Great Tailgate Pad

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Fit:
True to size

Medium

I use this tailgate pad on my 2020 Tacoma. In my opinion it has the best features and a great price. Metal hooks on the ends of the straps for durability, back up camera flap, grommets for attaching a bike lock, nice thick pads for the bikes, and a large back pocket for storing whatever. Everything seems well thought out and the goat logo looks nice as well. I'm a fan.

Does this tailgate pad work for the 2020 Toyota Tacoma? And would you recommend the medium or large pad?

Hey Mike, I was unable to find the exact details for the 2020 Tacoma tailgate dimensions. Our tailgate pad specs are: M: 54in Long, 19in Wide L: 58.5 Long, 21 in Wide Each will hold 5 bikes. I hope this helps narrow the selection for you!

Does the larger version hold more bikes than the smaller one? Need to hold at least 6.

Hey Adam, The Large and Medium both hold 5 bikes.

Would this tailgate pad be a good option for a carbon fiber frame? I just got a carbon fiber bike and I have an f250 so I really like the tailgate pad solution... But I don't want to screw up my new bike.

Hey Adam, Yes the tailgate pad is great for a carbon fiber bike. The foam cushioning protects your bike against any unnecessary roughness. Tailgate pads are great for other reasons as well, you have added protection to your frame from stray rocks striking your bike from the road, and because your rims are not the attachment point there is no added strain to your wheels.

will this product fit a 2020 ram 2500 with ram box?

Hey Charles, I am not completely familiar with the Ram Box, I did some research and found this. https://www.amazon.com/2012-Dodge-Truxedo-Roll-Up-Tonneau/dp/B00LPWUQKQ if the ram box describes the side openings, this tailgate pad will be just fine! The rolltop however wont be able to close fully.

I love this tailgate pad!

I bought this in a size medium for my 2019 Nissan Frontier and it fits PERFECTLY! I have full access to my tailgate handle and back up camera. This pad has some awesome features and would definitely recommend it for others.

Installation headache

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Fit:
Runs large

This pad covers the tailgate on my 2020 GMC Sierra and does run a little large as stated in other reviews. That’s ok overall. The reason why I would not recommend this is because the installation is not possible without an extra set of hands. I had to cut the end of the straps to have a second person feed it thru the bottom of the tailgate while gently pinching our fingers in the gate. It’s a smashed or broken finger waiting to happen. I would’ve been much happier returning the item but to ship it back would’ve cost 40% of the price. Do yourself a favor and don’t buy this pad or any pad online. Unless you will never ever take it off your tailgate. I’ve bought a good number of items from backcountry and loved them all. But this one is way off the mark.

How far does the handle opening extend down on the medium and large?

Hey Clay, I am guessing the backing camera is on the rear handle? I am fairly certain if that is the case this will cover your camera. The medium opening extends 12in and the large 14in.

Will the medium or large pad cover the rear camera on a 2015 Sierra/Silverado 1500?

Hey Clay! Im not completely sure about the exact measurements of your Silverado, however, the Medium pad extends 19in down from the top, and the Large extends 21in from the top. I hope that helps sort out what size you will need.

2013 Ridgeline

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Fit:
Runs large

The fit is just a little too tight on my 2013 Ridgeline, but I can make it work if I push the ends of the pad together and slam the tailgate hard. Overall the performance of the pad has been great and easily holds my 2 MTBs and 2 kids bikes. Appreciate being able to secure back the section that would cover my rear backup camera.

Great deal!

I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Large gives solid coverage for my 06 Ram 1500 with the curved lip to the tailgate. Great price and holds all our bikes on family trips. Two caveats: 1) Had to remove some padding to 3" on either side, inside, at the top, in order to close the tailgate. That's because I have mobile tie down rails in the bed that interfere. Easy to do with a razor edge. 2) The straps latch on the inside of the tailgate. That design makes it difficult to put on and take off. Would be easier if they snapped on the outside.

I got the medium for my Chevy 1500 to avoid the pinch on the sides.

Hauling made easy

The Getaway Tailgate pad works great with my Nissan Frontier. Installation takes no more than 5 minutes and I can still access the tailgate / use backup cam.

Can I close a folding tonneau cover with this pad on when not in use?

Hey Eric, The pad is about 6in. thick, so I do not think it would allow the mechanisms of the Tonneau cover to close. I hope that helps!

I love this pad but I'm returning it for that exact problem. I leave my pad on and the tonneau cover doesn't easily close. I presently have the Yakima and Backcountry has solved a number of the problems that Yakima has. 1. Four straps. three straps create a problem with the backup camera wire housing. 2. Grommets to run a cable through to lock it to truck 3. Velcro that actually works. 4. Storage Packet. Not sure what I'd use it for but its there. 5. Securing straps can be moved to three different positions.

>Rating:

Are there slots on the inside of the pad too that hold the frame in place?

Hey Ryan, The way the pad holds a bike on the tailgate is through the velcro strap that secures across the frame, and there is a slotted pad feature along the front of the pad keeping the front wheel and fork in place. This will prevent wiggling while in motion and is not a common feature among tailgate pads setting ours apart.

What is the material in the Backcountry Getaway Goat tailgate pad? Also, does inside of the flap (toward the tailgate) have fleece material? Thanks/ Lars
