Flahute approved.

Modern-day cyclists have it pretty good. The efforts to go fast might still hurt like hell but frames, components, shoes, wheels, and apparel have evolved so much over the past few decades that we're able to ride in more comfort and go faster with less effort than ever before. Rainwear too is an area that has advanced to such an extent and does such an amazing job of keeping riders dry and comfortable without overheating, that we almost look forward to going out under ominous skies to try the gear out. If you're after an ultra-lightweight and packable jacket that'll keep you comfortable on wet days, the Men's Equipe RS Jacket from Assos will let you leave the house without fear during those unpredictable shoulder season rides.

The Equipe RS is built as a lighter weight version of the hugely popular rS.sturmprinz. It's fit is an ergonomic race-focused cut that clicks when in the riding position and contributes to less drag. The construction is the propriety Schloss textile that's the lightest weight and most waterproof soft-shell from Assos and is stretchy and packable. The 3-layer construction has excellent abrasion resistance and uses a hydrophilic membrane to keep you dry. Seams, all taped, and panels were reduced to a minimum to help keep water out and improve the fit. As such, it's much lighter than the sturmPrinz, by almost half, and is more compact and packable, thus making it perfect to toss in the jersey pocket and in racing scenarios where you're battling the elements just as hard as the competition.

Highly elevated features exist throughout as we've come to expect from Assos including the silicon elastic waistband that holds the jacket in place, taped wrists and neck that keep water out and minimize friction, and the well-thought-out slot pockets on the rear panel that allow easy access to your jersey pockets as well as providing additional ventilation areas.

We’ve found that the jacket is ideal when heading out on a chilly start and works quite well over a summer jersey or even a spring or fall top. It also comes in handy as much-needed wind protection on the descents. The focus is for the milder conditions of spring, summer, and fall and if you're looking for even more protection in winter and possibly snow, we'd recommend the more heavy-duty sturmPrinz.

Finally, a few other features worth mentioning, this jacket has been designed to be as quiet as possible with rustle-free fabric and is treated with a DWR (Durable Water Repellency) coating to prevent it from soaking up rainfall and wheel spray. Reflex material is added to the rear of the jacket to enhances visibility in low-light conditions.

  • Emergency and light protection on unpredictable days
  • Assos level performance and comfort
  • Advanced fabrics repeal the elements to keep you warm and dry
  • Evolved materials make it light and packable
  • Taped seams and reduced panels keep moisture out
  • Taped neck and wrists seal out precipitation and eliminate friction
  • Slot holes allow access to jersey pockets and additional venting

Defective zipper makes jacket worthless

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: XLG

I ordered this jacket directly from Assos when it was advertised for an upcoming Fondo event I am doing this weekend. After receiving it and feeling how difficult it was to get it to zip AT ALL for a $350 jacket I decided to order another one.

I had assumed that this was simply a one-off issue with the first jacket I received. So I paid for 2-day shipping to make sure I received the second one before my event.

Received it this week and it has the EAXCT same problem that Ryan B had. I emailed customer service and they havent even bothered to respond.

Very disappointed in Assos and this product. I have a ton of other gear from them and have been very happy with it but for a $350 jacket this design and their lack of response to my concern is terrible.

The good, the bad & the torn off zipper

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

So, I bought this (here) a month or so ago (maybe 2 months ago -- I lose track of time). Fit is great -- was similar to Assos jerseys I've owned. This jacket kept me plenty warm and seemed to breath fairly well. It was also fairly easy to access my rear pockets through the jacket. I was quite satisfied . . . except . . . for . . . the ZIPPER. The zipper on this baby was sticky! It required a decent amount of strength, and for sure two hands, to zip and unzip. This was tolerable until the zipper stuck and when I thought I had pulled it free, the pin and the bottom stop tore right off the zipper. The jacket is still usable, but barely.

The good: Waterproof, warm, light, rolls up fairly small.

The bad (including the torn off zipper): See above re zipper issues; expensive (well, it's Assos).

Send it back to Assos, they always stand behind their products.

The zipper on this jacket is a complete joke. I ordered two different ones directly from Assos and BOTH of them had the exact same issue. Assos customer service hasnt even bothered to reply to my ticket about the concerns. I love most Assos stuff but I feel like they are going downhill if this experience is of any indication.

Unanswered Question

My measurements:
Chest 39.5"
Height 71"
Weight 165 lbs.
I'm thinking large since I'm on the border line with medium size.

How is the sizing on this compared to the Blitzfeder? I am a solid medium in the Blitz - should I go with the same in this?

Hey Geoffrey!

I would start you off in a medium. I believe that both pieces are cut to fit the same. Be sure to reach out to me directly at if you want to speak about fit in detail.

Fear no moisture

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Small

While this isn't the most packable rain jacket in existence, it is perfect for the rider looking to ride in any sort of weather. In rain, wind, or any mix possible, you can count on staying completely dry. I found it to be very breathable so moisture from the inside is also not a problem. It fit well in a jersey pocket for quick access when the sky starts to turn. Assos qualifies this as a "unisex" jacket which I find to be mostly true as a female. Size small is good throughout the body. However, the sleeves are a touch long in my opinion and I could see this being an issue for other women as I don't consider my arms unusually short. Overall, I really enjoy this jacket and look forward to getting caught in the rain more frequently!

The Castle Dog Protects

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small

Schlosshund, or castle dog for those who don’t sprechen sie deutsch, is the protection you need. It is not the lightest or most compactible rain shell on the market, but it is the most heavy-duty for its size. It hits that sweet spot that allows you to keep the wind and water off, completely, and then roll up and fit nicely in a standard jersey pocket.

The red/orange color catches the eye without being an obnoxious eyesore. The reflective accents promote visibility while the jacket maintains a subtle esthetic. The fit is designed to stay out of the wind, so it will be more form-fitting than a typical rain shell. The sleeve is of proper cycling length and the cuff lays flat on the wrist.

This is the best rain shell I have ridden in. Assos’ heritage of high quality bike apparel shines through like the sun’s golden rays on a misty morning ride. Fear no weather, go forth and ride!

How does this compare to the Gore Shake dry jacket? Also does it flap around on descents or at high speeds?

La Wo,
As with the rest of the Equipe line, it is a race fit-- little to no drag/flap in the wind.
