Trail Cargo Shorts

Assos' Trail Cargo Shorts are built to survive seasons of all-mountain riding while providing a dialed fit thanks to its use of technical textiles. It'll keep you comfortable and well protected on the singletrack and its trailFit cut is roomy, yet forgoes excessive material at the crotch, helping prevent saddle snags. Additionally, the Trail Cargo is the ideal length and can be worn with or without pads.

Assos scrutinized other baggies on the market, carefully analyzing their panels, fasteners, webbing, and zippers and how they contribute to unnecessary weight and uncomfortable pedaling. It decided to go with a minimal approach and use its Type.OF11 adaptable textile for the primary panels. It’s an extremely durable and lightweight bi-stretch woven material that’s highly abrasion resistant, fast-drying, offers UPF50+ protection, and receives a DWR treatment to fend off rain and mud.

Its AZPtech (abdomZeroPressure) construction uses a soft and highly elastic material that helps improve the comfort and fit at the waist panel for a smooth, comfortable wrap without excessive, unnecessary pressure. You'll also notice that the circumference of the legs is more tapered than its competitors which helps increase pedaling comfort and reduces hang-ups on trail foliage and your saddle. Assos recommends pairing these with its Trail Liner Shorts for all-day comfort and support.

  • Assos' refined mountain baggy for the discerning rider
  • Type.OF11 panels are abrasion resistant, lightweight, and fast-drying
  • Treated with a DWR treatment to protect from the rain and mud
  • AZPtech waist construction improves the comfort and hold at the waist
  • Two zippered center-thigh pockets carry riding essentials
  • trailFit offers room in the saddle but is never restrictive
  • Refined inseam length is ideal with or without pads

Note: Assos clothing has a very slimming, anatomic cut, if your build is less than slim or if you like your fit looser, go up in size.

How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Measure around the widest part of your chest.
Bend to the side and measure around the place where your waist bends, keeping the tape a bit loose.

I never received this item and refuses to refund my purchase. They claim they shipped it but the shipper ontrac has no record of it and claims they never received it. Neither did I. I am out $139 and apparently will now have to file a fraud claim with VISA.

Wow!!!Great fit, they don't sag and cool

I've used it several times

I love the feel and material. Very comfy and cool. I wasn't sure about the waistband but it really works. No issue with sagging or getting my saddle caught on my shorts. Assos is expensive... but worth !

Yes they are not cheep but this is the most comfortable pair of shorts I own. They are designed and function flawlessly. I like to ride in baggy shorts and prefer them to stretch with my leg movement with no restrictions, these shorts do it all.

I am reading comments about wearing these shorts paired with regular bib shorts instead of the specific Assos pads. Would regular bibs suffer any abrasion when worn undere these shorts? Wondering if they would damage from all the rubbing and start to show pilling? Thanks!

Awesome shorts, disappointing fit

Many of the reviews are loving the LACK of a waist closure. I can appreciate the appeal of this from a design standpoint and comfort. However for me, they won't stay up when climbing. I could be a size up from what Assos would tell me, I am 6', 165lb, slim cyclist type dude, I bought Mediums and Large and kept the larges. For general trail riding all is good, but many of my rides are granny gear climbs up access road walls so 45+ minute climbing efforts and the shorts just keep inching down until my backside is exposed. The fabric is really nice, light, stretchy, good fit but I wish they had a cinch of some kind at the waste to dial in the fit.

I’m 6 ft and 176 and wear a medium. No complaints at all. Love them. I think you went too large.

I'm a huge fan of the quality and fit of Assos gear, especially their shorts and bibs. Although primarily a roadie, these shorts fit like other Assos products in that they fit perfectly when you're in the saddle. I wear them with a set of traditional bibs underneath and am a happy MTB rider now. The best part is the waist band which is comfortable, doesn't slip and is mostly forgettable.. in the best possible way.

Do you regular bib shorts suffer any abrasion when worn with these shorts? Wondering if they would damage from all the rubbing and start to show pilling? Thanks!

These things have been a game-changer for me. They are really light and the most comfortable riding shorts I currently own. Gone are the days of velcro tightening straps and fabric belts, these shorts come in a yoga pant style fit. Just pull them on and you are good to go. The elastic waistband is lined with rubber to ensure minimal slip. I ended up ordering the largest size possible to get a more trail style fit and while they are a little big around the waist they still stay put through all but the gnarliest descents. There are two zipper pockets with just enough space for a phone, your keys, and your nutrition. They are extremely light and water-resistant. I have worn them in temps ranging from 95 all the way down to 35-degree temps and they keep you cool when you want them too and help block the chilly wind when needed.

Coming into MTB with a bang

I've been lucky to have a few pair of Assos road bibs for years, but kept them tucked away for the big days like those fancy champagne glasses you have, just so nothing unforseen happens. After one ride on the Trail short (where I spend far more time than on the road), I took the opposite approach. I ride, ride, ride, rinse, repeat. The waistband fits like a really nice pair of Lululemon yoga shorts would with zero pinch points. The material is perfect for a riding shell on hot days and has plenty of stretch. The real differentiator - like all things Assos they fit like that should when ON the bike. With that in mind the crotch sits a little high and tighter which is perfect to prevent snags on your saddle. I've never had shorts like this and now can't get used to riding without them. The hip zippers are a little short, more narrow than the pocked itself, which drives me crazy. But they are well placed and do the job. Overall, if you want a short that actually rides different and better, try this.

Lightweight. Comfortable. Ergonomic. Go-to. What? That's right - these have become my go-to baggies. Assos? Yep. I've now logged a couple hundred miles+ of sweet singletrack in them, and I find myself reaching for these first and always. The stretchy, seamless waistband paired with incredibly lightweight and breathable fabric is a win. The pockets, at first thought to be too inboard to properly hold a phone, are not -- my phone hangs perfectly at my thigh on one leg, and plenty of room for other provisions in the opposite pocket, all contained without flopping around. These integrate perfectly with the Assos liner, which is pretty perfect. Minor nit: I find the opening at the knee just a touch wider than necessary. If it was a bit more "tailored", it'd be perfect IMHO.
