Outpost Front World Touring Rack

Pairing the Blackburn Outpost Front World Touring Rack with the rear rack of the same name will increase your carrying capacity by another 45lbs for your next bikepacking trip. The front rack is made of the same lightweight 6061 aluminum as its rear-specific sibling, and it features the same high and low options for pannier mounting. According to Blackburn, the rack is compatible with most standard suspension forks as long as you're using 26in, 29in, or 700c tires.

Balckburn Outpost Front Rack

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Runs large
155 lbs

Mounting on a Trek CheckPoint Carbon gravel bike with through axle and with mid fork and lower mounting points. Really wanted to like this rack, but! it is really wide and the lower mounting point, which is designed for a quick release, doesn't seem to work well any lower mounting point. I ended up cutting the lower axle mount part off and using the adjustable height bracket to bolt directly to the lower fork braze on. This reduced the width by an inch on each side at the lower mounting point, which I like better than if I had mounted it the way it was. However, this makes the rack narrower at the axle than at the top section by about a half inch on each side. I was able to bend the top section a little to reduce the width. After all this the rack fits sturdy and looks descent on the bike. It is well built and light for it's capacity rating. Mounting racks always seems to be a crap shoot of fitting and test mounting before you get the fit you are looking for. I am not 100% satisfied with this rack strictly because of the width as I like racks that keep the panniers as close to center as possible. I had planned to get the Rear Outpost, but after this and reading other reviews about the rear also being wide and angled out at the axle, I am considering something else. Oh, it is powder coated sort of a grey titanium color which look fine with the Grey color of the CheckPoint.

Does not fit Arkel bags, likely others.

I returned this product before using it
Runs small

The outpost racks do not have the low enough attachment point necessary for attaching Arkel and likely most other non-blackburn pannier bags. Super annoying to find this out after spending the time to install. Returning.

What's the max tire width? Will this work on my Salsa Mukluk 3?

Solid Rack

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Just picked one of these up and haven't installed it yet, but the quality looks really good. The size and shape are good and the mounting system is plenty adjustable so I don't anticipate any problems. I like that the mini top rack is removable. For an expedition rack this is relatively lightweight and Blackburn's Outpost series has a lifetime warranty!

Update: this is indeed a sturdy rack. Install is very simple (you'll need to cut some stays to length though). It does run wide, spaced to fit wide mountain tires, so on a gravel bike I do wish it had a slimmer profile.

Rack it n' pack it!

I've used it several times

Sturdy and lightweight, the Blackburn pannier rack is easy to install and does the job! Well worth the extra money over other racks the Outpost rack is not only functional but is stylish also. About to use the front and rear Outpost racks along with my Niner RLT on a 6 day trip on the Divide Trail.
