Record 12 Dual Pivot Brakes

Disc brakes on road bikes might be getting all the hype lately, however, rim brakes are very much relevant and are still favored among the pros. And with excellent options like the Record 12 Dual Pivot Brakes from Campagnolo, we're betting that rim brakes will still be around for some time to come. Packing the powerful stopping performance of dual pivots front and rear and updated with clearance for 28mm tires, these brakes will help you build up your lightweight dream bike, with no fear of slowing down on the steepest, longest mountain descents.

The dual-pivot design provides better leverage on both arms to produce more clamping force on the rim's brake track. Additionally, this redesign features a new forged shape that increases the stiffness for better modulation and improved aerodynamics. Campy even claims that these Record brakes have the same performance as its range-topping Super Record model, albeit with a minimal weight penalty that comes from slightly less exotic materials. Those similarities include ball-bearing pivots, orbital pad-holder adjustments, and the special Campagnolo brake pad compound.

The brakes remain the same brake pad holders as its predecessor and updates the graphics to match the aesthetic of the new Record 12-speed drivetrain. Pads are easy to swap if you go between aluminum training wheels and carbon race ones or for just doing maintenance. A small safety tab at the rear of the holders keep the pads from backing out and with a little leverage from a small screwdriver, the pad is easy to remove.

  • Campagnolo Record calipers keeping rim brakes relevant
  • Redesigned for more power and better modulation
  • Bearings at the pivots offer up a super smooth motion
  • Alloy construction shaves grams
  • Orbital adjustment of the pads make for easy setup with low noise
  • Easy to swap pads for different rim materials
  • Clears up to 28mm wide tires

Top quality

I've used it several times

Campy has always produced some of the top quality products in my opinion. One issue I had is that the tire now hit the underside of the caliper. There is a small 2mm screw in the side to adjust centering (shown in 2nd picture), nice feature but it also raises up caliper when you wind it out. I needed to wind this out to get enough clearance. Previous 10 speed calipers and exact same frame, wheel and tire didn't have this issue. There is also a tension adjustment on the other side (shown in first pic). I used default but nice to be able to tailor things for your set up and preference.
