2017, but we're here to keep your legs covered in style with Castelli's Cannondale Men's Volo Bib Short. Billed as utility race shorts, these are the same construction as your favorite pro's training kit, falling somewhere between the Endurance X2s and the beloved Free Aero Race bib shorts in the Castelli hierarchy of kit. Since the Volos are both compressive and aerodynamic, we can only assume that the workhorse racer label refers to their durability — a valued quality for those who likes their shorts to last longer than one race.

The legs are a blend of Affinity Lycra and Affinity BLC fabrics, both of which increase the shorts' affinity for keeping you comfortable and warding off fatigue with their high stretch on the inner thighs, aerodynamic texturing on the outer thigh, and gentle compression throughout. And unlike many other offerings that share a tier with the Volo Bib Shorts, the Affinity legs are finished with Castelli's Giro Air leg band. This wide swath of material keeps the fit secure without resorting to the usual tricks: pinching elastic inserts and silicone grip print that wears off in the laundry.

The shorts are finished with a KISS Air chamois, which takes the less-is-more approach for unobtrusive, non-bulky comfort. The ischial zone gets the lion's share of dual-density padding, while a relieving channel protects the sensitive perineum. The padding tapers to a clean finish at the edges, eliminating seams and ridges created by sudden topographical changes.

  • Fly your favorite team's colors with this training-focused bib short
  • Supportive fabrics reduce fatigue over long miles
  • Comfortable leg bands hold hems securely without pinching
  • Flat-lock stitching minimizes chafing
  • Multi-density chamois provides comfortable support
  • Reflective accents increase visibility to others

Graphics could be sharper

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

They run a tad small but overall work just fine. Graphics could be improved.

Nice bibs, but run small

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs small

I really like the quality of these bibs, but they definitely run small. Plan to order at least on size up.

Best bibs in this price range (On Sale).

I was a little hesitant to order these after reading some of the reviews, but for the price I decided to give them a try. I sure am glad I did.
The bibs fit great, right out of the bag. The fabric was thin, but sturdy and well made. The elastic used on the thigh is about the most comfortable I've ever worn. The Kiss chamois is thick, yet firm so it felt great on the saddle without that sliding around feeling.
My first use was on a 2 1/12 hour ride on a 90 degree day and I didn't have a single complaint about how these bibs felt or held up during the ride.
I'm 6'3" with a 32" waist and the Large fit perfectly. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another pair or two.

Cheap Fabric

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Small

These shorts bunched more than others due to the fabric used. It felt thicker and less comfortable than the fabric used on the Free Aero shorts and the straps had a similarly unforgiving feel. I returned them and bought another pair of Free Aero we say around here, treat yo self.

really nice pro style bibs but WAY small

  • Fit: Runs small

Super nice bibs but order larger. I'm a 34 mabye 35" (winter) waist typically and L size in bibs / shorts. The L i could barely get on, the XL is still too tight. Ordering the XXL and hoping they aren't too long in the inseam and fit everywhere else.
