H.milleshorts_s7 Shorts

Like with their bibbed brethren, the bib-free H.milleshorts_s7 Shorts showcase Assos' goldenGate construction method, which may be our favorite recent advancement in cycling shorts' technology. GoldenGate involves attaching the chamois at the front and rear, leaving the sides free to float so the chamois moves with your body instead of against it. This effectively relocates friction from the skin/chamois interface to the chamois/shorts, all but eliminating friction. We're starting to see this feature crop up in other manufacturers' lines but — true to the precedent of history — Assos did it first and continues to do it better.

The Type.429 material, a durable fabric whose properties are a study in apparent contradictions, is another element of the H.milleshorts that has enjoyed flattering imitation. It combines a low-volume with moderately compressive supportive to keep both weight and muscle fatigue to a minimum. It also enjoys the durability of a ripstop material but with breathability, moisture management, and a comfortable touch that belies its hard-wearing nature.

The shorts are cut to accommodate a regular, athletic build and — given that this is Assos — you won't be surprised to learn that the shape is engineered so they fit best when you're in the saddle. While we can't speak for every cyclist, not all of us at Competitive are built like the rail-thin, razor-elbowed climbers of the pro peloton. The mille fit means that the shorts conform to our body with a gently compressive, second-skin fit instead of squeezing and pinching our legs into bulging shapes that range from unflattering to uncomfortable.

The leg and waistbands continue this theme of fitting your body instead of forcing your body to fit the shorts. The legs terminate in low-volume superFlat grip bands to keep the cuffs securely in place, and the waistband uses gentle compression and a wide footprint to ensure coverage without adding pressure and restriction to your stomach.

The lack of bibs mean that the H.milleshorts are able to transcend the barriers of warm-weather imposed on other shorts. They're useful as a base layer when temperatures and precipitation start falling, because you can wear them beneath bib tights without adding undue bulk or interfering with your torso layering strategy. When the weather heads south, you won't be stuck with a terry-cloth winter chamois. Considering that Assos is known as "the shorts company" for a reason, that's a welcome revelation.

The H.milleshorts_s7 incorporate the amethyst chamois found throughout Assos' line in kit like the T.neoPro_s7 bib shorts. At its heart is the same 8mm-thick memoryFoam material first introduced in the venerable _s2 FI.13. This material exhibits remarkable return properties, so it quickly returns to its original position after deformation, essentially filling the gaps that your pedal stroke produces while your weight shifts throughout the pedaling motion. As you can imagine, the free-floating, goldenGate design also facilitates this action, which keeps contact constant to avoid chafing. The superAir and waffle construction of memoryFoam's first two layers warrant special attention, as they increase breathability and shed weight through negative space. It also effectively increase's the material's surface area, transporting moisture away from your skin to accelerate drying.

Note: Assos clothing has a very slimming, anatomic cut, if your build is less than slim or if you like your fit looser, go up in size.

How to Measure:
For best results, take measurements over your underwear.
Measure around the widest part of your chest.
Bend to the side and measure around the place where your waist bends, keeping the tape a bit loose.

Runs very small

  • Fit: Runs small
  • Size Bought: Medium

I usually buy Pearl Izumi, Specialized and Louis Garneau in M. These would not even fit around my thighs and I am not a big guy.

assos H.milleshorts_s7 Shorts

  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: medium

took the plunge during a fall sale. quite happy with the product although they do run big just as castelli run small. with the right size, they are excellent. have had no issue with the chamois.

Sizing consistent with L Garneau

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

XL in these fits me the same as XL in Louis Garneau shorts. Worn these several times now on rides up to 44 miles long, been very comfortable. Good investment.

The shorts run large

  • Fit: Runs large

First off, I own several Assos shorts (2) and bibshorts (5), and they are mostly Mediums (maybe one large). I'm 5'10", 144lbs. The Mediums in this short fit okay in the torso, but the legs are too long, which puts the elastic cuff below the quads, which makes the elastic loose and wrinkly...hanging there like the cuffs of short pants. I actually ordered a second Medium thinking it might've been a defect (it wasn't). The Small fit perfectly - though I wouldn't want to go any tighter through the torso - but the chamois fit in the Small is perfect.

No space for the man parts.

  • Size Bought: Large

Spoke to an Assos rep and provided him my measurements. Recommended the large. The legs and waist fit great. Great material. But zero space for the soldiers. Wore them for one 30 mile ride and I was ready to tear them off after 1 mile.

Your comment makes sense about not having space for the soldiers. The far right hand pick (the one with the shorts turned inside out) sure looks like it is made for lady parts.

It's recommended that you adjust your "soldiers" forward and away from your thighs...a good way to avoid chafing as well.

Solid shorts, true to size

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

Used during two rides plus the whiskey 50 last month.

Not a great fit...disappointed !

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

I read the reviews too before buying...and I always wear a medium short, and I thought a small would just be too small.
But I figured this is Assos, and the guys saying they run large, are probably all skinny race guys....well...they were exactly right !!
This short runs way too large....the leg cuff is loose as hell ! Waist band is loose too. I really wanted these short to work for me...and I am very disappointed !

Definitely runs large.

  • Fit: Runs large

I'm 6'0, 155lb, 31-32 inch waist, and ordered the medium but they're too big, not enough compression in the waist and lower thigh in particular.

Replaced with small and would be perfect if the front rise was higher and had a drawstring to secure it from sliding down. I had to return.

Love these shorts

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: large

Have used many shorts and switch to Assos 12 years ago. Purchased these over a year ago and find them more comfortable than previous versions. Overall, have found my Assos shorts have held up well replacing only after the backs become too see through (adding still good)

I’m Hard to Fit

  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Medium

Bibs don’t seem to work for me. Straps are usually too short. Shorts are the only other option, but these require frequent adjustments. They slowly work their way down a bit. Otherwise, good quality and comfy chamois.

What took them so long?

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Medium

Assos has been my favorite brand of shorts for years now. That being said I have always wondered why they only made bibs. Bibs are great for decent rides but longer rides and the call of nature....well lets just say it requires almost complete.... These shorts are the best, definitely run a size larger but otherwise they are comfortable for long or short rides.

Light, Comfy, a bit large?

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Medium

I ordered MEDIUM and they are just a wee bit large. Not a problem, but if I order more, I might go down to a small just for grins and giggles.

These are outrageously lightweight feeling. Don't know the actual weight, but they "feel" fantastic. Chamois is quite nice and if these hold up as well as my other Assos stuff, these will likely make it through the bulk of the calendar year. These are primarily for riding on the trainer and rollers, as they're shorts instead of bibs, and are replacing my Louis Garneau CB Carbon 2 Shorts which I simply couldn't tolerate any longer. I ride about 7-10 hours/week on the rollers, and need something that can survive a huge amount of sweat and daily washings (with WIN detergent, of course). The Garneau fabric was weird, and over time, the chamois caused problems "in front". Let's just leave it there...

These Assos shorts will be tested pretty heavily in the next 10 days; I'll use them for the Tour of Sufferlandria which puts me on the bike for nine days and about 1110 TSS.

Assos Milleshorts

  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: Medium

These are the most comfortable cycling shorts I have ever worn. Great fit. I can sit in the saddle much longer when I'm wearing these shorts compared to Castelli shorts.

I have a size 38 inch waist. What size mens ASSOS H.MILLESHORTS_S7 SHORTS should I order? Is is unclear in the sizing chart.

I'm w36 and the size L fits me perfect. So for w38, I'd say the "XL." Or check with a customer service rep.

Assos Riding Shorts

  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Large

Very comfortable riding shorts. I had previously bought a pair of riding shorts at Trek that I had to return because of extreme discomfort. These Assos riding shorts have proven to be very comfortable. I have even purchased a second pair of Assos bib shorts.

Assos liners

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large
  • Size Bought: Med

These are the best in the business. No close seconds. Add the correct 'butter' of choice and go all day. My others, insert any brand here, all ran out of comfort at 3-4 hours no matter how much lube was used. If I have used up my liners and have a different model I do shorter rides...
