Description

Why We Like The Alpha RoS 2 Jacket

If you aren’t easily swooned by indoor training during winter, the Alpha RoS 2 provides a feature-heavy barrier against nature’s bite, ensuring the miles are logged even in the harshest conditions. Continuing Castelli’s impeccable lineage of inclement weather, performance clothing, the Alpha RoS 2 gets a double-layered Alpha construction comprising an inner insulation layer and outer Gore-Tex Infinium wind and water barrier. The layers provide protection down to 23 degrees F as well as superior wind and water resistance to brace against pocket showers or a ride-long drencher.

Castelli manages to engineer subtle and effective traits into the Alpha RoS 2 that, at first glance go unnoticed, but act as welcomed finishing touches you’ll appreciate during mixed weather riding. Further adding to the comfort and warmth characteristics are the high neck, which prevents cold air rushing on the chest, and the double layer cuffs that seal out water and wind and allow for expert fitting under gloves. A water-resistant zipper and taped shoulder seams seal out areas that are prone to water ingress, while discreet back flaps vent out heat to maintain comfort on rides up to 50 degrees F and during intense interval sessions. Castelli adds drainage holes to the pockets, which provide an extra dose of security compared to the mesh openings of previous jackets, and a zipper side-pocket corrals valuables for the long haul.

  • Winter-ready cycling jacket faces the elements in comfort and style
  • Double layer Alpha construction insulates and shields from nature’s bite
  • Gore-Tex wind and water barrier also provide stretch in riding position
  • Water-resistant zipper and double-layer cuff discourage water entry
  • Upper-back venting channels manage heat buildup while training
  • Reflect drain holes on pockets won’t slow you down
  • Rated from 23-50 degrees F

I rode with this jacket for the first time and found it to be very warm at 32F for 2 hours. Very good quality construction. As many have said, the size runs very small so a 2XL fit my usually L body. I would buy this jacket again.

My husband (6’ 0”; 174 lbs.) loves the Castelli brand. As it is European sizing a Large is always a good fit. Not so with this jacket. I purchased a Large, but need to exchange it for an XL. He needs an XL because the chest is too tight. Other than that, absolutely gorgeous jacket. He says the jacket is perfect for 3 season wearing in New England. Also, a shout out to Corbin at Competitive Cycling. He made the return and exchange on sizing effortless.

This is my new favorite 40° jacket. (And maybe 30°). I was a bit apprehensive of the price. This is not a cheap item but it was well worth the money. I was easily able to ride without a base layer or vest when the temp was 39 at the start and 49 at the end. No excessive sweating. No freezing at the start. The built in vest is awesome. Just open it when it warms up a little and presto no overheating. The windstopper technology works wonders. It was 39° bute here was a 15 mph head wind so windchill made it feel much colder. No discomfort. The high collar is nice also. No need to a gator. Sleeves are long enough to come down to the gloves. I suspect I’m going to wish the were vents in the sides like some other Castelli jackets I have but its not a deal breaker. I bought a medium and it fits well except I could use about one inch longer in the body. That said I have a slightly longer torso for people my height (5’ 10”) so this might be something for others to consider. Overall I am extremely impressed with this jacket.

This jacket performs! I’ve had it out in the low 30s with just the Castelli Flanders base layer and wasn’t either too hot or cold. It does it’s job wicking the sweat away and keeps you dry. It has kept me comfortable on cold days so far. Look forward to riding all winter with this! I’m 5’ 6” and 173lbs and this jacket definitely runs small. I have the xxl and it fits perfect.

I had the alpha ros (?) version from a year or two ago, and my expections were moderate for this jacket. I simply wanted an upgrade, the price was great and it appeared more streamlined. Turns out it is much improved, more aero, the green color is a nice change from the orange (I still use a rear taillight) and it fits more like an athletic cut. The first ride it was 25 degrees outside and I only had this jacket and a base layer and it was comfortable. For reference, I am 5'11" 195 lbs, waist 33 arm lenght 34", and muscular. I purchased the XL and it fits great. Highly recommended and the color is a welcome change!

Thanks for the great info on weight, measurements, etc.! Very helpful for sizing correctly, wish everyone did this!

I’ve used this jacket down to around 30 F both road and mountain biking. it’s kept me warm and comfortable with just a wool base layer underneath. For sizing I’m 5’10” and 150 lbs and the medium fit is spot on. Not too tight like my assos jackets but not at all loose or baggy. I wear a size medium top across multiple cycling brands. This is the first time I’ve tried castelli (most of my stuff is assos or Rapha), but I am very impressed.

Beautifully made jacket, seals you in from every angle to remain warm and toasty while feeling light and mobile. The wind rolls off this jacket, and you’ll feel faster immediately. Lightweight, flexible and tight fitting. It’s supposed to be snug and tight, it is shorter in the front so don’t be thinking you have the wrong size.

Jared, I size M but all my Castelli gear is XL. I am surprised the jacket fits you well in size L ?? I am 6', 170lbs, 40' chest . so you make me hesitating what size to order. Can you comment further on the fit?
