The Assos Mille GT EVO Winter Jacket is designed for those winter rides when you’re covered head to toe with only your eyes feeling any wind flow behind cycling shades. Assos constructs the jacket from a highly technical and purpose-specific choice of fabrics for performance in cold climates with rains and winds. On the front, Assos uses a blend of their NEOS Light and RX Heavy layers to shield you from head-on rains and provide complete windproofing. The treatment flows to the upper back, where a lighter layer of NEOS Medium takes over to provide warmth enough for comfort but allows some heat and moisture to leave so that you won’t overheat during intense winter training miles. And on the sleeves, Assos uses NEOS Ultra and 652.RX for a twin-layer of warmth and element protection in a cut that maximizes range of motion while in the cycling position. What all this means is that Assos wants you to challenge yourself in winter, and the Mille GT EVO is up to the task.
Helpful details that will go unnoticed but are appreciated are rear pocket stabilizers that keep loaded pockets from sagging under the weight of extra food and supplies that are typically carried on winter rides. Assos caps the pockets with “lids” to keep the contents dry and secured, and reflective details alert motorists to your presence in low-light riding.

My Go To Winter Jacket
- Size Bought:
- M
- Weight:
- 175
Works great from 40 to 55 degrees depending on the base layer. It’s important to wear insulated tights or leg warmers along with the jacket. No jacket will be warm enough in these temps if you ride in summer shorts. It’ll also work well in colder temps if you layer a windjacket or shell to start the ride. I live in Oregon and often ride in the rain. The jacket will wet out after a while but it’s so good that I rarely use my Equipe Evo rain jacket anymore. And it rains almost every day in the winter here. Drizzle and showers are fine. Heavy rain requires a shell. Sizing: It’s supposed to fit like a heavy jersey. The neck needs to fit pretty snug to keep wind and moisture out. I’m 175 and 5’11. Plenty of sleeve length and room for base layers and even a mid-layer.

Not Really for Winter
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Is not very warm. Would recommend for Spring/Fall (above 50 degrees), but nothing colder. Also runs VERY small.

Who at Assos signed off on the fit?!

I have ben wearing Assos clothing for years and years and I am completely aware of the sizing concerns. I have worn size medium on all their bibs and larges for their jerseys/jackets with absolutely no problem. This particular jacket is laughably out of scale! I purchased the large and it's not even close----large child maybe, but I'm not sure about that either? I can't imagine I would be able get anything under this jacket except a mesh base layer. Looks like a really great jacket with all the Assos fit and finish, sad that the fit is so far off.

I was excited to get this jacket as the appearance was attractive and all the mountain bike magazines said this was a great winter mtn bike jacket. But when it arrived it was the strangest fitting garment I have ever received. I am 6`1" with long arms. A standard XL size has fit me for years. This jacket, though, seems to have been stitched together with XXL arms and then a body between Small and Medium. I could not get the jacket sides more than 4 inches together when I tried to zip up. I either got a bad jacket or their XL is just off. I do want to compliment Competitive Cyclist for handling the return so well so far.
