Shield those spinning legs.
Known as "The Race of the Falling Leaves" due to its fall time slot each year, the Giro di Lombardia is a one-day Classic that's often accompanied by unpredictable weather conditions. Capo designed its new Lombardia collection as a tribute to the storied event, with every piece of apparel built to block out the elements and keep you spinning away in comfort late in the season. The Lombardia DWR Roubaix Bib Shorts stand in as the tideal lower body layer for these conditions, as they keep you going when Mother Nature decides to show her true fall colors.
Capo constructed the Lombardia using its proven DWR-coated Thermo Roubaix fabric. With a warp-knit construction, this material has a natural stretch. Within the knit, the threads follow a zig-zag pattern along the length of the shorts. This allows more surface area coverage while using less material, equating directly to an airy, lightweight construction. Thermo Roubaix's open weave also accelerates moisture transfer from the skin to the quick-drying surface of the bib shorts, but the precise brushing process is what contributes most to its warmth. After the dying process, dedicated machines perform a brush to the inner-lining that provides a high, fleecy, and warming loft.
The bib shorts' uppers received Capo's super lightweight V-Mesh 360. This open mesh fabric is highly elastic with a supple texture that provides unmatched comfort, support, and freedom of upper body movement. This creates a vertically stable system that stays securely in place along your shoulders throughout your ride.
The chamois incorporated into the Lombardia shorts is Capo's Anatomic-DP Carbon Elastic Interface Technology (EIT) Insert. Capo used high-density, open-cell foam bonded to an antimicrobial microfiber layer that has antimicrobial carbon fiber threads woven through. This effectively aids in moisture evaporation, while also keeping the insert neat and tidy. In addition to the slim, movement-freeing shape, there are 6 and 8mm-thick pads built into the pre-curved profile in order to optimize support on longer rides.
The Capo Lombardia DWR Roubaix Bib Shorts are available in the color Black and in five sizes from Small to XX-Large.

Functional and warm
- Familiarity: I've used it several times
- Fit: True to size
I've ridden with this through a couple of drizzly/rainy rides and found them to be more than adequate. Coupled with Castelli Nanoflex legwarmers, I was comfortable, if not entirely dry. This is DWR gear (Durable Water Repellent), not rain gear, so this is as expected. I will note that the decals come of almost instantly the first time you wash them (I use a wash bag and Assos wash), which I personally don't care much about, but some might find annoying.
In truth, and this will mark me as a bit of a gear snob, I much prefer my Assos T.tiburu_s7 Bib Shorts, which do roughly the same thing and are much more comfortable. Given that the Assos shorts only cost ~$60 more, I'd say you'd be better off buying those. I should have gone with my gut feeling and gone with Assos in the first place.
Plenty of warmth and muscle support
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
Paired with knee and leg warmers, these bib shorts have proven to be a perfect addition to my fall and winter riding kit. The smooth fleece on the interior provides just the right amount of insulation, and the chamois is super supportive. Great product, Capo.
