Description

Hydration and then some.

Trails in the backcountry are rarely smooth and level, which is why Arc'teryx created its new  Chilcotin 12 Hydration Pack, a unique pack that focuses on hugging your body and keeping you balanced and mobile on uneven terrain.  While the unique waist-belt holds the pack in place and keeps the load stable, the Spacermesh HD shoulder straps cushion the drag on your shoulders to prevent soreness after hours of hiking. The shoulder straps and back panel also utilize an Aeroform mono-filament mesh to promote air flow throughout the contact patches. In addition to the main compartment, the Chilcotin also sports an inner security pocket, for your wallet or keys, and two Wingman pockets on the waist-belt, easily accessed without removing the entire pack.

Compact and accessible, this pack features a two-liter, BPA-free Widepac closure Source reservoir, easy to clean and antimicrobial. When not in use, the locking bite valve can be mounted on the shoulder strap to keep it in easy reach. A reservoir this size should provide enough fluids for about two hours of intense aerobic activity in hot weather. If you are one who enjoys a good nocturnal excursion, then you'll appreciate the highly-visible reflective tabs, an upgrade in safety and confidence.

Important! Do not select the frame size based upon the pack volume.
Packs are sized in Regular (R) and Tall (T). Sizing refers to your back length.
Back Length:
To determine your size, measure down the spinal column from the 7th cervical vertebra to the level of the hip iliac crest.
Hip Circumference:
Hip belt sizing is based on a measurement around the hip iliac crest. Measure around the body at the top edge of the hip iliac crest, approximately 2” below the point at which you would measure your waist.
Chest Circumference:
Shoulder strap sizing refers to bust/chest circumference. Measure around the bust/chest at the fullest point.

Chilcotin 12 Advertises Mesh back panel

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This is intended for day hikes only. Love the side pockets, for my 10 essentials in one and snack/phone/GoPro in the other. Here is what I have issue with. They have inserted a thick piece of plastic for rigidity with a sewn in cross bar this extends to all four corners of the pack. It provides form, but within 5 minutes my back was sweaty. Thinking of cutting holes leaving minimal vertical and cross frame support. Or just removing it. Carrying a hydration bag does not warrant a wet back during a day hike.
