In Defiance Of ALS
Diagnosed with bulbar onset ALS—commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease—Kyle Brown, a Competitive Cyclist Gearhead for eight years, is holding his line against this incurable disease with the spirit and determination he’s known for among his fellow Gearheads and community.
Kyle’s grit came to bear at his most challenging startline yet at this year’s Ironman 70.3 World Championship, held in St. George, UT on September 17. We talked to Kyle about his race training, zest for life, and experience riding with ALS so far. Scroll on to watch the video highlights, and donate to support Kyle and ALS research.

ALS Awareness
The Ironman is known for some of the best displays of camaraderie in sport. In 2005, Jon Blais defied odds and finished Ironman Kona after being diagnosed with ALS, rolling over the line in response to doctors claiming he would need to be rolled over the line in order to finish. In his own race, Kyle honored Jon’s accomplishment by wearing his bib number 179 and performing the legendary Blazeman Roll across this finish line.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is incurable, however with continued support, there is hope that within 5-10 years, patients will survive this aggressive motor neuron disease.
