An ideal partnership.

Assos delivered the best news of all this season for loyal fans when it announced a partnership between itself and Mercedes AMG Petronas. Whether or not the team is your number one, let's be honest, collaborations between cycling teams and single-seat auto racing teams are rare. Seeking inspiration from the engineering and style of another industry that values speed—albeit with different engines—Assos celebrates this partnership with a line of special edition kit. The Men's T.Works_Teamshorts_S7 are built on the familiar T.neoPro_S7 platform, but feature graphics in the signature Mercedes AMG Petronas colors.

Assos took the same meticulous care when constructing the T.Works as with any of its other kit, producing a piece capable of doing long-ride duty days in a row, not just a pretty, commemorative decoration. Nylon and elastane fibers dominate its construction, resulting in fabric that will hold its extremely contoured shape and gentle compression over the miles without bunching or sagging.

The fabric also expertly draws moisture to the surface of the short, encouraging the kind of rapid evaporation that will keep you dry and cool on hot days. It shouldn't surprise you to learn that the short follows the classic Assos fit, tailored to the point of almost being tight when you're not in the saddle and achieving the ideal fit once you're in a riding position.

A set of slim, minimal bib straps anchors the top half of the bib short, smoothing the transition between lower and upper body with a supportive waistband that stays in place as you move around. The neoPro_S7 chamois was subject to the same obsessive construction process as the rest of the T.Works, its flexible design and strategic accents of plush cushioning admirably balancing comfort and breathability in the saddle.

  • Special edition bib shorts built for a heavy training schedule
  • Highly contoured Assos cut achieves best fit in the saddle
  • Fabric construction holds shape and wicks moisture
  • Minimal bib straps supports without inhibiting movement
  • Signature Mercedes AMG Petronas team colors for racing fans

I'm 5'7". According to Assos's size chart, I should order size Medium, but I should have ordered size Large instead. So, I'm returning the bib short to exchange for size large.

I'm 5' 11" and a 36" waist, what size should I look at for Assos? I'm more of a 36.5" than a 34" waist - will a large be too tight?

Could use less logo

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

These bibs are a decent fit, although didn't quite live up to my expectation (these were my first assos bibs). The logo on the leg is a bit showy and too stiff. The material is starting to wear a hold in that area. Also these don't work well with a backpack. There is a seam in the back that chafes under the load of a backpack. Without a backpack, no issue.

If you own a Mercedes: great; if not No

32" waist. I wanted a slightly longer leg in my bibs and thought this was the ticket. Unfortunately got a Large because I couldn't remember what size my other Assos bib shorts were. I wear a Medium so I'm returning these but also getting a different bib style all together. If I would have paid attention to the sizing that Competitive provides I would have known that Medium is what fits for me. But I would be returning them anyways because of the Mercedes "team" kit. From the pictures, it looks like the markings are only on the inside where no one can see. However the Mercedes team markings though subtle are distinctively obvious on the outside as well. And since I don't own a Mercedes I didn't want to have to deal with comments assuming I do. Too bad because this is a great piece of clothing.

Keep Coming Back to these Beauties

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I absolutely love these shorts. Cool Mercedes logo. Chamois keeps your rear comfy on long rides. Flat straps that don't chafe your nips. The chamois is also very friendly to the male genitalia, giving it room to move and breathe (in comparison, my Castellis feel like they compress my family jewels up into my stomach). Probably the only down-side is that you have to handwash and air-dry these delicate shorts if you want them to last. It's entirely worth it though. Now that I have these beauties in my closet, I never want to reach for another pair of shorts.
