Description

Foiled again.

While the Assos LS.skinFoilSpring/Fall_s7 Body Insulator may have a complicated title, it's actually a key piece of your kit that's simpler than the name suggests. Allow us to break it down. SkinFoil is Assos' name for its body-hugging, temperature-regulating baselayers, which are constructed with no visible seams to eliminate chafing and enhance mobility. A blend of nylon and polyester moves moisture quickly away from your skin, and the compressive fit helps support muscles to decrease fatigue. LS stands for, reasonably, long sleeve, which is pretty self-explanatory, and Spring/Fall denotes — surprise! — the seasons in which the midweight skinFoil is designed to excel. Finally, the s7 suffix indicates that the skinFoil is part of Assos' newest line, which takes the already legendary Assos ethos to the next level.

  • A long-sleeved base layer for spring and fall rides
  • Impressive breathability keeps you from overheating and sweating
  • Offers just enough insulation to fend off cold chills
  • Moisture-wicking yarn keeps you dry
  • Open mesh design actively transfers sweat to the outer layers
  • Seamless construction and non-restrictive fit makes it an ideal first layer

A A fantastic piece of 'equipment"

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: II (XL)

Ive been riding with Assos everything from base layers, to tops, bibs, jackets.. everything. Occasionally I try some other things when on sale and they just sit idle collecting dustballs, or they get relegated to kayak workouts.. Whenever anyone asks me if it's worth the cost.. well, there's only one answer.. once your ride Assos, you can't go back. But the base layering system that Assos established years ago and have tweaked a few times has been the best thing, so if you only can buy one thing, get the base layers.!

This is as expected, a fantastic base layer and works exactly for the prescribed temperature range and wicks moisture like nobody's business.

Has anyone else found those thready things in the left sleeve get caught in the fingers while getting dressed? Kind of a funny issue, and it seems the pattern is just for 'appearance'.. so unless my shirt is flawed somehow, this is a bit if a grievance. Once it's on though, the item simply 'rocks'! Anyone else have the same experience with this sleeve pattern?

N.K.

The one I ordered had the same issue... has to be a defect. I sent mine back.

Hi Stephen; On further inspection, this is not a defect, but I feel it is certainly a design flaw that needs to be fixed. The article works amazingly well as a base layer so I would never give it up, but I question why Assos (with their usual great wisdom) decided to put a lot of loose threads inside the sleeve, making it precarious to slip the sleeve on without getting fingers tangled. As far as I can tell, this is purely a 'design' or fashion element, but I have to ask: who will see this lovely design ?? It's a BASE LAYER.. It will always be covered over by another piece of clothing..

Please don't let this comment deter anyone from buying this; it is an amazing piece of kit and a big improvement in function over the previous versions.. Just a bit challenging while getting dressed initially. On the bike, there is nothing comes even close.

N.K.

Typical Assos quality

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: III ( I am a 43" chest)

This base layer fits like it's painted on. On the road it's like the upper half of a skin suit. The quality is excellent and I just love wearing it. What else is there to say? Great stuff.

Thanks Bruce for the review, glad to hear this skin suit has worked out well for you! Assos does indeed make great cycling pieces! If you ever need anything here at Competitive, feel free to reach out Bruce.

this is probably the best under layer I have ever worn. way better than any of my Castelli or Pearl Izumi. very breathable and comfortable when riding for hours.

Best under garment I have ever owned

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Size II

snug fit and excellent breathability. Smells great even after several hours in the saddle.

BEST "undergarment" I've worn!

  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: XL

I've tried a few other brands, which were cheaper, however THIS insulating shirt is the BEST I've tried. I'm 6ft even and the XL is a perfect fit.
