Why We Like The Cento EVO Bib Short

The Cento EVO Bib Short from Assos is the evolution of its iconic Cento, updated with new features and details that further its long-distance-comfort credentials. It's refined fit, materials, and updated insert solidifies this short as a staple from the stalwart short brand.

Type.439 textile returns for the main panels and is a favorite thanks to its incredible skin comfort. This durable material possesses two different rates of four-way stretch for maximum elasticity and a nice compressive hold and supportive wrap for hard-working muscles. It's also proven to have exceptional breathability, and it rapidly transfers moisture to its quick-drying outer surface. As with the original Cento, the fit is a touch more generous around the lower abdominals than the racingFit options, and Assos adds its new raw-cut, tape reinforced zeroWaist ensuring a smooth transition between body and fabric for less pressure and a comfortable hold.

Leg openings receive Assos' Ultralight Leg Grippers featuring light silicon treatment woven into the leg bands, helping reduce bulk and secures the hem in place without any excessive pressure. The bib back panel is constructed using the comfortable Y7 Frame Carrier design for a wide, flat, flexible, and stable structure that simply disappears between the shoulder blades for a smooth, supportive hold. Furthermore, a dorsal stabilizer in its Stabilizator mesh provides limited vertical stretch that increases support during those long hours in the saddle reaching for the hoods and drops.

The new black colorway Cento EVO elastic insert uses 10mm of plush memory foam and the kukuPenthouse for comfort and support on every ride. kukuPenthouse is a soft, brushed microfiber layer at the front part of the insert that supports the male anatomy and eliminates pressure while improving ventilation. Its patented 3D waffle design uses three-layer perforated foam that increases breathability while dropping excessive grams. Finally, the returning goldenGate technology is always welcome to see and features interrupted stitching along the insert’s side panels, allowing for three-dimensional freedom of movement in a sensitive, high rotational area.

Wore out prematurely

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Bibs are super comfortable but unfortunately a hole wore through on the inner thigh after about 1k miles. I guess it's just from rubbing on my saddle? I've never crashed in these nor had this type of issue with any of the many pairs of shorts I've owned over the years. Luckily I have a sewing machine and can fix them but pretty disappointed overall.

Not a typical fit from Assos

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This is my second pair of Assos bibs. First pair was the T.equipe_s7 Bib Shorts. They are by far still my favorite bibs. I ordered this pair hoping for a similar fit. Unfortunately, they are no where near as comfortable as the T.equipe. These do not have the generous pocket up front so I just can’t get comfortable on the saddle. Constant adjustments. I questioned whether or not these were for women. Not what I hoped for from Assos at their price point. Too bad I did not return them:(

My new 'Gold' standard for bibs

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I decided to splurge and buy an expensive pair of bibs. Wow. Comparing them to my previous shorts and bibs, I will never go back. I've gone back to my previous bibs for a comparison, and I am amazed at the difference.: fabric, straps, durability, comfort, chamois. After three months of 10+hrs/week of wearing them on the saddle, I decided I need a second pair for alternating on back-to-back rides. Worth it. I did order the Medium initially based upon their sizing chart. For me they were just too tight. So I returned them for a Large and that was the right size for me. Snug, skin tight, but not too tight.

Best pair of chamois I?ve ever owned

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Definitely the most expensive out of any chamois I?ve owned, but also the most comfortable. It?s on a whole new level? you get what you pay for.

Comfortable

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Comfortable for longer rides (3+ hours), especially on the contact area. Sizing felt a little small at first--seemed a little tight and leg length a little short but while wearing them getting ready for the ride I realize they don't constrain nor bind anywhere and definitely not tight up front. Also, I have a long torso; straps are fine. They're not the tightest nor the stretchiest but I don't notice them, which is what matters. Fabric feels durable, isn't slick and doesn't stick to the saddle. Bib back panel is a bit high but the upper fabric breathes well even with a base layer. I really like the chamois, which has two separate foam pads and a small gap in the middle, so there's no perineal pressure. On my vintage saddle without a center channel, this separation makes a difference. The 10mm foam is thick and medium density. At first it seems a bit much but after a couple hours I am not even thinking about it, which is the way it should be. I read the reviews about the chamois bunching up or shifting but I didn't experience that. These Assos bibs are pricey but they're the best I've worn for long rides. Overall, I'm pleased.

Assos and bib short believer

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I waited 20 years before I tried my first bib short for cycling...don't make the same mistake I did. The fit and feel of these shorts was beyond any of my predictions. And the pad is amazing. I am not sure why a bib-short feels so good, but I guess that it greatly minimizes micro-movements of the short against your skin when you are cycling. The pad promotes evaporation so when you take a break in a cafe during a long ride, it evaporates your sweat and does not feel like a wet diaper. I will never wear a bike short again. And the Assos brand delivers superior performance.

Take care of your boys.

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

These are by far the best investment I?ve ever made in riding apparel. I?ve ridden Dakine, Patagonia, as well as specialized for years and they have nothing on these bad boys. I bought them specifically for a week long bike packing trip across Washington state. I didn?t even have time to break them in, yet after 5 days in the saddle of averaging more than 90 miles and 7k feet of climbing my nether regions showed no signs of wear. Chamois butter wasn?t even necessary. I cannot speak to their longevity yet as I?ve only been riding them for a couple weeks but I can tell you I won?t spend money on any other bibs at this point. I?m 5?11? with a 30? waist and the fit is spot on.

Wasn?t blown away

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I have been wearing the giordana FRC pro bibs for years. Thought I would give these a try to see if grass is greener on the other side. In short, it?s not. Here?s the breakdown: Straps- awesome, couldn?t be better Length- too short. But I am tall, so it is what it is. Short fabric- great material. Compression- needs more in the mid leg, there isn?t enough compression on the last third of the short, so they have a tendency to ride up during explosive efforts. Shammy- I get more hot spots with this model compared to the frc?s, but didn?t feel as special as I expected for the price. All that said, Giordana FRC pro shorts still are my number 1 choice for all conditions.
