Description

Whatever the weather.

Riding on slightly damp roads doesn’t require specialized kit, but if you’re regularly spinning for miles through downpours that would make Noah shake his head, well, you’re gonna want Capo’s Lombardia DWR Roubaix Men’s Bib Shorts. Named for a race that’s famed for its, uh, weather events, the Lombardia is made from ultra-stretchy Thermo Roubaix fabric, which has a DWR coating to repel water and a brushed thermal lining to help your thighs stay warm on cold climbs and early spring descents. Thermo Roubaix is woven to move moisture away from your skin no matter how soggy the road is, and the V-Mesh 360 bib provides supple support that can keep you comfortable even when the weather’s miserable.

The Lombardia also benefits from Capo’s Anatomic-DP Carbon Elastic Interface Technology (EIT) insert. That’s a hell of a name, but this high-density open-cell foam creation is actually woven through with carbon threads to speed moisture evaporation and fight off odor-causing bacteria—plus, it goes without saying, carbon makes everything faster.

Functional and warm

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I've ridden with this through a couple of drizzly/rainy rides and found them to be more than adequate. Coupled with Castelli Nanoflex legwarmers, I was comfortable, if not entirely dry. This is DWR gear (Durable Water Repellent), not rain gear, so this is as expected. I will note that the decals come of almost instantly the first time you wash them (I use a wash bag and Assos wash), which I personally don't care much about, but some might find annoying.

In truth, and this will mark me as a bit of a gear snob, I much prefer my Assos T.tiburu_s7 Bib Shorts, which do roughly the same thing and are much more comfortable. Given that the Assos shorts only cost ~$60 more, I'd say you'd be better off buying those. I should have gone with my gut feeling and gone with Assos in the first place.

Plenty of warmth and muscle support

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Paired with knee and leg warmers, these bib shorts have proven to be a perfect addition to my fall and winter riding kit. The smooth fleece on the interior provides just the right amount of insulation, and the chamois is super supportive. Great product, Capo.
