T.tiburu_s7 Bib Shorts

Autumn riding is fraught with peril. We don't mean sudden storms, buffeting winds, and less daylight. Rather, we're talking about the dangers of over- or under-dressing for a bike ride. Assos helps to address this problem with its new thermally insulated T.tiburu_s7 Bib Shorts, which you can wear alone on days in the 50s or pair with leg warmers on days that are cold enough to warrant full coverage.

The shorts' main fabric is the all-new 610.RX, developed exclusively for the T.tiburu_s7s and their knicker and full-length counterparts, due out in 2015. 610.RX has a brushed lining for warmth, comfort, and wicking, and the exterior is treated with Assos' own water repellent technology. The shorts also incorporate a panel of wind resistant Stratagon Ultra fabric in the front crotch and lower abdomen. Assos is calling this feature BlasenSchutz, which translates literally to "blow protection," suggesting windproof qualities, but which Assos translates more playfully as "bladder protection." Assos claims that the extra protection keeps you from having to urinate while riding in cold weather, but we can't repeat that in good conscious without acknowledging that we're not sure if it's true or not. What we can say about BlasenSchutz is that the extra panel protects your core from wind chill — a feature that needs no additional bladder-related justification.

The insert is the same featured in the race-level T.equipe_s7 shorts. It boasts the same eight millimeters of memory foam, which "fill the gaps" while your body moves through the pedaling motion, and it incorporates the perforated waffle layer, which provides ventilation and a more forgiving ride. It also has the goldenGate feature, where the center sides of the chamois aren't stitched to the shorts' body. This means that the chamois has that much more freedom to move with you while you pedal rather than staying stationery while you move across it. The chamois also benefits from another Assos invention, integrated front pad protection, which means that the chamois isn't sewn into the front but actually extends to the end of the panel, eliminating seams in what we can all agree is a very sensitive area. Chapeau, Assos.

Assos designs its clothing according to the dictates of their ALS (Assos Layer System), wherein it's divided the year into seven distinct cycling seasons, each season calling for a different type of gear. The T.tiburu_s7s fall into the median "Fall" range, meaning they're designed for use in 50 to 59 degrees Fahrenheit. (You can view the full ALS chart here. It's a helpful seasonal guide, even if you're not using Assos gear.) We find this to be pretty accurate, although you may find them getting too warm in the high 50s.

The Assos T.tiburu_s7 Bib Shorts - Men's are available in seven sizes ranging from X-Small to X-Large and including TIR (X-Large Wide) and the color Black Volkanga.

  • Assos shorts for inclement conditions in the shoulder seasons

For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Measure around the widest part of your chest.
Bend to the side and measure around the place where your waist bends, keeping the tape a bit loose.

Perfect cool weather bib short!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

These bibs are absolutely perfect for cool weather when riding with knee or leg warmers. Also fantastic under my Assos bib tights on cold days. Couldn’t be happier with this product.

Well worth the money!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

These are amazing, keeps me warm in 30-50 degree weather. The chamois is the most comfortable I have worn. Do yourself a favor and spend a little more to get these bibs! I’m 6’ and 172 lbs, the large fits perfect.

High Quality, Extremely warm

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: medium

The perfect option if you are going on a ride where you don't need bib tights, but it is still to cold to just have regular bibs. a great piece if you are riding in a sunny 50 degree day, or a cloudy, windy, 60 degree day.

Fantastic Cool/Cold Weather Bibs

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: XL

I've had several pair of these and the S7 is my go to bib for cool/cold weather riding. I don't generally road ride at below freezing temperatures so I put leg warmers under these for winter rides down to 0°C and they are plenty warm enough. The comfort and performance of Assos is tough to beat, pricey they are but worth it. Assos bibs are the only ones I ride.

They run true to size. I'm 190cm/95kg and the XL is perfect.

Great bib Shorts

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Large

I’ve been wearing Assos for many years. One of my favorite brands. Great fit and comfortable as always. Superb quality. Paired with arm and knee warmers for the cool morning rides in Texas.

Comparing inserts

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I cannot add anything to the other reviews. These shorts are perfect. but I have an opinion as to the inserts of the various shorts, which might address the comfort issues that others are having. If your experience is different from mine, you might want to consider other brands. For example, If the Castelli X2 is comfortable for you, then maybe you are just built differently -- I can't wear it, it hurts me.

In order, my favorite to least-favorite inserts

I love:
1) This one, the 8mm chamois (also in the Equipe)
2) KuKuPenthouse insert in the T.Cento, at 10mm
3) KuKuPenthouse in the Campionisimo, at 8mm
4) Rapha Cytec insert

I like:
5) Capo Anatomic-DP (ex, Thermo Robaix)
6) Capo Anatomic-4G (ex, Padrone)

7) Cuore instert (for example Strava kit)
8) Craft Infinite Comfort (Glow Bib Shorts)

Uncomfortable, to the point of pain:
9) X2 insert from Castelli,
10) Perl Izumi P.R.O Anatomic 1:1

Re-Think your Bib

It's not always sunny and 82 degrees here in SLC. The spring and fall here we have some of the best riding in the country. Most riders never think of having a bib designed specifically for these types of temperatures - Please start thinking about it because you'€™ll be a happier rider. The inside fabric is soft and warm, and the exterior is treated with water repellent, but it never rains here so I'€™m yet to see how repellent it is. The fit is very similar to the Cento's, minus the KuKu penthouse, and I love the added fabric in the man's region for long descents. Even with the warm lining and added fabric the design its minimal and the bibs overall feel is no different than any other Assos bibs€ - these are just a bit warmer. I ride with these in temps from 40-65F. The quality is everything you'd expect from Assos, perfect. A great addition in the gear closet. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions and/or concerns about fit. Happy to help.

    Re-Think your Bib

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Exactly as advertised. Perfect fit and very comfortable. Normally wear the Medium Equipe bibs and these fit me the same. Cold is an issue for me due to the icy winds caused by high humidity. Used in the high 40-low 50's in high humidity. Cold not an issue. Will see how they function in the 30's and low 40's. For me, definitely worth the expense. 5'10" 158 lbs.

    Awesome cool weather bibs

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium

The quality of these bib shorts is superb, and it holds true in comfort. They are great on cool mornings and don't require any adjusting. They do feel tighter than the other pair of Assos bibs I have, but not in the runs small category, more in the runs tight catagory. But they are supposed to do that. Really well designed and put together. Worth the price.

    Great Bibs

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: M

These bibs make a very good base for fall/winter/spring riding. You can pair these with knee warmers during chilly fall and spring rides and leg warmers during winter rides. I'd say these are good with leg warmers until 45F. Anything below and I'd recommend bib tights.

Not much to say about quality and material - it's Assos. Fit is similar to the t.equipe s7 bib shorts.

    As Expected

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL

I have several Assos bibs, tights, and jerseys, and they have led me to expect the highest quality, form, and function from Assos. Assos came through again with the T.Tiburu. Fit and chamois are superb and the bib short fills the gap between summer bibs and heavy duty winter gear--wind protection and warmth precisely where needed. Precisely what I hoped for and expected.

    Best Winter Bib Ever

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Take the unbelievable fit and comfort of Assos bibs, and add a light insulated fabric. These are my go to bib for Fall/Winter/Spring rides. The waffle shape shape fabric provides loft to keep you warm without the hefty, bulk you get in most roubaix fabric bibs. Plus you get a windproof panel in the front to protect the goods. Not an inexpensive item, but definitely worth while for anyone knocking out long rides in the cool months.

    Most uncomfortable chamois ever

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Beautifully made, fabulous materials. Aside from chamois, possibly the nicest bibs I have ever put on. Extremely warm. The chamois however made for a remarkably unpleasant experience. 3 rides on 3 different bikes with 3 different saddles. Same result - exremely uncomfortable, some actual painful chafing. The problem seems to be that the chamois has two entirely separate very thick semi-circular segments with zero padding in between or on the sides (so there is no proogressively thicker padding - you are either on the 3/4" thick padding or you are not), so I was sort of "falling off" the padding sections and then it would get jammed in a bad position and impossible to get it to stay in place. And I typically love thick chamois. Total fail for me. I suspect some people it will work for and love this. Shame sicne the rest of the bibs are so wonderful.

Man ! Thought I was t he only 1 that felt that way about the new chamois have owened past bibs with s5 being top dog hands down so figured they could only get better NOT ! tried the $300 pair about 7 or more rides strange filling so thought it was haka pu pouch by itself went & ordered the basic $200 pair still strange filling researchers leave well enogh alone from an owner of all the s5 offerings from the basic to the top $400 pair the best there is hands down STOP !!

    Kevin Ware

Same experience here on the chamois. Especially on long rides very bad case of chafing, regardless of how much chamois cream used.

Ditto on the chamois....very uncomfortable after 30 miles or so. Since discovering Sportful bibs and their great chamois' my Assos get very little use.

I have couple of s5 and several s7 bibs. In my opinion s7 line chamois is much better, at least for me and guys on my rides.

Sorry, but the dudes who find this chamois uncomfortable must have some weird-ass ass. No problem here whatsoever and I'm pretty sensitive to different chamois. Sucks for you as it's an awesome bib.
But they run really small. I'm surprised that guys who weight more than 155 lbs and are taller than 5'7" find M to be the right size. I'm 5'9" and weight 160 lbs and even L is arguably too tight. Fine around the thighs, but little too tight in the groin and the straps are barely long enough.
