When taking this out of the package, you can't believe that you will get it on! But, yes you do and it is awesome. I also have a Castelli which works well, but I found this more comfortable, and warmer.

The Assos Skinfoil Winter LS base layer seems like an excellent product. The material is soft and super comfortable against the skin. It's very stretchy and fits tightly, just like a base layer should. I'm sure that, had I kept it, it would have provided excellent warmth under a jersey for late fall or winter riding. I was also planning to use it on its own, with just a light vest, for shorter rides when it's moderately cold. The II-L/XL size didn't quite work for me, though. I'm 6'1" and about 172 pounds. One thing I noticed right away is that the top is uncomfortably tight under my arms . . . until I lean forward and extend my arms like I'm riding. Then the fit under the arms is actually perfect. I mention that part because I read that it's supposed to work that way, and I thought I'd confirm for others that it did for me. My main issue with the shirt, which made me decide to send it back, is that the sleeves weren't long enough, and they ride up. Maybe thumb loops would fix the issue. There aren't any, though, and the sleeves leave my wrists exposed when I lean into a riding position. Perhaps under a jersey that wouldn't be a problem. It wasn't what I was looking for in the shirt, though. The torso of the shirt also rides up a little even though it fits very snug. That seemed odd, and I'd guess that under a jersey it's not much of an issue. Given the price point, I was looking for something that had no real downsides, though. All in all, I think it's an excellent base layer, but it just didn't fit right at my size/shape.

I own all the Assos skinfoils and two of the Skinfoil Winter Long-Sleeve Base Layers. I use one for the bike and the other for my winter walks. Nothing keeps me warmer in freezing weather better with few needed layers. I've been on the bike and walking in 20 degrees F, and two layers have been all I needed. Once you work up a sweat, it creates an incredible micro-climate that is never too hot or cold. It hugs the body like a second skin. Never too tight anywhere. The different knits and patterns in the material serve the area of your skin. It contacts with purpose and function. Never pinching or feeling uncomfortable. The garment is well made, durable, and frankly perfect. Get one! The original one I purchased is the older black and white style with extra cool styling cues knitted into the sleeves and shoulder, which I happen to like more. The newer black version is functionally identical to the previous version. Just not as cool looking and probably less expensive to manufacture.

Very high quality, very comfortable, and very warm. For some reason, I had to size down one size for this. I wear a large in the short sleeve Assos base layers (current generation) but had to go down to a medium in this.

As an older experienced cold weather rider here in New England, I use a number of really well made high end layering pieces. I'd rate this baselayer as one of my favorites. I have other excellent baselayer pieces from Rapha, Castelli and Giordana, but lately I've been grabbing this one for my early winter rides. I routinely wear just this with one of my nice winter riding jackets and I'm comfortable down into the low 30's. This piece does it's job, wicking away body heat and moisture so that you're not feeling clammy and cold on those cold windy winter days. I would absolutely buy this piece again. I prefer my cycling gear to have a little 'give' to it without feeling like a stuffed sausage.. So even though I'm a short 5'5" tall and 145 with a full 38/39 inch chest, I prefer to size up in Assos Gear. I bought the Size I in this piece and it fits me perfectly. As others have stated, when you pull it out of the package, be prepared because it looks like it is sized for your 10 year old. But the material has an amazing elasticity to it and it conforms nicely to your body without feeling overly snug or constricting.

Eh, not as good as the Ibex, even the Craft felt better. Have we set the bar too high? Once upon a time we could justify the higher cost of Assos because they were quality. Seems the company is riding on their laurels now. Bought 3/3 full finger gloves as well less than a week and the stitching began to unravel.

Very warm base layer! Really like the neck coverage. Have been going out with just this layer and a short sleeve jersey over it the past few weeks in 45F - 50F temps.

The Assos Skinfoil is an unusual baselayer design. It is made of 95% polypropylene and 5% elastane (Spandex). The Skinfoil is designed to wrap your body like a skin suit. When I first removed the size 0 Skinfoil out of its packaging, it looked like an outfit for a 10 year old. The garment is very elastic, it compresses the body, but I don't feel suffocating, and it does not restrict any movement. When I wear the Skinfoil underneath a fitting jersey or jacket, there is no extra fabric bulge and folds to deal with. This is very different from wearing a fleece baselayer; fleece is bulkier, heavier and more restrictive. Polypropylene fabric is one of the lightest synthetic fibers in existence, the thermal conductivity of this substance is lower than that of most synthetic fibers, which means that it is ideally suited for cold weather wear. The fabric does not absorb water, so all your sweat is wick towards the outer garments. While this fabric's moisture-transferring properties are highly desirable for sportswear, the inability to wash this fabric with hot water makes it hard to remove odors from polypropylene sportswear. The new Skinfoil has a fragrance to it, it's probably the anti-odor treatment I'm smelling. Given the fabric's limitation, I make a habit of washing the garment immediately after each use and use cold water only. By the way, polypropylene fabric in general is susceptible to UV damage, so don't use it as an outer layer, or wear a long sleeve Skinfoil under a short sleeve jersey all the time. I was riding outside this morning in 40 degrees cloudy weather. I paired the Skinfoil with an Assos Mille jacket. At the beginning of the ride, I was warm, but not toasty warm, and I could feel the chill in the air. But it was not frigid and the body did not tighten up. After a few minutes when the body got warmed up, it felt very good. The chilly wind was in my face, but the body stayed loose and comfortable. Towards the end of the 90 minute ride, my body was warm, but I did not feel drenching in sweat or overheated. The Skinfoil was slightly moist from the sweat and it formed a layer of cooling fabric. I did not feel wet at all, just a cool fabric against my warm body. It felt pretty good, comfortable, no overheated or frigid body. Once I went indoor, the Skinfoil dried up in just a few minutes, I didn't feel the need to take it off right away. As for the sizing, I'm 5'7", 135 lb., and my chest size is 38". The Assos web site as well as their Switzerland support folks recommended a size 0. All my Assos jerseys and jackets are in SMALL. The Skinfoil in Size 0 fits me like a glove. I don't know why the Competitive Cyclist site shows a size 0 for XXS/XS and a size I for S/M, that is different from the ASSOS recommendation.

I wore this base layer on a morning ride (32 degrees) with a Castelli Perfetto jacket. Both were more than enough. The Assos was night and day vs. a ouple of other base layers I tried. It immediately disappeared, was warm and kept the warmth while allowing for great ventilation. Super comfortable and you can tell the quality as soon as you take it out f the bag - highly, highly recommended!!!

Assos has been very responsive with anything I found to have a quality control issue. You should contact CC or Assos directly. Both can help.
