Why We Like The Equipe RS Evo Rain Jacket

Modern-day cyclists have it pretty good. The efforts to go fast might still hurt but frames, components, shoes, wheels, and apparel have evolved so much over the past few decades that we're able to ride in more comfort and go faster with less effort than ever before. Rainwear too is an area that has advanced to such an extent and does such an amazing job of keeping riders dry and comfortable without overheating, that we almost look forward to going out under ominous skies to try the gear out. If you're after an ultra-lightweight and packable jacket that'll keep you comfortable on wet days, the Men's Equipe RS Jacket from Assos will let you leave the house without fear during those unpredictable shoulder season rides.

The Equipe RS is built as a lighter weight version of the hugely popular rS.sturmprinz. It's fit is an ergonomic race-focused cut that clicks when in the riding position and contributes to less drag. The construction is the propriety Schloss textile that's the lightest weight and most waterproof soft-shell from Assos and is stretchy and packable. The 3-layer construction has excellent abrasion resistance and uses a hydrophilic membrane to keep you dry. Seams, all taped, and panels were reduced to a minimum to help keep water out and improve the fit. As such, it's much lighter than the sturmPrinz, by almost half, and is more compact and packable, thus making it perfect to toss in the jersey pocket and in racing scenarios where you're battling the elements just as hard as the competition.

We've found that the jacket is ideal when heading out on a chilly start and works quite well over a summer jersey or even a spring or fall top. It also comes in handy as much-needed wind protection on the descents. The focus is for the milder conditions of spring, summer, and fall and if you're looking for even more protection in winter and possibly snow, we'd recommend the more heavy-duty sturmPrinz.

  • Emergency and light protection on unpredictable days
  • Assos level performance and comfort
  • Advanced fabrics repeal the elements to keep you warm and dry
  • Evolved materials make it light and packable
  • Taped seams and reduced panels keep moisture out
  • Taped neck and wrists seal out precipitation and eliminate friction
  • Pocket Slots allow access to jersey pockets and additional venting

Note: Assos clothing has a very slimming, anatomic cut, if your build is less than slim or if you like your fit looser, go up in size.

How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Measure around the widest part of your chest.
Bend to the side and measure around the place where your waist bends, keeping the tape a bit loose.

Keeps The Rain Out / Let’s The Heat Out

I’ve worn this jacket when it’s 60 and raining and 45 and raining (with different layers) and it really delivers. I’m 6’ and bought a Large. The sleeves are slightly shorter than those on the GT Winter Jacket in the same size. This is not a packable light jacket. It’ll fit in a jersey pocket but this is a jacket for when you’re going to ride in the rain, not for when it might rain, or you intend to carry it in a jersey for a long descent.

Improved zipper, Assos zippers are always getting stuck and rusting I wish they’d switch to plastic or something but this Evo version has a chunkier black (possibly plastic) zipper that feels sturdier and doesn’t get stuck constantly like the previous RS jacket did. Biggest issue is zipper gets stuck at the top due to black cloth that wraps around the top to prevent neck chafing presumably. Almost impossible to fully zip up without using both hands and stopping . Ironically this could be fixed by making the fabric piece MUCH bigger to keep it farther from the zip and easier to grab. Fit is amazing as usual w Assos. Fabric feels amazing outside and inside it’s cozy even against bare skin. I’m 6’1, 170 lbs get a size XL to have extra room for layers etc - chest is somewhat bulky but it’s at least one size up from my ideal size for it. Assos really knows what they’re doing fabric and fit-wise. Otherwise have not used this jacket yet but tried previous version and it blocked wind and rain well, breathed and felt light and not clammy like so many other rain shells. Lighter than sturmprinz jacket but heavier than a wind shell. You could probably use this jacket as a fall jersey with just a base layer. Grey color is almost metallic but I’ve seen the other two colors as well and they’re all super beautiful and luxurious .

Too size up is an understatement. It’s a race fit. I’m a small and medium is tight in the chest. The fabric is stretchy. It’s well made.

not sure about color, wearing black in a rain storm does not seem good to be seen by others. The description indicates that its reflective but does it really work in a storm?
