Description

Make pumping a pleasure.

Most people wouldn't think of a standard bike pump as beautiful, instead describing it as more of a functional, utility-driven tool. Well, the discerning cyclists at Arundel would beg to disagree with the advent of the Floor Pump 1, which is beautifully crafted with a genuine wood handle, anodized base for durability, and fully serviceable internals to keep it running as long as possible. Its large, easy to read analog gauge gives you both PSI and Bar readings at a moment's glance, so you can quickly and efficiently achieve your desired tire pressure. Additionally, the thumb-lock style head securely attaches to Presta valves for quick inflation of your tires without air escaping.

Underwhelmed

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Perhaps I was spoiled from owning a Specialized pump that I loved for years before it died on me, but the Pump 1 fell short with me for a few reasons. I didn't like how I had to struggle and apply so much force just to get it on and off my presta valves. I didn't like how it always lost several psi everytime I released the latch. I didn't like how I many strokes it took (more than I'm used to) to get to my target psi.
Bottom line, I had high hopes for this pump, but especially at this price(!) it falls way short.

Great pump

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I purchased this after a lot of debate over the Silca lineup. I'm happy I made the choice. The pump is solid and works flawlessly at a much friendlier price point. It has the design, fit & finish of a high end pump. Pump head has a very substantial & positive locking feel. I've had the pump about a month and have used it daily so I'm not sure of the long term durability.

The ultimate bike pump

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I spent years suffering with my Silca. Replaced all of the guts, gaskets, etc. Adjusted the pump head. Sure it lasted "forever", but it was a PITA to use. After that, the Arundel is like a revelation. The chuck is super easy to use and always stays secure on the value. Giant pressure gauge is easy to read. Nice wooden handle. Well worth the $$ spent on it.

Update: after about a year of use, it seems the rubber washer in the pump head needs to be replaced. Would have expected longer life out of it.

Worthy of the Best

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I spend a lot of time considering all the gear I use for riding. It isn't because I'm fast, but I want to maximize my enjoyment of the limited time I have for riding. The Arundel Floor Pump 1 has increased my enjoyment of my pre-ride ritual. The details are refined and well-thought-out, and the materials are top-quality. I've been using the pump for several months on several different bikes, and unlike some pumps I have owned previously, it is always a pleasure to use.

No pressure Mike, but it's based in part to your flattering review that I laid down my money for one of these pumps. I'm confident I'll love it.
