Brooks Mazama Trail Running Shoe - Men's $139.95
Log your miles in the trees.
Pick your way skillfully up loose, rock-laced trails, fly along smooth stretches of singletrack, and dance down steep, technical descents in the Brooks Mazama Trail Running Shoe, and you'll see why this newcomer has earned itself some enthusiastic attention from the running world glossies. With a nearly seamless upper hugging your foot like your favorite pair of socks and a lightweight, responsive midsole, the Mazama yearns for all-day adventures and fast after-work tempos on the trails.
As most running shoes are doing, the Mazama embraces the trend of sock-like uppers. Its stretchy-but-supportive double-layer mesh is breathable, light, and excels at giving your toes space to splay and stretch as you navigate unpredictable terrain. Brooks made an effective choice to uncouple the midfoot from the forefoot and heel; rather than using one continuous piece of foam, it used its BioMoGo DNA cushioning in two separate pieces to give the shoe greater torsional flex. Essentially, this gives you far better control on slick spots and inconsistent bumps. A lightweight propulsion plate underneath the forefoot does double-duty as a light rock plate, so attack sharp rock scatters aggressively knowing the shoe will provide some protection. A versatile 6mm drop suits the Mazama for a broad range of distances and workout, while a gusseted tongue keeps errant rock and gravel from interrupting your stride.
- Light, snappy shoe as eager for your next trail run as you are
- Stretchy, nearly seamless uppers mold to your foot
- 6mm drop adapts easily to a wide range of distances
- Sticky rubber sole hangs onto smooth rock
- Responsive cushioning absorbs impact without bulk
- Propulsion plate under forefoot doubles as rock plate

Great shoe but had to return
- Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
- Fit: Runs large
- Size Bought: 11
So I bought these shoes and tried them on and man did they feel good. Felt really light and walking in them on carpet they felt very much like a road shoe which is exactly what I was looking for. The bad thing for me though h is that I was in-between sizes. The 11 were just a little too big and the 10.5 too small. I've never ran in a Brooks shoe before, so I assume most of their shoes are going to fit me this way. Bummer.
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
Super lightweight shoe, but the plate in the sole offers great protection for super rocky trails and it grips very well. Super comfortable! I have managed to put a few small rips in uppers since the material is so light, but I have gotten some good use out of them (200+ miles). Not even slightly water resistant, which doesn't bug me, but you might want to consider something else if it is a concern. They dry out great. Quality shoe, would buy again.
