Assos says these are SPF15
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
- Fit: True to size
- Size Bought: 0
I love these for the comfort, but they are not like the protectors which have SPF 50+. I emailed Assos directly and they said these had an SPF rating of 15, so wear sunscreen.
Size-wise, I am utterly scrawny (like a guy who doesn't do any exercise other than cycling), and I wear an XS in jerseys (5'8" 145lbs, with a 5'8" wingspan). I purchased these in a size 0 and they fit perfectly.
Initial Impression: Very Good
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
- Fit: True to size
Context: Pensacola FL (high temp & humidity moderated by Gulf breezes).
Comparing to: Castelli & Bontrager, used previously. Plain-looking, typical smooth wicking material, like a Nike T-Shirt.
The Assos sleeves are a beautiful super-super-stretchy mesh with longitudinal aesthetic ribs. Very high-end-looking. They look small at first glance, but wow, do they ever stretch and cover; absolutely no gathers anywhere, and I have slim arms. The bands at both ends apply perfect pressure.
Although made of polypropylene & nylon, they look and feel like a very fine-thread cotton (flat with no sheen, and cotton-cozy) and they don't feel like they wick quite as well as "typical wicking fabrics". The moment I slipped them on I felt the unmistakable slight "itch" of something a little too warm. I don't get that feeling when I throw on a Nike T-Shirt. So I'd give them an A+ on everything but the wicking. The wicking is OK, but still only a first impression. After laundering a few times, that could improve.
