Record 12 Ergopower Shifters

Campagnolo was the first to bring a 10-speed rear cluster to the road world, then came 11, now it's once again the first to the punch offering 12-speeds. The Record 12 Ergopower Shifters are not only refined for that extra cog, it allows for a wider range without disrupting your cadence with large jumps between the sprockets and it now provides two different lever positions allowing you to adjust the levers to your personal preference and hand size. What wasn't lost on this new shifter is its trademark, dedicated up and downshift levers for positive gear changes in either direction, and its use of Ultra-Shift, providing multiple-cog shifting capacity allowing you to dump up to three harder gears in the sprint and upshift five cogs at a time for easier pedaling while going into the base of a climb hot. Bottom line, these shifters continue the legacy of Campagnolo Record Ergopower with the updates taking it to 12-speeds and securing its spot as the benchmark in which all other mechanical road levers are judged.

Campy worked tirelessly to remove any lag in cable pull while shifting for instant derailleur engagement on the front and rear. As such, shifting is faster and more precise even while under a load. Usually, one of our favorite features with an electronic group is how effortless the front shifting is, however, with the Record's rapid shifting, it makes swapping the chain between the rings easy and intuitive both on the hoods and in the drops. Add in the trim adjustment that lets you use all 24 gear combinations without chain rubbing and you have a serious contender to any electronic system.

Another returning favorite is the Vari-Cushion hoods incorporating varying densities of silicone and a waffle pattern on the inside for additional cushion that takes the sting out of rougher roads. The pebbly texture underneath the hoods, as well as the groove channels at the top, provide plenty of grip and traction with or without gloves and it didn't matter if it was raining out, or if we had sweaty mitts on those extended July climbs.

The levers also feature a distinct and comfy shape, that simply disappear in your hands and is the ergonomic king in our books. Paired with an optimized brake pivot point and signature double curve lever blade for a powerful braking position in the hoods and drops and you have some supremely comfortable levers while shifting, slowing down, or just cruising in the pack.

Compared to Super Record, Record does make some concessions namely using heavier steel and alloy bits instead of titanium. This results in a weight that puts the Record levers close to Super Record, only gaining 24 grams which we'd gladly invest the money saved and put that somewhere where the weight savings would be a lot more meaningful.

Finally, the Campagnolo Record 12 Ergopower Shifters include a full complement of Campagnolo cables and housing. They're only compatible with 12-speed Campagnolo Super Record and Record drivetrains.
