Brain frame.

If the protective EPS foam is the Bell Super 2 MIPS's heart, then the MIPS layer is its brain. MIPS involves connecting an internal layer to the helmet's shell with flexible bands. This lets the shell and the inner layer move independently of each other, with the shell sliding across the MIPS layer like a tectonic plate across the Earth's asthenosphere. This separate movement effectively dissipates impact forces by redirecting them away from your head, letting the helmet's brain protect your brain.

Other than the inclusion of MIPS technology, the Super 2 MIPS is the same as the regular Super 2. Its In-Mold polycarbonate shell is not only stronger and lighter than most on the market, it extends farther down the back of the head than nearly any competitor. That excellent coverage doesn't compromise weight, however, thanks to copious ventilation that serves to shave grams as much as promote airflow. The four Overbrow vents up front help enormously in this regard, too, keeping the wind moving over your dome seamlessly and consistently so you don't overheat.

The Super 2 also has some playful additions that recommend it for the modern enduro rider. Namely, it's got a break-away camera mount, so neither your camera nor your helmet get too banged up in a crash, and the GoggleGuide adjustable visor's screws are the break-away type, as well, meaning all is not lost if you bail. The Super 2's big party trick, though, is that it's compatible with Bell's 2R chin bar, a detachable protective structure that effectively turns the 2 into a full-face helmet. Ride lifts one day, and set out on an all-mountain epic the next. Whatever you're up for, the Super 2 is down.

  • Enduro, DH, and trail protection for your noggin
  • In-Mold polycarbonate shell and EPS foam for superior impact absorption
  • MIPS technology diffuses oblique impacts to protect against "brain sloshing"
  • Compatible with Bell's 2R chin bar
  • Camera mount and adjustable visor to film your runs and maintain anonymity

For the Super 2 with chin-bar

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

We put our 5.5yo in a size S MIPS super 2R for our lift-assisted downhill vacation to Vail. Even though we planned to keep him on greens and easy blues we had no hesitation in putting him in a full-face helmet. We're glad we did. Some air got into his brakes somehow and mid-way down he had a total failure of rear brake and partial of front brake coming down a fire road. He slide out and bailed and all his armor (comp shirt and full leg guards) including this helmet took some punishment from the road and bike. Not a scratch or bump on him. The helmet itself took several light and moderate hits and it protected our son thoroughly. He got up a little scared, but went right back to the bike. We walked the rest of the way down straight to a good LBS to diagnose and bleed the brakes. We spent the next several days enjoying the mountain, and he refuses to go up the gondola without that helmet now.

He complained of pressure in front and above his ears near his temples at first and then stopped after wearing it in. Then we added the chin-bar and the complaints started again in force. After wearing it in again some though they've stopped.

Weird Fit at First

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This helmet is awesome and my head has never felt safer while biking. The one thing I struggled with was the fit. When trying the medium on I found that it hugged my head great except I had odd pressure points above the ears. There are some dense foam pads right there that were the cause of the problem. I took them off and then replaced them because they appeared to be a little off from where they were supposed to be and that partially fixed the problem. After reading some reviews online this is a common problem for people. Most either took out the pads or let the pads pack out after some riding. I chose the latter option and after a weekend in Moab the pressure points are no longer there and the helmet fits great!

There are rubber pads that can be removed. They were the cause of that unusual pressure on mine as well.

Great design, odd fit.

Im sure this helmet will fit some heads perfectly, for me the large required the back to be cinched all the way down and the medium pressed ever so slightly on my temples, with that said i was able to adjust the thin pads inside to prevent the medium from pressing too hard. Overall this helmet is sweet. It came with a gopro mount for the top that i use for my light mount and it works great. Definitely a good helmet but make sure you compare sizes before making a final decision. My head size is 22 1/8 inches or 56cm

Good protection

As a rider who likes to go as fast as possible, and in sometimes remote areas, I really wanted a helmet that would not only look and feel good but protect me. On that note, I went down super hard the other day on a downhill and nailed my head. I cracked the helmet but walked away with not even a bump on my head. I was 100% ok. I have already ordered another and will never go back from MIPS protection!

    Bell super 2r MIPS helmet

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Purchased this helmet to get more coverage on the back of the head for a recent trip to Sedona for my birthday. The size runs small for sure. I ended up going with the large size and have to say it is working out great. Lots of rocky trails both in Sedona and where I ride in Phoenix. The helmet visor is nice and does help keep sunout of your eyes. I went with the black and blue color and I think it looks great. No complaints so far. Next purchase will be the chin guard. The GoPro mount is a nice feature and works well. Also nice that it is easily removable if needed. One feature I haven't seen other reviewers mentioning is the icedot feature. You enter emergency contact information and if any one finds you hurt on the trail they can either text the PIN number or use the website and they can access your contact info. Might save your life. It is free for a year then you have to pay a subscription to keep it active. Small price to pay for your loved ones peace of mind.
That's me on the left in the attached pic with my brother before we hit the trails in Sedona.

    Bell super 2r MIPS helmet

    Great helmet

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I bought this helmet for down hill biking. I also purchased separately the attachable chin gaurd to go with it. Have not had a major crash with it on but i love how it fits snugly on my head. Also the gopro attachment on top holds your camera perfect.

    Wonderful Helmet

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Weather your going for the full face feature or want a full coverage helmet with MIPS this is a very comfortable, light, and breathable helmet for biking.

    Perfect Helmet

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This helmet is great, I especially love the versatility of it with the attachable chin strap. I got a medium and it fits great, it looks like it isn't very breathable but it is actually very arid and light weight. Only drawback is the chin strap gets tight on my jaw bone for extended rides.
But overally i'd recommend it to all my friends who can't decide if they like cross country or downhill more.

    Not for all sunglasses

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: medium

The Super is a great helmet and I found the fit similar to other medium helmets from Giro and POC. I was looking for a helmet with more rear coverage and was stoked to try out the Super. The only issue that I ran into was that my Rx Oakley Radar sunglasses are too wide for the side of the helmet. Since I co not run goggles on the bike and need the prescription sunglasses for riding, I have not been able to use the helmet much.

    Ran small

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small

My head measures 55cm, and the small was not going to happen, couldn't even get in over the crown of my head. I'm always between S and M for helmets, and based on Bells size chart, I was hoping the small may give a lower profile fit.

    Unanswered Question

I had the Bell Super 2R, but crashed the helmet. The chin bar is fine. I just bought from you the Bell Super 2. The chin bar almost fits, but doesn't. Is there some small piece I am supposed to remove from the Super 2 so that the chin bar fits?

    Bell Helmet

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Have been riding this helmet for 6 or so rides. Previously was using more of an XC type helmet. Bell Super 2 MIPS, felt as though was vented as well as the XC helmet, but it is noticeably heavier. Not heavy per say, but heavier. I think I will quickly acclimate to this helmets more weight, which is a trade-off for the definite feel of more coverage/protection. In general Giro brands have never fit my head as well as Bell and/or UVEX have in the past. This fit well on my head as well.

The adjustment is quick and easy, visor is bigger than past helmets, but actually like the added shade for my face.

Best mountain bike helmet I've owned.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Construction is very good, and let's face it: Bell knows their $#!+ when it comes to helmets. Great fitting helmet; I'm a size 7-5/8 hat and the size L fits my head well. The extra coverage (versus a typical roadie lid) is reassuring without adding too much weight. It is well ventilated. I can feel the MIPS system slide inside the shell when I grab hold of of the shell and tug so this seems to offer extra protection for your brain. My Exposure Diablo light bracket clamps in securely, and the GoPro mount is a good feature for me (since I use a GoPro). The large visor is also a great feature since out here in Arizona we are always seeking shelter from the sun during daytime rides. My boys say it has a little of bit of "Are We Not Me We Are Devo" look to it but I am very satisfied with the graphics and appearance. So yep, I'm gonna' call it perfect, especially for the fair price. Buy with confidence. I can't imagine anyone not liking this helmet as long as it fits properly.

Best mountain bike helmet I've owned.

    Comfortable protection

Picked up this helmet and I am so far pleased. It is comfortable and is ventilated well.

      Does not fit round heads.

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

I bought the Bell Super 2 MIPS in "Large" thinking that it'll fit my round head. But with MIPS, the Super 2 has become oval in shape. I had the previous Super in Large-size, and the fit was perfect. I sold the helmet to a friend who has an oval-ish head.

      Great fitting helmet

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have a odd shaped head and it has been hard to find a helmet that fits comfortably and is also well ventilated. This helmets does both. I have loved this helmet so far and it give me an extra sense of security because of the MIPS. Great coverage!

      Protect your brain matter

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have been riding in this helmet for a little while now, and I can say it is the best helmet I have ever owned. Not only does it fit exceptionally well, it is light and comfortable.

There are plenty of vents, so riding on hot days is noticeably more comfortable. The visor works well with goggles, and the removable camera mount is slick in it's design.

Now on to safety. This helmet meets the EN1078 and CPSC ratings. But the icing on the cake is the MIPS system. MIPS was engineered to reduce twisting forces during an impact, which can reduce the likelihood of a concussion, protecting your most valuable asset.

If you really charge on your enduro bike then you will be pleased to know this helmet can accept a removable chin bar. Snap it in place when you are riding the bike park, or racing down a gnarly line. Then pop it off for those days you plan on riding long distance over a more tamed trail.
